Sidewalk to nowhere expansion??

What are the chances that the sidewalk that heads West outside the front gates of the Magic Kingdom (between Seven Seas Lagoon and the monorail platform) will ever be expanded and connect over at the Grand Floridian? With the new DVC going up, it makes me wonder if there are plans. The one obstacle I see is the little waterway that goes to the backstage area of the Magic Kingdom is where the Water Pagent barges come in and out. What are the chances of them making a drawbridge, smaller in size like the one used in Epcot near the China Pavilion for Illumination barges?

I would have to say that the chances are just above zero. In this day and age there has to be either a financial incentive or a logistical need before the folks at WDW build something. Unless sales of the new GF DVC expansion fall completely flat and the added perk of "walking distance to MK" would correct that, I just do not see them doing it. Quite honestly, I think about the only thing that might get that bridge built would be a new resort located between the GF and MK.

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!

I would have to say, do not hold your breath.....

If I understand correctly it was called "Walk around the world" I believe it's mentioned in the older Express monorail spiel and it only goes up to 3 1/2 miles around the Seven Seas Lagoon.

I was actually thinking about this when I rode the Express Monorail from MK to TTC and look down to see the pathway just end. It would be cool if you were able to walk from MK (well, even the Contemporary) to Grand Floridian and beyond. Probably not very likely though, unfortunately.

I'd love that too. We'd walk between the Poly and MK every day if it was possible.

Won't happen though. If the put a lift bridge in they'd have to have staff on both sides whenever they wanted to operate it, like the Epcot WS bridge. Probably not worth the cost.

And it isn't just the water pageant floats that they have to use the drawbridge for. That is also the channel they use to bring the Liberty Belle out and around to the dry dock. So even if they did eventually kill the water pageant they would still need a moveable bridge of some type, or a very high bridge which would be very expensive to make ADA compliant (not to mention the ramp tower on either side would look kind of ugly).

It's shame that they probably won't finish it because I think a full walking/running trail would be a big hit with guests like me who do early morning runs walks at home. You'll get a good view of the park and the SSL resorts at sunrise and not have to do that many laps to get a good run in,unlike most of Disney's current running trails.

Good info, I don't see how they could do it without a massive investment.

I would loooove a bridge there! I've always thought it will be a major perk for GF guests. And the Poly.
Especially after the fireworks. No crowds, no waiting for a boat or monorail, no hassle, just a ten minute pleasant stroll to you hotel.

In an ideal world, I'd have them build something like a quaint Dutch drawbridge:

There isn't enough room in dry dock for them to store Lightshow either. I do wish they would build a bridge and finish the pathway

We had a dinner reservation at the Grand Floridian last year and there was a long line for the boats. So we saw this beautiful walking path and we thought we'd just take a relaxing stroll over the the GF instead of the boat/monorail. Luckily, we hadn't made it too far when a cast member form the monorail station saw us. He came down the hill to stop us before we'd wasted too much time.

If they ever finally do away with the monorail, and walking to and from the MK resorts becomes something that becomes either popular or required, then they might just finish it.

They would probably spin it something like this....."In our continued effort to provide healthier lifestyle choices at our WDW MK theme park, we now offer a walkway around the entire Seven Seas Lagoon for your exercise enjoyment. WDW and Nike would like to encourage you to Walk a Mile in Mickeys Shoes......" or something like that.....
