Free dining is still a discount, those people aren't really paying "rack rate" Its just that the discount is the value of the dining plan.
Only to the extent that the artificially inflated food prices make up the difference between the rack rate and the potential discount otherwise being offered.

Yes, but a discount is still a discount. UK offers are very different to the US ones, but I save significantly with free dining. If I mainly ate quick service then I estimate I would spend on average £40 a day (about $50 is my guess at average food costs). Over a 14 night trip that's £1100 for two of us, or pretty much a 30% discount on my last trip. Given that the dining plan gives more table service meals compared to my average guess of £40 a day the actual value of food we get is far higher.

For me it doesn't matter if someone gets a flat 25% off or a free dining offer, the bottom line is they are still saving money compared to buying two meals in park/resort a day and paying full price for the resort. Unless you bring sandwiches it is pretty hard to not even spend on two QS meals a day.

Think for yourselfer
People built buildings and lived in Florida before air conditioning was invented.
True. True. People also built buildings before lumber was invented, or steel, or sheet rock or insulation or...you get the idea. Anyways, before AC it was much hotter in doors then it is now. AC rules.

Have a good time. If you want more luxurious accommodations and 5 star discreet service , FS over GF hands down.
It's just a nice a hotel not Disney. Going to Disney is the whole Disney experience where you leave the outside world behind, and you are not spending that much time in the hotel anyway, and one of the best parts to a Disney trip is hearing that "welcome home" when the bus pulls into your resort.

No, but it would be no trouble to install vents along the floor and ceiling to provide convection cooling. Apparently, that's all you need in Florida.

No, you also need movement. Gondolas moving at 12MPH with open ventilation provides a nice cool airflow.

More importantly, do you have any idea how people stayed cool before air conditioning? Well-designed cross ventilation.

$900/night only goes so far and they just opened the Beauty and the Beast lounge that Grand Fla. guests have been demanding for 25 years.

Survey results I received:

What would you most-definitely like to see at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa?

71% Beauty and the Beast Lounge
22% 3-ply toilet paper
7% directions to the Harry Potter Land at the Studios

ONLY 22% wanted 3-ply TP? Surely that's a mistake.... 😉

I had a great stay there but I used my points. didn't see any of those issues but I always admit, I doubt if I'd notice 1/2 the stuff folks here notice.

Sorry it missed the mark for you, we thought it was a great resortView attachment 417291

Nice try....your first pics are of a 1 bedroom in the Villas. Which opened in 2013. @monothingie is talking about the non-DVC resort.

Those room pictures appear to be from the DVC Villas at the GF, and they are fantastic, but they are not what I'm talking about. Plus they're only around 8 years old. I'm talking about the 30 year old buildings and rooms in the non-DVC hotel section of the resort.

6, opened in October 2013. One of my home resorts, btw.
