Short and Sweet Trip to the World: September 18-21

This is my first pre-trip report/trip report so please bear with me. :D

Here’s a little bit about the trip participants:

Myself, Ashley (23) – Absolutely LOVE Disney! After a 7 year hiatus from WDW (obviously an unwanted hiatus) I have successfully been to WDW at least once a year. I like to go to the World with a plan, i.e. an itinerary, adrs, smart use of fastpasses, etc.

The BF, Wes (turning 23 on our trip) – Also really likes going to WDW. His parents are DVC members but they do Disney way different than what I am used to. They tend to go for a whole week and only visit the parks 2 of the days they are there. I don’t understand it but hey, whatever floats your boat.

picture.php

Wes and I on our last trip to Disney together (he's the one on the far left )

So this trip is just me and Wes for 3 nights and 4 days at the wonderful world that is Walt Disney World. As I mentioned before, Wes will be celebrating his 23rd birthday during our trip, and that is actually one of the reasons we decided to take this trip. One day at work, about 80 some odd days ago, I realized that I needed to go back to the world asap. I had just been with my parents in February but I couldn’t wait any longer. So I said to Wes, “hey why don’t we go to wdw this September!” Once I convinced him that it was a great idea since he could get into the park for free on his birthday (and since I would pay for all the airfare and the room, and all he would have to buy are his park tickets :D) he said okay let’s go! So, a few days later I booked our airfare, room, and bought our MNSSHP tickets.

Since this is going to be a pretty short trip, we are taking a more relaxed approach to the trip. We have our must sees at each park that we want to see and a couple other things that we want to do like getting a caricature portrait done, go to MNSSHP, and order drinks around world showcase. Hopefully though the parks won't be too busy so we can still fit a lot into our short trip.

Here is our tentative schedule for our trip. Let me know what you think now or forever hold your peace :p

Friday September 18
Depart RDU at 7:00am and arriving at MCO at 9:20am
Head to the All Star Music resort and spend the afternoon checking out the resort
Then around 4pm, head over to the Magic Kingdom for MNSSHP (This is the time we can enter the park just using our MNSSHP tickets, right?)
Dinner at Casey's Corner
Watching the parade and fireworks - this will be our first time at MNSSHP and we are really excited

Saturday September 19 - Wes's Birthday
Heading to DHS for EMH
Lunch at one of the QS locations
Head over to Epcot around 2pm
Check out some of the performers and drinks in WS
Wes's Birthday dinner at Teppan Edo at 6:40pm
Watch Illuminations

Sunday September 20
Its back to Epcot to continue our drinking tour around the WS
Lunch at Tutto Italia at 11:30
Around 6pm head to the Magic Kingdom
Dinner at Pecos Bill

Monday September 21
Head to AK for EMH
Lunch at Flame Tree BBQ or Pizzafari, not sure yet
And then sadly we must leave the park by 2pm to get to the airport

We are very excited for our trip. We both work at the same company and we actually have a conference the 9th through the 13th where we will be working 16 hour days so this trip will be much needed! Wes has an iPhone so I will try to do some live updates while I am in the World. But no promises. :D

That room looks much nicer then the one we had in POP.
I had considered Music but wanted to go back to POP.
Love the pics - thanks for posting!

i thought that all star music was actually a pretty nice hotel. sure, its no deluxe, but it served its purpose as a nice place to sleep. and since we were just there for 3 nights, it was really nice to not have to spend so much on a room. so i think for a short trip, the value resorts are the way to go.

while eating we heard the announcement that mnsshp was starting! so after eating i quickly changed into my costume and wes put on his mickey ears. it was off to do some trick or treating and get ready for the festivities! this was also the first time either of us had been to wdw when they had the halloween decorations up and i loved them!

IMG_5287.jpg

IMG_5285.jpg

we went on a bunch of rides and then got ready to watch the first parade. since neither of us have ever been to mnsshp, we decided to watch both parades from two different vantage points. so we watched the first parade in frontierland. While waiting for the parade to start, some ghost singers came over and sang wes happy birthday.

