Solo tourist hopefully going to Disney and other places around Orlando? What should I plan?

I've never been to Disney World, and I want to explore it at least once so I decided to go for a week.

I was thinking December 23 to December 30. I might add a extra day( so the 31st). However, I'm also thinking about going Dec 18 and staying until Dec 26 instead. I was going to start booking between November 1 though the 8th.

What package should I look at? I want the cheapest package for one person. Hopefully one that includes a hotel/motel. I want to go to Sea world at least once while I'm there as well.

Also I'm willing to not get a package, and just pay for one day sometimes doing the week. As long as I get to experience Disney and Sea world once.

If I have to wing it and just pay as I go which of the four resorts should I try to see?

Also how are your B&B's or Air B&B's. If all the hotels/motels are booked when I start looking in November then I might have to stay in them.

However, I do realize I'm leaving during a holiday season so I might not get to see Disney at all. If that becomes the case I still won't see the vacation as a bust since I always wanted to experience Florida to.

What tourist things should I check out in Orlando? Food? Sweets( I have a huge sweet tooth)? I would like to go water skiing, and to the beach at least once as well? What would be good places to do those?

I had planned a trip for September 2019 that was cancelled for $1000.00 per person for 2 for a week.

-3 Day Disney
-1 Day Sea World
- Penguin Behind the Scenes Tour
- Icon 360(Orlando Eye, Madame Tussauds)
- Capone's Dinner Show
- 3 Star Rosen Inn Pointe Orlando Hotel on International Drive or Clarion Inn in Lake Buena Vista Area(closest to Disney)
- Avis Rental Car
- Amtrak from Martinsburg, WVA to Kissimmee,FL

You will get more bang for your buck if you stay off property! Why stay in a Disney resort room when you will be in the parks during the day!? The Disney hotels are only nice if you plan a day to enjoy the theming! Save $$$$, stay off property=More $$$$ for souvenirs!

Late December is the busiest time of the entire year and the parks will be absolutely swamped and prices are much higher than a few weeks earlier or later, I definitely do not recommend going those weeks unless you have no other choice. Also SeaWorld is fine though I’d recommend a visit to the Universal Orlando parks instead, or both Sea World and Universal if you’re budget can stretch as they are much better but again if it’s because you’re in to sea creatures then fine though I do find SeaWorld rather lacklustre personally. If you want cheap then stay off site definitely though staying at Disney Value resort is convenient for the free Disney transport and you know you’re going to get good quality service with Disney whereas off site outside of big hotel chains you’re not really sure what you’re going to get. Outside the parks you have NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, International Drive and Orlando itself to explore. Beach wise you have Miami, St Petersburg, Daytona etc at your disposal.

Fantasy08...here's what I found for Dec 18-26:
December 18 Travel Day(Check In-depending on how you get there)
December 19 Check In, Explore(3 Star Hotel on International Drive- Rosen Inn Point Orlando)
Decemember 20-25(4 Day Disney, Sea World W/ Dining, Capone's Dinner Show)
December 26 Check Out, Travel Day
**Alamo Rental Car is included
****NOT INCLUDED is the way you get to Florida, so the cost will be more than...COSTS: $1628.70+Travel to/from Florida!

Are you sure you want to go to WDW during those dates? They will be SUPER BUSY! I would suggest going NO LATER than the first week of December 1-8...this way you will still get the benefit of seeing the parks decorated for Christmas...which is amazing! and it won't be as busy as Christmas week! The prices will probably be around the same, just not as busy! For your first time, I want you to go at the best time possible! First week of December is the lowest crowds, then the second week the crowds jump to the highest until after the New Year! Let me know how I can help!

SUGGESTION: Dec 1-8...using 1 & 8 as your travel days and Dec 2-7 as Park Days. If you go this week the total costs drop to 1247.39+your travel costs.

For you I would suggest talking to a travel agent.

There is so much that you do not know and extremely limited time for you to find out.

First you are planning on the most crowded time of the year.

Prices will be HIGH.

Options for hotels will be LOW.

Most people book a Christmas/New Years time trip in June....

Do not buy 1 day tickets to Disney if you want to go for more than 1 day because you'll be spending way more than you need to.

