Smell of the water...

Florida water always has a smell. You can smell it on the dark rides too. Part of the magic :p

The discussion of the ride water smell comes up every so often. It's actually bromine that they use because it's easier on the skin and olfactory system. And when you're treating an enclosed area like Pirates that has both guests and employees in those areas all day, you have to consider the safety factor. It's a great smell because it does remind you of being at Disney. :)

I always thought that their water sort of had a charcoal sort of smell. Except on Pirates... that has a unique odor. We get wooden pallets in at my job and some of them have the same smell, which I love. Non-Disney fan co-workers say they smell like cat pee though.

Actually, you are noticing one of the major (yes, there are multiple) problems with the new design of Disney Springs.

There is now a part of the lake that is 'trapped' largely by the new walkways/bridges and you are smelling dead/decaying plant matter and stagnant water. The fountain in the center was placed there to help, but had to be replaced by another fountain. They are aware there is a problem. Whether it ever gets fixed or not is another matter. ''They're tourists, they expect it to smell in the swamps,'' after all.