IMG_5406.jpg

Soon the parade started and we LOVED it!! I think the parade itself was worth the 52 dollars to get into the party.

IMG_5416.jpg

IMG_5526.jpg

After the parade we went on a lot more rides, including dumbo! :D i was so happy that wes went on this ride with me. he absolutely refused to go on dumbo before we left but after some convincing in the park, wes agreed to go on the ride. here is a picture of wes waiting in line for dumbo.

IMG_5462.jpg

and here is another forced posed picture of wes

IMG_5470.jpg

We saw the fireworks (also AMAZING!) and watched the second parade from main street. after the second parade, we checked out some of the shops on main street and i bought the 50 years poster. we left the park around 11:15. It was going to be a busy day tomorrow so we tried to leave before it got too too late.

I didn’t take very good notes this day (probably because I was too excited at being in wdw!) but I promise I remember more about the other 3 days of our trip.

day 2

this was going to be a long day at hollywood studios and then epcot! we woke up around 6:30am and i am in no way a morning person. but i always seem to find the energy when in disney. and today was very exciting because it was wes's birthday! yay!! as we were walking towards the buses wes asked if i had his birthday registration thing to get his gift card  oops! i realize i had left it in the room. so wes gives me his resort mug and runs back to the room. after refilling our mugs, i walked out to the buses to wait for wes. sure enough, a bus to hollywood studios pulls up shortly after i get out there. so i immediately start calling wes's phone over and over and of course, it goes straight to voicemail! just as the bus driver is closing the doors, wes appears. i quickly yell to wes and tap on the bus door. the bus driver kindly waited as wes ran over to board the bus. hollywood studios was opening for emh at 8am and we arrived around 7:20. i was really excited because i have never seen any of the parks at opening before. so it was nice to get there so early to get to the front of the line and the rope drop.

IMG_5543.jpg

as soon as the park opened there was a mad dash to toy story midway mania. we decided that we would get in the standby line immediately since the fastpass line was already crazy crowded by the time we got there. so instead of wasting time in a line just to get a fp for a time an hour away, we got right in line and walked onto the ride. this was wes's first time on this ride and and he loved it. and i would like to think that because it was his birthday, i let wes beat me.

my score is on the right and it was my highest score ever

IMG_5547.jpg

after exiting the ride we decided to see how long the standby line was and decide if we should get a fastpass now or try to ride again. the standby line was only 20 minutes so we jumped back in line. and i got my new high score!! wes still beat me though. my score is on the left.

IMG_5574.jpg

after riding, we got a fastpass and headed over the the rock n roller coaster. which had a 10 minute wait, aka walking from the entrance to the ride. after that it was off to the great movie ride and muppet vision 3d.

IMG_5619.jpg

IMG_5651.jpg

after mv3d, we decided to grab some lunch so we headed over to rosie's all american cafe. i forgot to take pictures before we started eating so here are some pictures, mid meal.

i forgot about something!! on the way to lunch, we were walking down the street and one of the street performers was out. it was the director and as we were walking, i waved to the camera. he said "stop looking at the camera" so i listened and looked off into the distance. then he told wes to put his arm around me and look longingly into my eyes. then he told us to stop and go in for a long kiss. he kept saying hold it, hold it. and of course i couldn't stop laughing. it was really funny and when he finally said cut everyone on the street started clapping. it was a really fun experience.

we were so shocked at how uncrowded the parks were! by 10:30 we had already been on two of the most popular rides (tsmm twice). it was such a wonderful time to go to the world! anyway, after lunch it was time to use our fp for tsmm. and look who we ran into on our way over to tsmm!

IMG_5663.jpg

they had just gotten out there so there was only one other family in line. i like meeting the characters but i only stop for short character lines. while in line for tsmm, i made wes pose for various funny pictures along the way.

IMG_5656.jpg

i was hoping to finally beat wes this time and i was winning after the first two rounds. somewhere after round three, i lost my lead and wes came out victorious.