I'd recommend a 4 day base ticket which will allow you to enter each of the 4 Disney theme parks for one day.

If you want to go to Sea World then I'd just buy a 1 day ticket for that.

Will you have a car?

You may not want to go water skiing in late December. (I've been in the ocean in late November but it is chilly).

Yensid, it still won't let me reply to your private message so I'll post it here.

If you truly want to help me with research thank you so much. ☺

I unfortunately do not have social media(Facebook,Twitter, Tumblr,Instagram). I'm one of these rare young people that never cared for it. We'll have to communicate though here if that's okay.

Here are the answers to your post.

Where do you live?

Baton Rouge, LA

Are your dates FELIXIBLE at all? Maybe hold off until January or Go BEFORE December 16?
Nope, unfortunately no flexibility. My job is new so I don't have much vacation time saved up. I can only go at the times I stated because everyone else is off to.

Times I'm looking at so I want be in to much of the Christmas rush.

Sat Dec 21 to Sat Dec 28= 7 day trip.
Plane out of New Orleans is $178. No stops. Round trip.

Sat Dec 21 to Sun Dec 29=8 Day Trip.$178.
I put this one because if I do the Dec 21 to Dec 28 it would really be a six day trip because I wouldn't arrive in Orlando until after 8pm. Therefore half the day would already be gone. If I'm spending all this money, I really don't have, to do this mini dream of mine I want a FULL seven days.

Tue Dec 24 to Mon Dec 30. 6 Day Trip, but for some reason it's cheaper at $133.
I unfortunately would be leaving on Christmas Eve. I've never been in an airport during it. Don't know what to expect. Probably chaos. Not to mention I'll be driving from Baton Rouge to New Orleans on Christmas Eve to. Wonder what that's going to be like.

Tue Dec 24 to Tue Dec 31=$158. 7 Day Trip

Tue Dec 24 to Wed Jan 1=$130. 8 Day Trip.

The cheaper plane rides and dates would be what I would want to do,but I don't know about leaving on Christmas Eve of all days. The first one, and the highest, at least would have me in Orlando three days before Christmas Eve which is good. However,it's also the most expensive flight, and I haven't even added hotels,Disney, and Sea world tickets plus water skiing etc. Le sigh....

Do you want to go to all 4 Parks(Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios)Are you interested in Star Wars, Toy Story, Rockin Roller Coaster or Tower of Terror?

Not really to these. Although If I had to choose I guess Star Wars. Don't know what tower of terror is,but it sounds frightening so yay? What is Epcot? Also I was told that if I must go during Christmas I should try to see the Candlelight Processional at Epcot while there. What would Hollywood Studio's entail? I have an idea, but give me a mental picture. Personally if Magic Kingdom is the one that is the Disney logo when you watch a Disney movie than that's the one I had my eye on. It's probably really pretty during Christmas to.

However, I would LOVE to go to all four parks, but if its not feasible because of the bad time I'm going which one shouldn't I miss out on? If I can wing all four what tickets should I get that would let me do that even for a day,and what is Fast Pass? Sounds like I'll be able to get though the lines quicker? Which if that's the case I will pay the extra money to do that. Also If I can only go to two parks which tickets should I get?

Do you want to see Animals?
YES! YES ! YES! But I'm really interested in the ones at Seaworld not Disney.

I want to see the killer whales in a show. I want to pet and feed the dolphins. Also which ever park will let me swim with them I want to do that to.

Also I have zero interest in rides. I had horrible experiences with them(motion sickness), and said never again. The only ride that seems nice to do to me is the Flamingo Paddle Boat. On the bright side not doing anything but one ride will save money for the two things I really want to see at Seaworld. The killer whales and dolphins.

Is it better if I get tickets individually or buy passes?

Basically which is cheaper if I can only go for a day or two each for Seaworld and Disney? Also should I wait till late November to get tickets since maybe they will have deals going on since Christmas is so close?

Do you want to eat/drink from 11 countries from around the World?

Wouldn't mind it, however I've already told myself that if push comes to shove food related adventuring is out if it will save money on Disney tickets and Seaworld. So don't worry about dining in your research. I'll eat at McDonald's if I have to. I can eat anywhere, but seeing Disney World and Seaworld is probably going to be a one in a life time thing for me. If I have to sacrifice Florida's dining experience to do that then so be it.

