Soaring across America

I just experienced the worst representation of our country on the Soarin across America rise at Disney. I think it was done so poorly and I am shocked! People come from all over the world and this is the best Disney can do for its home. I’m unapologetically disgusted and sad.

I would have highlighted many more beautiful town and cities, more of our natural wonders, our Great Lakes, Niagara Falls, the Mississippi River, they didn’t even go over Cape Cod or Las Vegas, it was way shorter than the original Soarin around the world. Plus the sounds and smells were barely there. I’m not Disney but if I can think of these few things I’m sure the creative thinkers of Disney should have been able to produce a much better reflection of our beautiful country.

I was pleasantly surprised at how light it was on ugly cities, but then they just stuffed a bunch of them in in a row at the end. I'm not even sure what one of them was supposed to be, they didn't get a very good shot.

I havent seen this version personally but have watched the videos that have come out. It was odd that the intro was not updated for this and we were given the old Patrick rerun version. Other than the ride over the swamp land, I found the scenery enjoyable enough. There is only so much that Disney could have filmed in the span of time the attraction runs. There are a lot of spots in this country to choose from to fly over. I was hoping there would be more patriotic kind of things included since this was a nod to the 250th anniversary. Since it is a temporary run it wont be around forever.

Yup, like the Big Ugly Hat was just temporary. And the closing of 20K under the sea was just temporary. I don't really have an opinion on the show because I haven't seen it. I did see the new Old Patrick rerun, but if all he was going to say was the same thing, it really is just the run up to the show and a safety listing. Besides the new Patrick looked weird with his hair cut that short, probably better the old one.

I am honestly a bit shocked Niagara Falls didn't make the cut given waterfalls have played a part in Soarin', and it's the most famous in the country, and the oldest state park in the country.

If they are going to give us a new Soarin then it all should be new. The intro being old certainly detracts from the newness of the film especially when you are being show 2 different ages of Patrick. Maybe it was done as a money saving issue or time for Patrick and getting other actors involved to be available but if they are filming one shot they should film it all the same. It doesn’t look be good. It shows a laziness of Disney and a who cares attitude.
Disney is fully capable of “make up” and they could adjust Patricks look any way they want so his short haircut isn’t a problem for them to adjust.

I don't disagree with you about any of that. It was painfully obvious when the younger Patrick showed up. Almost jarring to those of us that had seen the original Patrick for so many years. I have no idea what happened that caused them to make the decision to keep the old footage and therein lies the problem. Why not reshot the safety section. It is so jarring that I have to think there was some reason for doing that, but unless they come forward and tell us we may never know. In the meantime, it isn't the end of the world. It might have been tried and they couldn't get the same vibe from the new ones or maybe Patrick was demanding more money to do the section again.

But Niagara Falls isn't really known as an all-American attraction, rather a shared destination with Canada.

Also, there's a new flying theater attraction at the falls, very similar to Soarin'... and it's exclusively soaring over Niagara Falls and surrounding areas.

I posted in another Soarin thread - I got to experience this a few days ago at DCA. I really liked it - way better than world and maybe as good as the original. But I’d have to ride it a few times to decide for sure.

My only complaint is they chose to feature the Branson Scenic Railway - it ideally should have been Amtrak or the Durango & Silverton!