IMG_5660.jpg

after tsmm, it was off to one man's dream, star tours and then tower of terror. on the way to star tours i had to stop to pose with some famous heads.

IMG_5626.jpg

IMG_5623.jpg

and wes even joined in...hahaha ok, i made wes join in but he looks like he is having fun. and kind of like he is copping a feel on mr.cosby and his sweater.

IMG_5625.jpg

after tower or terror we walked around the park a little bit and then decided it was time to head out to epcot. we boarded the bus to epcot around 1:40.

second half of wes's birthday celebration to come tomorrow.

continuation of day 2, wes's birthday celebration

once we arrived at epcot we headed straight for sse. i just love this ride and think it is really well done.

IMG_5716.jpg

i also think the end part is really cute. wes and i try to pick different things each time to see what crazy scenario we will have in the future.

IMG_5714.jpg

after spaceship earth we went to ellen's energy adventure.

IMG_5718.jpg

this was the first time either of us had been on this ride. i thought it was pretty good. during the dinosaur scene, i was just looking at all of the details of the ride and i was looking straight at the dinosaurs that were drinking some water. well all of a sudden, i get hit square in the face with water. hahaha wes looked at me and was like "where did that come from!" he couldn't figure out why my face was wet. hahaha he was sad he missed the initial hit. i am sure my reaction was really funny. after eea, we went on test track and journey into imagination with figment.

we were done with future world for the day, so we headed over to world showcase. we stopped in the uk pavilion to watch the british invasion.

IMG_5726.jpg

IMG_5731.jpg

i love those guys. before their set started, wes went over to the france pavilion to get us an orange grand marnier. it was good but it tasted strong. it didn't feel strong. probably because wes and i were sharing one. after watching the british invasion, we walked around world showcase checking out the countries and allowing me to take more goofy pictures of wes.

IMG_5735.jpg

i told wes to pretend like he was riding on a flying carpet in morocco

IMG_5739.jpg

and here i told wes to pretend like he was pushing down the building in japan

we ventured over to germany where we shared a becks beer. it tasted pretty much like budweiser. it was so hot that day, so it was a good thing that wes and i were sharing drinks, otherwise it may have been bad news bears.

IMG_5745.jpg

we continued walking over to norway to ride malestrom. i just think this ride is so funny. when i went on this ride with my parents back in february, my dad said at the end of the ride "ok, so now we know norway is all about vikings, trolls and oil drilling" now when i am on that ride, that is all i can think about. and the ride really does give that impression. hahaha after the ride, it was time for us to check in at teppan edo for dinner. i decided to try a drink, so i got a kirin light and i was surprised that it tasted so much like a bud light. the food was really good and our chef was really funny. we had a girl chef and i just think they are the best! they are just so much funnier than the guys. hahaha

IMG_5752.jpg

IMG_5758.jpg

since it was wes's birthday, they brought out a slice of ginger cake and gave him his very own chef's hat to wear!

IMG_5762.jpg

after dinner we started walking to try a spot for illuminations. after walking, we realized that the best spot we could find was the one at the japan pavilion right outside the restaurant. so we walked back to japan and claimed a seat for illuminations. the show was wonderful as usual, and we had a really nice view from so high up with no obstructions. wes had a great birthday in disney. we continued to celebrate his birthday for the next two days so it was quite the birthday extravaganza! after illuminations, we casually walked out of the park to go catch a bus back to the resort. it was going to be another long day tomorrow so we needed to get some sleep. :snore:

day 3

today we were headed back to epcot and then to the magic kingdom to end the day. we were supposed to wake up around 7 but we slept in until a little before 8. oops. so we quickly got up, dressed and were off to refill our resort mugs and catch the bus. we caught a bus around 8:20 and were at the park by 8:40 so we were able to see the park opening! not too shabby. again, we were right up near the rope drop so i was able to snag this close pic of mickey

IMG_5780.jpg

we decided to start the day off at test track since the last two times wes and i were there together we didn't get to ride. so we grabbed a fastpass and then got in the standby line. after riding test track, we went over to ride soarin which only had a 15 minute wait. so we got in the standby line and then on the way out we were able to get a fastpass. then it was off to find nemo at the seas.