I've been looking at some hotels to. There's one called Maingate Lakeside Resort that seems budget friendly for a seven or eight day stay. Apparently it's also in walking distance to Disney World to, and so is another one called Ramada by Wyndham Kissimmee Gateway. It seems pretty budget conscious as well. I also went to the Air B and B's site. There was one for 16 dollars a day, and also very close to Disney World!

I really want to get a place to stay out of the way as soon as possible. Hopefully before this week is out or at least before this month is. To me that's the biggest hurdle, and especially since people are booking like crazy because Christmas. Once I have a place to stay done I can do everything else on the fly if I have to. A place to stay for a seven or eight days is pinnacle when you're vacationing. Without that I might as well stay home.

For water skiing someone told me about this place.

Orlando Watersports Complex.

I went to their site. The prices seem fair for one day. This person mentioned kayaking to at a place called King's Landing and Weeki Wachi at Crystal River. with calm, clear water. That seems like fun. I wouldn't mind doing that to if I have the time.

For beaches they mentioned Daytona Beach, New Symryna Beach, Cocoa Beach and Melbourne Beach. Which one should I go to if I just want to see a real ocean up close, and swim a bit maybe?

In summary my main goals for Florida is Disney(main thing) and Seaworld. Everything else is back burner to those two things. If It can be done something like this would be a nice plan. The first two days Disney. The second two days Seaworld. The last three water skiing, beach, kayaking. Also I don't mind getting up early for example at 4:30 a.m. or 5:00 a.m.to be in line for Disney if I have to.

Oh, I'm getting around by walking, Uber,Lyft, or the the bus. There's no way I'm driving in a unfamiliar city, and during Christmas week at that. Plus that's more money saved on not having to purchase a Enterprise car for seven or eight days.

Also since It's Florida do I dress for summer or do you all get cold weather like the rest of the country lol. I hope it's the former since I want to go to the beach.

Thank you again.

How are you getting to Orlando?

You're trying to set up an entire vacation around Christmas time about 60 days out having done absolutely zero research to the point that you don't even know what park is what etc.
Its easy to go to Orlando on a whim after you've been but not when you haven't really lifted your pinky finger to research. You should be googling your many questions or go to a travel agent.
At least explore the Disney World website and the Seaworld website...

I'll give you my few suggestions anyways and hope that it helps.
-DRIVE
-stay offsite. look into Davenport area motels. I've stayed in 3 of them and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for cheap motel options.
-stick to just going to Magic Kingdom since that's what you think of when you think of Disney and you don't seem terribly interested in the other Disney parks except maybe you would if you researched them.
-I believe there is no Shamu show at Seaworld anymore so if that's your reason for goi8ng. Don't.
-I like Daytona Beach so I'd recommend it. Like I said before late December is not really the greatest time for swimming and water skiing. The water can be cold.
-Weather can be iffy. You're gonna want to bring shorts/pants/t-shirts/coat.

WOW! You gave me a lot of great info! I did some research...
DATES: December 21-30(this will mean that 21 & 30 are travel days, 22-29 Park Days...8 Park Days!!)
TRAVEL: Southwest from New Orleans to Orlando airports ($251.96)
HOTEL: The Grand Orlando Resort @ Celebration ($698.80) 1 adult, 9 days
TICKET OPTIONS:
1 Day Disney ($151.00)
2 Day Disney Base(1 park each day) ($304.73) NO PARK HOPPER
2 Day Disney Park Hopper(hop between all parks for 2 days) ($380.77)
3 Day Disney Base(1 park per day for 3 days) ($415.90)
2 Day Sea World ($107.00) NO DOLPHIN SWIM
1 Day Discovery Cove(dolphin swim+ sea world) ($220.70) Admission to Sea World for 14 days

FASTPASS= A FastPass will give guests a scheduled time slot/frame to come back and enjoy a particular attraction, therefore being able to enjoy the rest of the park/attraction until that time slot. Its kind of like a reservation.

