Soarin’ Across America to replace Soarin’ Around the World for Nation’s 250th Birthday

So not sure if this has already been mentioned…

Some patriotic decor is already on display near the entrance to ‘Soarin’.
Panels are attached to one of the Pavillion supports closest to the Attraction entrance, and there is also now a metal bar installed above these panels that looks like it will hold a vertical banner.

I was over there today and noticed this, but didn’t snap a pic.
Can do so tomorrow as I will be back over at Epcot.

Also…
When did they install the nice graphic art posters honoring scenes from ‘Soarin Over California’ and ‘Soarin Around The World’ in the queue?
They look nice and make the first area of the queue a bit more interesting than just the usual blank walls.

The art is pretty nice, too, made to look like travel posters for the various destinations one visits during both Attraction films.

Disney has shared a look at a few of the locations featured in Soarin' Across America:

We’re excited to share a first look at some of the locales featured in this new experience. From sea to shining sea, Soarin’ Across America brings breathtaking ‘seasons and regions’ to life.

Along your journey, you will glide above iconic urban and natural wonders, from the rugged New England coastline and the radiant welcome of New York Harbor to the vast expanse of Grand Canyon West.

The experience features so many quintessentially American settings… the autumn colors of the heartland; the beauty of our bayous; the great plains of the west; the northern wilderness; and sunlit island shores.

“Each scene helps to create a portrait of what we believe makes America so special,” said Tom Fitzgerald, creative director and chief storytelling executive, Walt Disney Imagineering. “It’s a tapestry of urban wonders, natural beauty, and iconic locations that celebrate the spirit of the nation and the 250th anniversary of the United States.”

Cast Member Previews Underway at Soarin' Across America at EPCOT

Cast member previews are now running at Soarin' Across America at EPCOT, ahead of the Annual Passholder preview dates of May 19 and 20 and a general public opening on May 26. The ride's entrance column inside the Land Pavilion has already been dressed in red, white, and blue theming, replacing the look from Soarin' Around the World, which closed May 13.

Now we need some CMs to tell us what they think and tell us how many curving sky scrapers to expect.

I totally didn't realize this was death of soarin' over the world.. I thought this was a temp 250th thing.

Here's praying they got ppl involved that understood why Soarin' actually worked! And if they can do CM previews so quickly, why bother with the prolonged shutdown? I know they have the 26th as a opening date for basically everything.. but seems Disney should know how long this really should take and it's nadda?

I was thinking that too. My only thought is maybe 1 or 2 of the theaters needed some extra work so they are using the time to work with limited capacity needs?

Otherwise I agree… it doesn’t make sense to be closed when it’s a day to day change

All three screens were running last week alternating but always using 1 or 2 at a time, they often run on two so screen maintenance is unlikey the reason as they can do that almost whenever they want already.

Saw a fair few confused people in the land this morning though not realising it was closed. No signage outside the land to tell people either which probably makes CMs lives harder, there was an army of them lined up outside soarin fielding questions from people.

Where are you seeing that? Everything I’ve seen indicates it’s temporary.
They will determine what to show based upon guest reviews. The ability to show a different movie during select intervals (eg a festival) is appealing. We will see that happen rather than different films on different screens.

AFAIK this is initially a 1-year run, subject to extension. I suspect it will last longer. It’s not cheap to make a new film.

I guess I'm out of the loop these days, but when in hell was Soarin' unpopular. It started out as two theaters and is at three now because it was so popular and even then there was a wait time in the queue. I saw the bend in the Eiffel Tower but I still enjoyed the ride and the scenery. I like the first one a little bit better, but don't we always have an internal need to not see anything change.

It is the ride and the set up that is fun, what we are looking at, although important (we wouldn't want Soarin' over landfills), but California and The World were both fun. I understand that depending on the direction we are looking at it from determines how a 2D is seen. Not a big deal, I always knew from the beginning that I wasn't really flying and that what I was looking at was a 2D film on a rounded screen and in spite that it was one of my favorites. I've used more Fastpasses on that then any other attraction, close second would be Spaceship Earth.

Just based on @wdwmagic 's wording in the article about last ride...

if I'm wrong, ok. It just doesn't seem clear from Disney at all.

The subject matter makes way more sense for DLR and FW I think.. and if they internally see the flaws in over the world.. this is a great way to bury your mistakes.

Original Soarin' had its own photographical flaws, too: Camera not always pointing in the direction of the camera (dizzying... which Around the World also does). Sudden fast forward. Graininess from the film technology at the time.

Let's see if 250 can avoid the issues its previous two iterations had.

It's probably "Disney temporary", so... it will just continue past its initial run with a small post stating, "Due to overwhelming guest demand...".
