Scrim Over TTA's Progress City

Is it realistic to think that display is the City of Tomorrow?
But...it's Walt's city of tomorrow! The ideas behind Tomorrowland, the inspiration that gave us EPCOT, and indeed the entire Florida Project.

WDW and TL weren't conceived as showcases for 'cartoons with space theme'. These were brought in later by the vandals. The way the Acropolis was turned into a goat shelter by later, lesser rulers. TL is not about Buzz and big blue monsters. It is about a tomorrow on the move, about better living, about progress. About unbridled optimism and faith in humanity.

they are probably adding interactive elements to it, you know, just like Walt wanted it....
Why do so many people think Walt wouldn't love the interactive stuff? He very well may have seen it as the evolution of innovation that he was known for. If Walt had been around in a different time, I believe his opinions toward a lot of the stuff that people dislike in the parks would be surprising to those people.

Progress City wasn't even all that new when it was new. It shares a lot in common with ideas presented in Garden Cities of To-Morrow (1898) by Ebenezer Howard.

One thing Walt Disney World fans tend to refuse to acknowledge is that Walt's attention had moved away from theme park design. He had moved on to EPCOT and had he somehow continue living, he probably would have moved on to other areas of interest.

Right. It seems that when some fans don't like something, they look to something Walt said or did in 1952, or whatever date suits them, and pretend he never felt anything different ever again. Like invoking his name automatically ends the debate in their favor.

I agree, clean it up. I love that model of the "city of tomorrow".

I remember reading a few years ago that there was at least a desire at one point to clean up and somewhat restore the model but that it was squashed. I'm not sure how true it is, but I believe I read that it came down to a problem of determining which department actually had "ownership" of the model and the authority to do and/or fund the project. Again, not sure how accurate this info is so take it with a grain of salt.

It would be really great if they are finally getting around to cleaning it up. That model is in rough shape.