I checked out Orlandowatersports.com and water skiing is $80

If you are dead set on going to the beach, that will be an expensive Uber/Lyft, but I would suggest going to Cocoa Beach/Port Canaveral=only an hour away! Route 50 all the way to the beach from Orlando. I WOULD SUGGEST RENTING THE SMALLEST CAR, AND PRINT OUT DIRECTIONS FROM HOTEL TO WHEREVER YOU ARE GOING. (what helps me is doing the directions and then go on BING MAPS and look at landmarks and road using the AREIAL CAMERA.)

°O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O° °O°
I would suggest locking down your flight and hotel and rental car(?) AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! as the holidays get closer, its going to get harder to find 'any room at the inn'!! ;) ALSO, I would watch youtube videos of each park to see what you like!
Tower of Terror is a DARK RIDE based in the TWILIGHT ZONE...you 'ride an elevator through the hotel and then you DROP in the elevator shaft...look it up on youtube!

Any oher questions, ask away....others will chime in too so wou will have bookoos of info

--Will

P.S> I would echo Queens suggestion of DRIVING! This way you would have a car...either your personal car or a rental!

Agree I like giving first timers prices and suggestions but it is tough when that person has done zero research of their own and knows nothing about where they want to vacation.
I mean if I were wanting to go to say Las Vegas or Boston, or NYC, or London etc I'd start googling the basics of what attractions there are and prices and cost of flights etc.
So I do think you're doing more than most for OP.

Southwest? Where did you see that? I used google maps, and the only plane that was in my budget was Spirit at $256 or $281. Those are grand totals with one carry on bag.

I'm definitely not paying almost $700 for a hotel lol. I guess air B&B's it is then.

Yea, I saw the 1 day, and the park hopper option. Does the 2 day base mean I can see all four parks as long as it's within those two days? Or can I only do that with the park hopper? The park hopper option seems like I will be in a rush to squeeze all four in. I want to get to fully enjoy them. So if the base only lets me see one full park per day,,but not all four then I guess I will have to choose. Magic Kingdom and one more. I read about fast pass. I'm definitely getting that. I wish they didn't open at 9.00. That seems a little late for a popular tourist spot, but no matter I plan to be in line by 6:00 anyway.

In my research I also found a site called Undercover Tourist, and they also seem to have some nice deals on there.

Yea, their website was very informative, and that $80 price tag was music to my ears. I know it's probably going be a little cold, but water skiing is a bucket list kinda thing for me. Just like going to Disney and Seaworld. So if I don't do it in Florida I'm probably never going to. So ice water or not I'm still going to have a smile on my face regardless.🥶😊

Yea.I know.😩 That's what I'm most worried about. A place to stay. That's why before Oct is out, No before this week is out, my seven or eight day place to lay my head down will be booked so help me god lol. Once that monkey is off my back I can breath a little easier about everything else.

Yes, youtube has been a great help in looking at all the parks and rides. Same for Seaworld. Tower of Terror is officially out though lol. Motion sickness does not feel good. That drop would have me trying to leap OFF the ride just to make my stomach be still. I bet you're wondering then how can I get on a plane? Well the trick is not to look out the window lol, and to watch a movie during decent so I can try to ignore the flip flopping my stomach is doing. 😵😰😱

A rented car is a no go. Everything is already to expensive now for me to be adding another $800 dollar price tag. Uber, Lyft and using the legs god gave me is fine with me and cheaper. 😅

Thanks again for your help.🤗

I'm definitely not paying almost $700 for a hotel lol. I guess air B&B's it is then. IF YOU JUST WANT A PLACE TO LAY YOUR HEAD AND SHOWER, USE UNDERCOVERTOURIST.COM AND BOOK THE CHEAPEST HOTEL...USUALLLY AROUND $40/NIGHT!

