Theme Park Ranger is reporting the death of 24 year old female elephant at WDW. She had been there since 2007, and for the last two months was said to be suffering from skin sores and gastro-intestinal problems.

Reminds me of when a rhino and a couple of other animals died in the early days of DAK (maybe before the park opened to the public?).

Carl Hiaasen has a funny chapter on that in his book Team Rodent...

dunno about rhino... but just after ak opened several west african crowned cranes decided to 'milk truck' themselves with the safari trucks..

Hence the 'bird skirts' being added to the front of each truck :)

I heard from the education team today that she wasn't well. Sad :( She had apparently been spilling large amounts of protein for a few weeks. They had to move quite a few educational programs/back stage tours due to her illness.
