Is it just me or is the 20% off a joke?

The room discounts are nice (if you're staying at a Value Resort) but considering the prices they charge for other rooms, it should be even more! The food is marked up so high as it is and we hardly get a discount on it let alone there are like 20 places (QSFB) in all of Disney we can use it at. The 20% off at QSR is only 2% since they include tip too.

After 3 years of continuous employment the merchandise discount goes up to 35%. I don't really think you're going to find much sympathy from the average WDW guest- they get 0% discount on merchandise most of the time.

I think 20% for the first 3 years is fair, and after that you get a pretty nice 35% discount. Also, your math is skewed with the dining discount...it is only a 2% discount if you normally never tip. Ex: If your meal is $100, then it would cost you $118 without a discount and standard 18% gratuity. With the discount that meal becomes $80 and with tip is now only $98. Legitimate 20% savings.

I would be all for a better discount if the cast members prove themselves, to be special cast member. Instead of raises, they get the option to get a better discount pro-rated to their amount of potential raise.

As a stock holder, I would applaude such a move.

IMHO,the only discount should be to our military. All other guests have to pay regular. Free entry to parks for CM's should be enough. Lets see, free admission and a paycheck from Disney, it is difficult for me to decide that that CM's need more. Especially in light of the fact that the rest of us have to slog through multiple years just to afford one visit.

Aren't CM room discounts in the 40%-50% range off of rack rate? You will never get any better than that.

Yes. Eh, to still pay $275.00 a night like my Aunt did last year at the beach club a night is still out of line. That isn't even the most expensive resort either!

True but I think most people coming to Disney save up and expect that. As a CM the wages are extremely low.

Do you get anything (ever) for being a stock holder?
Don't CM's get into all the parks for free?
Yes but what does this cost Disney.. nothing. It sounds great at first but after awhile it's no biggie IMO. Many CM's that I know don't even go to the parks.. lol
Yes. They also get a MainGate Pass (I think it's still called this) to get x-number of friends/family in during the year too

Correct.

What other discounts would you like to see Kobe!!

I will be working for Disney as part of the CP in the fall so I didn't want to get too wrapped up in this thread but I was just wondering what else you want.

With every other job I have worked the discounts are between 0 to 30 percent off. The first two jobs I worked were 10 percent off which were at Pet Co and Wal-Mart. It basically saved you a few dollars here and there and not much more. Starbucks gives us 30 percent as well as a free lb of coffee or tea and drinks while on clock. The 30 percent at Starbucks is kinda a joke unless you are buying gifts for family members.

To me what Disney gives out is pretty standard unless you think you deserve free meals while on the clock or something. I don't know what the cast cafe is like or what it costs down there so I can't speak much to that but I thought as long as you were eating in the cast area it is marked down much more than the 20 percent off of park food.

When I did the CP back in 2003-2004 we got 40% around the Christmas holidays on merchandise which was fab!

I'm a cast member myself so I'm well aware of our wages. I just personally feel that Disney are plenty generous with their discounts to us. Every cm gets a 40% merchandise discount from the end of December until mid Februrary. Some years they've even given a 50% discount over the holidays. That combined with our holiday meal vouchers, water park admission, mini golf discounts, 20% at most table service for lunch, theme park admission and main gate, as well as numerous discounts from operating participants does, in my opinion, help make up for our lower wage. So, no as it stands I don't feel that we should get any additional discounts.

We need to be thankful for what we do get now because based on the restrictions that are added to our meal discounts each year it wouldn't surprise me to see a number of our discounts phased out completely at some point.

Sounds like it was her choice.

Many others pay full price or receive much less of a discount.

Be thankful that you get a discount at all.

BTW, you get the same and even better discounts than travel agents do.

entitlement.. entitlement...

You get a perk and complain it's not good enough?

If you feel it's not good enough - pack a bag lunch and really save yourself money.

Only if you want massive layoffs. Every cent in CM discounts is payed for from public ticket, hotel, merchdise etc sales. Greatly increase your discounts and all those prices will increase. Eventualy to the point of decreased on site stays, park attendance and merchendise sales. Result layoffs. What you currently get is based on a fine line that keeps CM's employed, the need to keep the public coming to WDW and a realization by the company that non-tax benefits help make up for lower wages.

CM's get paid an acceptable wage, the employee discount is the icing on the cake, the job is the devils food.

I say NO. Don't want people working there just for the discount. They gotta work there because they want to work there. That's how you get good customer service. The small discount is just a nice perk.

As a former CM, I say no. 20% is pretty standard as far as employee discounts. Plus you get the CM store, can't remember what it's called now, the one in the MK backlot.

My son is on the College Program now. None of those in his apartment brought a TV with them - but they were able to purchase a used resort room tv for $15...