PARK BREAKDOWN- MAGIC KINGDOM-CLASSIC ATTRACTIONS; EPCOT-DISCOVERY; HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS-STAR WARS/TOYSTORY; ANIMAL KINGDOM-ANIMALS/ATTRACTIONS

i WOULD SUGGEST 2 DAY AT MAGIC KINGDOM, 1 DAY AT SECOND PARK, 1 DAY AT SEA WORLD/DISCOVERY COVE

In my research I also found a site called Undercover Tourist, and they also seem to have some nice deals on there.
UNDERCOVERTOURIST IS A GREAT PLACE FOR TICKETS,AND HOTELS--THEY HAVE THE CHEAPEST PRICES. ALSO FOR HOTEL TRY OTEL.COM OR AMOMA.COM I HAVE USED THEM IN THE PAST AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THEM

I did a search on expedia.com Dec 21-29 $2158.25...
-Spirit Flight
12/21-525pm-811pm; 12/29-700am-757am
-Hotel Howard Johnsons Tropical Palms Kissimmee
-Alamo Economy Car!!!!!!!!
-3 Day Disney(DAY 1=MAGIC KINGDOM; DAY 2=EPCOT EDIT:(WORLD SHOWCASE COUNTRIES=since you have NO INTEREST in rides, the countries would be a good replacement-if not interested in the 11 different countries and their food and souvenirs=STAY AWAY-2 Days at Magic Kingdom and 1 ay at Studios) Day 3=MAGIC KINGDOM OR HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS(STAR WARS/TOYSTORY) EDIT: I would stick to 2 DAY at Magic Kingdom=that way you will not be rushed and can experience it at a slower pace.
-1 Day Discovery Cove(Dolphin Swim+Unlimited admission to Sea World and Aquatica Waterpark during your vacation)
EDIT: Discovery Cove water is heated
So you have enough info to have a handle on this vacation and enough info to make the best decision for yourself. I would go to expedia.com and BOOK THIS RIGHT NOW-if you're serious about going to Disney on your dates!:banghead::facepalm:

KEEP IN MIND: YOU ARE GOING DURING THE MOST BUSIEST AND MOST EXPENSIVE TIME OF THE YEAR SO THAT'S WHY THE PRICES ARE SO HIGH! BUT THIS EXPEDIA SEARCH GIVES YOUR EVERTHING FOR $2158.25...THAT'S A GOOD DEAL AND WOULD BOOK IT RIGHT AWAY!
A despite the way you think you will be able to walk or take an uber/lyft...you just can't walk anywhere because most likely your hotel will be miles away from Disney, and uber/lyft will be expensive

We've helped you as much as we can, but its up to you to make the decision that is best for you! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PLANNING!

I booked an AirB&B. The hotels even for seven days were to expensive. Also I decided to stay for 10 days. This way I'll get to do all the things I planned. Especially since I've added another park I completely forget was also in Orlando. Universal lol.

My host's home is located on a street called Santa Barbara Road, Orlando, FL 32808. Her listing and google maps said its six miles from Universal and 15 miles from Disney. Its also apparently close by the Airport and Seaworld. All of them are 11 to 20 minutes. So would Lyft, Uber or the bus be good enough from this neighborhood or should I cancel and try somewhere else?

I'm leaving from New New Orleans airport wth Spirit on Sat Dec 21 5pm to 8pm. I will leave December 3. Ten Days.

I will book my Disney, Universal and Seaworld Tickets though that freaking beautiful site Undercover Tourist starting Nov 1-8.

The tickets I'm looking at are:

3 Day Disney Theme Park Base Ticket. My parks will be Kingdom,Epcot, Studios.
I was thinking bout adding Mickey's Very Merry Christmas and Magic Kingdom as well.

Universal 3 Day Base(3rd Park Free)
Parks will be Universal,Adventure Volcano Bay.

However, I want to ride the Hogwarts Express so I might go with the park to park option.

Seaworld
Discovery Cove Day Resort with Dolphin Swim. I get To go to Seaworld and Aquatica with this package to.

What do you think. Is this a good plan or should I change some things?

There's a cheaper AirBB in a place called Kissimmee and I get the whole apartment to myself. The host will never be there, and it's cheaper with discounts and everything. I'm seriously thinking about canceling and getting him. However, since Uber and Lyft will be my modes of transportation which is closer Kissimee or Santa Barbara Road, Orlando, FL 32808?

It sounds like the best plan for you. If it were me I would not stay in AIRBB*! How much are you paying for AIRBB on Santa Barbara Road for 10 days?

* These 'reservations' sound like Hostels to me... where you are sharing the room with others looking for a cheap place to stay and also you share the bathroom! NO WAY WOULD I PUT MYSELF IN THAT SITUATION!
