Saving Money: DirecTV Customers Call Them for Offers!

We're all perpetually saving for Disney and every little bit helps. I just wanted to pass along a quick story for DirecTV customers:

A few months ago my sister called them to inquire when AMC would be back. They said they didn't know but offered her the NFL Sunday Ticket (this year it's $250) as a consolation. I wanted the free ticket so I called them and they said it was not one of my "offers", but they could take $5 a month for 6 months off from my HBO service and give me Cinemax, Stars and the Sports Pack free for 3 months, but I would need to call back to cancel the services prior to 90 days or I would be charged. So I called back yesterday to cancel them, and they told me I have new offers on my account: they can take $10/month off of the HD service for 1 year. OK - sign me up! The could also either take AN ADDITIONAL $15/month off for a year ($180) OR give me a $200 Visa giftcard if I agree to a one year contract. I've been in my house for 11 years, all with DirecTV, and I'm not moving, so I took the contract and the giftcard. IN ADDITION - with the one year contract they gave me the NFL Sunday ticket for the remainder of the season - free.

So anyone with DirecTV may want to call and see if there are any current offers on their account - could be worth it! :)

I think DirecTV is amazing. I have been with them for years, and I am almost always on some sort of promotion with them. I'll call and ask to see what is available to me, and a few times I had called to downgrade our package b/c it was too expensive, and I am always getting something free or at a discount. They are great working with you on that! My promos are usually between 4-6 months, and I call right after it ends to see what is there. There has been one time in 8 years that they had not had anything to offer me.

I am actually calling in to cancel Starz, Show, HBO, and Cine in a bit. We only watch four shows annually on those and never watch any movies on them. $45/month for channels you do not watch is a bit high. Thanks to this I will prod around a bit.

Let us know how it works out!! I'm always curious as to what offers are out there.

Isn't it DISH Network that is missing AMC? I have Direct and I have AMC. I think I saw an ad recently actually talking about how Dish didn't have them. Anyway... (lol)

I have some big concerns about my future bill when all my little "12 months of ____" discounts wear off. Think they'd be willing to make some deals with me when that happens? I suppose all I can do is try huh? LOL!

If I am not mistaken Viacom channels were dark on Direct TV for just a few days but they never lost AMC. Dish Network still lacks AMC.

It may have been Spike - whatever it was it got them free football!! I've had constant discounts of one kind or another for a while now. I have a friend that had them for a few years and was going to switch to cable - and they told her if she can send them a copy of the wrk order that shows her intent to switch they would give her an introductory package with all sorts of extras for 2 years! They are always willing to work with you.

Oh yeah THAT I remember (we lost Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. and my son was a mess)!! :)

That is awesome... my biggest concern is we have a 2 year contract (we switched to them from Dish after bad experiences where they weren't willing to work with you at ALL) and our special deals are only for the 1st year.

We told Dish we were leaving unless they could give us the same deals they give new customers, not a bad request when you consider we didn't have a contract anymore and were willing to get back into one if they would. They flat out refused. I mean I spoke to supervisors and they were just rude about it saying (I swear to God) I'd have to leave and come back to get the deals. Ok bye! LOL!

Spike was one of the channels in the Viacom package that went dark on DirectTV. Nick, Comedy Central, MTV and a few others were in that package as well.

That's crazy!! I have a friend whose mom called Cablevision to inquire how to shave some money off the bill and the customer service rep said they couldn't help her and gave her the phone number to call to cancel service. They have Fios now!

That was right about how Dish treated us. I was honestly just blown away. I've worked in the call center industry for HUGE companies for 15 years and never in my experience has it ever been ok to treat a customer like that.