IMG_5797.jpg

IMG_5803.jpg

and i just love the seagulls. they are so funny. after we found nemo, it was time to return to test track to use our fastpass.

IMG_5805.jpg

and i was so excited that i was tall enough

IMG_5806.jpg

after test track it was off to ride spaceship earth, where we chose another funny future.

it was about 11:15 and it was time to use our soarin fastpass. we had lunch reservations at tutto italia at 11:30 and i knew we would be cutting it close trying to fit in soarin. but we got in line anyway and went on the ride. we got out of the ride around 11:45. ahhh! being a former hostess, i hate being late for reservations. we didn't make it over to tutto italia until noon. there was hardly anyone in the restaurant! so i didn't feel too bad about being so late. we got a cute little table by one of the front windows and got to look out onto the empty italian street.

IMG_5827.jpg

IMG_5819.jpg

wes ordered the lasagna and i got the spaghetti. both were really delicious!

IMG_5821.jpg

IMG_5823.jpg

the waiter brought out a special dessert for wes since we were still celebrating his birthday!

IMG_5824.jpg

after lunch it was off to check out the countries we didn't get to see the day before. we went over to china and checked out the interesting artifacts. i thought these guys were really funny with their different expressions.

IMG_5835.jpg

after china, it was over to mexico to get some frozen drinks. wes got a margarita and i got a pina colada. after getting our drinks, we saw senor donald! (that picture is on my photopass cd so i will post it once i get my cd in the mail)

IMG_5838.jpg

IMG_5839.jpg

the drinks were both very tasty but it ended up being a bad choice. it was such a hot day and i started getting really over heated. my face was bright red from the drink and the heat. so we went into mousegears to get in the air conditioning and get some toys for my dog, daisy. after shopping, we decided we had done all we wanted in epcot and would head over to the magic kingdom. it seemed like we still might make it to see the 3 o'clock parade so we went over to get on the monorail. we switched trains at the ttc and once we boarded the monorail they came over the loud speaker saying they needed to turn off the power and turn it back on. not sure why, but then we finally got moving. then as we were on our way, they had to stop again on the tracks. so we missed the parade by about 15 minutes but no worries.

once in the magic kingdom we headed over to tomorrowland since we didn't really get to any of the rides when we were there on friday. our first stop was on the tta. i love this ride. its just so relaxing. and it was really cool to see part of space mountain with the lights on.

IMG_5849.jpg

IMG_5850.jpg

we then went on buzz lightyear where i always do terribly. i just can't see where the laser is pointing. i really think i always get a broken gun because there is no way i could be that bad. but probably i am just really bad at that game. we were then done going on rides in tomorrowland (since space mountain is still being refurbed) so we went to the castle to watch dream along with mickey. i know this show has been out for awhile now but this was the first time i had seen the whole thing. i thought it was cute and i am glad i saw it so i don't have to see it again. hahaha after the show we went over to adventureland and rode potc. it was then off to tom sawyer island, which is another thing i have never done before. parts of the island were closed to be refurbed so i guess i will have to go back again to see the whole island. after getting back from tsi, we went to visit the haunted mansion. we were in the stretching room and i always like to look up to see the guy hanging. well i looked back down and the cast member was standing a couple inches away from my face.  it took me a couple seconds to realize too so everyone in the room started laughing. it was a nice little memory from the ride. then we went on splash mountain and got really soaked. afterwards we rode btmr. i like riding it at night and seeing all of the miners in the buildings. we were finally hungry again after our hefty lunch, so we went to pecos bill cafe. we both got the double bacon cheeseburgers and they were gooooood.

