Given that it still seems quite easy to have Fun Spot Atlanta largely to one’s self on many days, I’m not sure Six Flags needs to get distracted in such a way.

Six Flags and Cedar Fair to Merge (Nov 2023)

Given that it still seems quite easy to have Fun Spot Atlanta largely to one’s self on many days, I’m not sure Six Flags needs to get distracted in such a way.
I have spent 10 nights at the Savannah Sunset Resort in 2024 and 2025. The resort was great. However, the Great Adventure park needs help, lots of it. First, there is no sit down table service restaurant and second there are No SHOWS in the park during the summer season. There is no, absolutely no reason Great Adventure is not the number 1 park in the company.
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE? This is not that hard to figure out. Starting at Route 537, a new hotel should be built between the Themepark and Water Park with a nice pool and associated amenities. Second, a good sit down table service restaurant needs to be built where the old lakefront grandstand was. Third, a new section of themepark needs to be built where the arena was and extend into Baboon Village. Fourth, a new gigacoster needs to be built in the Golden Village. Finally, Fifth live shows are needed in the empty theaters. The final and easy finish is to allow Glampers to use the hotel pool, restaurants and amenities with transportation.
If and only if Six Flags listens to those of us who have spent thousands of dollars at Great Adventure over the past 2 years will the company be successful. My wife and I have had the Diamond Elite Membership for years, spent over $10,000.00 combined in 2024 and 2025 at Great Adventure but other than the great service I have received from Liz and her staff at the Savannah Sunset Resort, I have been extremely disappointed with Six Flags. If it were not for the resort and Safari, I would not spend a penny more at Six Flags. The company needs customers who love shows, enjoys the safari and atmosphere themeparks can deliver and yes that means bring back Holiday in the Park in 2026 and the drive thru Holiday Experience Monday Through Thursday during the week, it was fun during Covid19.
Almost forgot, we have booked 3 more nights at the Savannah Sunset Resort in early 2026. I have been going to Great Adventure since it opened in 1974 and have loved it for over 50 years but it needs help.

I hope that park works out. Cause a lot of the parks over there struggle with attendance.
I grew up during the coaster wars and it's what got me into riding coasters across the country.
I wish we could go back to those days. Bigger, Taller, Faster is the best part of coasters.
Unfortunately with the change in the market and lack of competition due to most parks being owned by a few companies has ended the coaster wars.

Six Flags is in the process of buying out Six Flags Over Georgia but have recently decided to not exercise their option to buy out Six Flags Over Texas. Can’t help but wonder if it’s an expense they can’t afford at the moment.
But you gotta admit, Falcon's Flight at Qiddiya fired a pretty big shot, showing the coaster wars still live on.
Then you have Dollywood entering the wars on a different strategy, going for records with hybrid design, (part coaster, water, dark ride, flight) in 2026. Then there's the tallest dive coaster coming in Texas... just to name a few.
We live in good times still.

I thought the purchase of Georgia was an absolute disaster for them and that was a large part of why they didn't want Texas. Could be that part of the financial as well. Just crazy how that fall has gone.

As of now the purchase of Georgia looks bad. When it happened I thought it was a good idea. Cedar Fair always wanted parks in large metro areas and finally got the Atlanta, N.Y. and Texas markets. From everything that's been out there, IMO they didn't realize the shape of the Six Flags parks were in.
It was going to take a few years to get these parks up to Cedar Fair standards. They have started fixing up these parks with upgrades to infrastructure and food quality. The problem was people still stayed away.
IMO they are in a hard spot now. If I was them I cut my losses and close the majority of these parks. It's not worth the time and money to invest in park that people aren't visiting.

Pretty awful the people in charge will walk away with millions from that deal without even really knowing what they were getting then. I think every theme park fan in the country could tell you the approximate shape they were in, even without having been there.

IMO those on charge knew it would take awhile to improve these parks. I think they hoped with even little things to start would help. Like adding a Chaperone policy, improving food and the landscaping would help. Add in the cheap season passes with access to all parks. It did nothing to change anything.
I hope this new CEO continues with the plan they put out back in May. With more family attractions, entertainment, food events. Be less about big thrills and be more like the Dollywood.

Yeah I have hopes for him. They were on such a great path and just cratered. But the job is steep. The Cedar Fairs fanbase now thinks exactly what they said would happen did (Six Flags wasn't going to rise, it was going to drag Cedar Fair down to their level).

Looks like the SIX chain is about to get smaller, and a minor player in the industry is likely to pick up some parks I’m surprised Six Flags would be inclined to dump.

I'm not at all. Back in their last conference call they mentioned they wanted to sell off parks that were not profitable or not have growth potential
