Looks like JM's e-mailer about the story to the show is correct. From what I've been hearing about all these cool things like how it will change the 3D world, blah, blah, etc, I thought the show would include motion seats and a new theater. I guess not now...

That's why I said that this attraction should rise above its press material. All they did was slap a still over a generic theater to pop something in for those who clicked on Shrek 4D (I'm not surprised, cheap and easy is the Californian way of doing things).

None of it is really indicative of what the whole experience will turn out like, other than what you will see on the screen.

P.S. According to what has been conviently leaked out, the motion base seats in Shrek 4D are supposedly like every theater seat you have seen before. And no, that wasn't a slip of the finger. ;)

Soft opening...

Haven't been to IOA, but saw this in the Orlando Sentinal today...if you already know ...sorry.

March 24, 2003

Universal Orlando's new Shrek 4-D will open in June, according to the latest Passport newsletter to annual passholders of the Studios and Islands of Adventure parks.

Employees say a "soft" opening, in which the ride would be tested at certain hours, with guests welcome, could occur as soon as Memorial Day weekend at the end of May.

Work on the family ride has been in such high gear that some guests have complained because the block on Hollywood Boulevard where Shrek is under construction has been without party lights during the park's Mardi Gras parade celebration. Across the street on the darkened block is the work site for the Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast attraction, scheduled to open in April.

Looks like it could be very interesting. Kind of like Honey we shrunk the audiesnce or terminator. It will probably get many people going into it unless it just pops out characters like some other theme parks do. That would be bad.

Here are some photos of the new sneak preview display for Shrek 4D at Universal Studios Japan. Note that there are also photos of the new Sesame Street 4D show at USJ. This show is NOT, I repeat, is NOT coming to Florida unless hell freezes over.

Enjoy!

Shrek is taking over the now extinct Alfred Hitchcock attraction right across the street from Jimmy Neutron. Kinda odd though how the park will have two 4-D attractions in close proximity to each other in the same theme park. Hopefully the actual methods of presentation for both attractions will be different enough or else it'll look like Universal is copying itself in the same park. Not that Disney has ever done that before  (Dumbo, Astro Orbiter, Aladdin, etc.)