IMG_5875.jpg

when we were at the fixins bar, the top of my bun fell off the tray onto the floor. so wes went up to get me a new bun. the cast member was really confused as to why wes needed another bun. which made me think, we really could have gotten one burger and split it by getting an extra bun. but i am glad we didn't because i actually ate my entire burger. hahaha i guess i was really hungry.

after dinner it was back on the tta. we got on the ride just as wishes was starting and it was really neat to see the fireworks form the ride. after tta, we went back on buzz where i actually beat wes! and it was my highest score ever! his gun was really broken but i told him that that must be my problem too every other time we ride. after buzz, emh had begun and i actually got wes to go on carousel of progress with me! this was another attraction he refused to go on and it took some persuading. as the first scene was wrapping up and the singing started wes turned to me and said "we are going to watch this scene again" i was really confused and then the scene started again. the room didn't rotate during the song. so all of us in the room were laughing and then when the scene was over we were crossing our fingers that we would rotate and thank god we did.

this was the busiest we had seen the parks. so we were trying to go on rides with short wait times but that was kind of hard to find which was really surprising since it was almost 10. we went over to winnie the pooh and snow white's scary adventures which had less than 20 minute waits. you can tell wes was really excited that these rides were some of the last rides he would go on in magic kingdom before we left.

IMG_5889.jpg

so after the "kiddie" rides, we decided that we wanted btmr to be the last ride we went on before heading back to the resort. there was only a 10 minute wait which was no problem. so after btmr it was back to the resort for some much needed sleep before our last day in the world.

up next: last day in the world at the animal kingdom

day 4

today was our last day in wdw. today we were going to animal kingdom for emh and then to mco for our flight home. we woke up a little before 7 and boarded the bus to ak at 7:40. we arrived two minutes after the park had opened so we missed the opening ceremony. darn. maybe next time we will actually make it. we looked for the central fastpass location but we didn't see them anywhere so we went over to asia to ride expedition everest. we stopped for a photo opp along the way

IMG_5930.jpg

i immediately went over to get a fastpass to use for later and then we got in the standby line which only had a 5 minute wait which meant literally walking from the entrance to the ride. the yeti did not seem to be in A mode and wes even noticed it. i still love the ride though. and this time i decided to try to take some pictures while riding.

IMG_5985.jpg

IMG_5986.jpg

after ee, we walked over to africa to ride kilimanjaro safari which only had a 20 minute wait. we were seated on the right side of the vehicle so we missed out on getting a good view of the majority of the animals. but i was able to see some giraffes up close.

IMG_5942.jpg

once getting off the safari, we could get another fastpass so we grabbed one for the safari. we then walked over to dinoland usa to ride dinosaur. on our way we saw goofy and pluto walking out so we stopped to have our picture taken. (these pictures are also on the photopass cd) i really like the dinosaur ride and think the whole concept is really fun. when the dinosaur pops out its always so scary even though i know its coming. after dinosaur, it was time to use our ee fastpass. after ee, for a second wonderful time we went over to the maharaja jungle trek. neither of us have ever walked this trek before and i was pleasantly surprised at how much i liked it. the themeing in the animal kingdom is just so well done. even the water fountains are pretty to look at.

IMG_5999.jpg

after our trek in the jungle, we went over to its tough to be a bug. i don't understand how parents bring their small children on this ride. its even scary for adults! a family sitting in front of us had to leave because their child who was probably maybe 3 was screaming from the moment we got in there. after ittbab, we used our fastpass for ks. this time i was planning on asking to be on the left side of the car but it ended up that i didn't have to ask and we were placed over there. so i was excited to get to see more of the animals. of course the lions were sleeping, per usual but we also got to see a warthog sleeping in his little burrow.

IMG_6046.jpg

once we were done going on safari, we had done everything that we wanted to in the ak. i was so happy that we managed to cram everything in since we had to leave the park by 12:45 to get back to the resort in time to catch the magical express. since we had finished going on all the attractions, we went over to camp minnie mickey to try to get some pictures with characters. we got our picture with goofy and donald (on the photopass cd which has yet to arrive). i wanted to get pictures with some other characters but i just can't wait in those long character lines. so after getting our pictures taken, we went to eat lunch at flame tree barbeque. this was the first time we had eaten there and i really enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. the bbq sauce was good too.

IMG_6052.jpg

after lunch, i wanted to do some shopping to look for something to get my parents. my dad was watching my dog, so i really needed to get him something. i also have been wanting to get something with the "tigger is that you" on it. i just think it is so adorable! but i know i probably would only wear the shirt when in disney so i didn't want to get a shirt. well i saw this time that they had beach towels! and i love beach towels. so wes bought me the beach towel which was very nice of him to treat me using his birthday gift card. it was about 12:30 when we left the park to go back to the resort and i realized i still needed to get my parents some souvenirs. i found the perfect shirt for my dad but they didn't have it in his size. i asked one of the cast members to see if they had anymore in the back, but they didn't. so we still had about 40 minutes until we had to board the dme, so i thought it would be a good idea to go over to the all star sports resort to see if they had the shirt. so we walked over there, and as i walked over there i realized we probably should have called to see if they even had the shirt before making the trip over there. we got there and they didn't have the shirt either. bummer. but it all ended up working out because the assp store had a lot of sports stuff and my dad loves golf. so i got him a donald golf towel and some disney golf balls. wes also finally found something to spend his gift card on. he bought a mickey football player bobble head to put on his desk at work. it was only 20 so he still has some money left on his card for his trip with his family in december. after we were done shopping, we walked back over to the asmu resort to claim our luggage from bell services and waited for dme to arrive. the bus was supposed to arrive at 1:55 but it showed up a little late, which isn't a big deal since our flight wasn't until 5. right as we boarded the bus it started to rain. it hadn't rained all weekend until we got on the bus to left. it was like florida was sad that we had to leave.

we had an amazing 4 days in the world. it was a really short trip but it was worth it to get a little disney fix in since i wasn't sure when i would be going again. the weather was perfect, although a little hot and the crowds were minimal. this was the first time i stayed at a value resort and although it met the needs of our short trip, i really miss the deluxe resorts. i am totally won over that september is a great time to go to the world and wes really seems set on going on another trip together next september! i think next time though we want to stay for at least 5 nights at a deluxe resort because 3 was just a little too short. but by next year we will have more money saved up and more vacation time at work. my mom was also really sad that she wasn't able to go on this trip so it seems that i will be going with my family in dec 2010!! so it looks like right now i get to plan 2 trips for 2010 and i can't wait! i hope you all enjoyed reading my trip report and i can't wait to get back to reading everyone elses!!

*once i get my photopass cd in the mail i will be adding more pictures so hopefully i get my cd in the mail soon!!

I just finished your trip report! First I have to say how impressed I was that you ate that whole double bacon cheeseburger at Pecos Bill's! I know how the short trip feels, it is exciting that you got to go, but you don't feel "full" of Disney, your appetite is just barely quenched. Hopefully you'll make it back in 2010!

Great report!! I really enjoyed all your pictures. We've taken a few 3 day trips and you're right... it's just not long enough. Bumping up to 5 days makes a huge difference! So I hope you get to go back again together next September.

thanks for reading takemethere! i was pretty impressed with myself for finishing that whole burger! i did give wes my bacon which made me feel a little better about eating the whole thing. i did have a great time on my short trip but it just really made me want to go back so much sooner! i think it was what i needed though to tie me over until my next trip. everything looks good for the 2010 trips so far so i'm keeping my fingers crossed that these trips will come through!

Great trip report! Sounds like you have a blast!

thanks for reading gamedude! i did have a great time.

Sounds like a good time... but you missed out on a very important detail..

A picture of you in costume! What did you dress up as for MNSSHP?

i know!! its on my photopass cd which still hasn't arrived! i just want it to get here already! we took 85 pictures in just 4 days and once i added borders and stuff, there are now 103 pictures on there. as soon as i get it, i will post those pictures! and to answer your question, i dressed up as minnie mouse!
