RnRC's John Polynesian resort stay Trip report

Day 1

We arrive at the Polynesian Resort at 7:30 AM Tuesday morning the 27th of May. Our room was ready so we checked in unpacked and checked out the view and ammenities. We had a PERFECT view of the volcano pool. It was a beautiful sparkling day and not to mention we had a "partial" lagoon view we could see the GF and the wedding house. We ate a nice breakfast at captain cooks (I know its the fast food place but it has that touch of disney magic). The food was delicious and Then we headed to the car to go to Disneys Animal Kingdom to start our vacation. We arrived at 8:30 AM I grabbed a Iced moca while waiting for the park to open.. gotta love them. They actualy opened the gates at around 8:45 AM a bit early which was a nice suprise. We looked at some of the animals at the entrance and headed toward dinoland U.S.A On the way we did Its a Bug's life because there was no line and we probably would not head this way later. Dinol Dinosaur being our favorite ride in the park was of course first and a great way to start the vacation.
Afterwards we looked at the shop outside of the ride, and purchased a Pal Mickey.. This guy is chock full of corny jokes (still very funny) and great information. We then did the Primeval whirl spinning coaster, for not having the traditional disney theme it is still great fun! We headed towards Asia to do another favorite, Kali River Rapids. We got soaked.. no drenched on this, everytime I do it I marvel at the great story and theme to this ride.. it almost makes you want to .
After getting off and we hopped right back in the line at the "re-entry" and did it AGAIN:sohappy: . My only complaint is that it is rather short but such a great ride. After thiswe did the jungle trek, I noticed a new prehensile tail skink in the bat house (I'm a reptile freak.. I would notice these things..)
As we headed towards Africa we grabbed a fast pass for Kilimanjaro safaris and went to Rakifi's planet watch for the first time, never noticed it actually. This place was great and we spent about an hour and a half here, we got to kilamanjaro safaris 5 minutes before our fast passes went bad :lookaroun.
This ride is a beautiful creation and the animals are great. After that we went to get the Pal Mickey activated and we left as we are not into shows and had done everything we felt we wanted to do. Now being 2:00 PM we left to go back to the hotel. We had set it up so they had a cake and party accessories left for my best friend josh as his birthday was about a week from then (His birthday is actually this saturday :sohappy: ) He loved it and was really shocked. We ate some cake and relaxed a little bit and did a little unpacking and headed to the pool. We did alot of swimmin' n ' slidin and went to do the Water mice and they sayed we were not tall enough , This was a big disapointment but the CM sayed that I could put socks in my shoes and spike my hair and they would let me on.. I was about 1/2 inch too short:lookaroun . We got on and I drove my friend around and to Bay Lake. It was a great time and those little things go FAST!
After all that exitement we grabbed some E-ride night tickets for magic kingdom that night and did some more swimming. At 6 PM we left for the Magic Kingdom we got there and as we got off the monorail I get a phone call from mom and we forgot our TICKETS! ugh.. this was a big bummer so we had to jump back on the monorail and grab the tickets and get back on the monorail just in time to get back to Magic kingdom for E-ride night. Of course we did Space Mountain first. No wait at all and we did Buzz lightyear right after. My friend had a realy bad headache so we took a break and rode TTA and relaxed and layed down for awhile. After that it was off to Frontierland to do Splash mountain and Thunder. We did splash first and it was a great ride esp. at night! Thunder was great too but not my favorite ride. After that we did Haunted mainsion.. We scared these girls realy bad by banging on the back of there car they were screaming. After that we headed back to Tomorrowland for another run on Space mountain and we also did Astro orbitor. Then it was time to go home after doing some pin shopping at the emporium of course:sohappy: . We got back to the hotel room to find my mom sleeping and my friend practically passes out. Of course I am not a sleeping type and I was no where near tired (10:30 PM) So I went to the pool to do some swimming and then I ordered room service and fell asleep happily every after...

Everyday is magical!

Day two.. Disney MGM studios/Epcot

Started the day out by waking up at 8:00 (pretty late for going to the world, Usualy at home we get up at like 6:30:lol: ) It was very nice "sleeping in" disney style knowing you re 5 minutes from the parks. We got dressed and out the door and ate at Captain cooks again and headed to the Disney MGM studios. We arrived a little bit after opening (9:30) Headed straight for Hollywood BLVD. We went to do Rock'n'rollercoaster while my mom got fast passes for Tower Of Terror. Unfortunatly we found out the line was 55 minutes already:eek:. So we waited 25 minutes for ToT and we got a GREAT sequence. We dropped from the top to the very bottom TWICE. We rode again right after and got the same sequence. (used our fast passes) and got some for RnRC and waited in the regular line for it now 25 minutes long . It is a great thing to do in the morning! Right after we got right back on with our fast passes and headed back for the hotel. We rented the water mice again this time each getting our own boat. We did them for an hour and had a blast. After that we pooled it for a little bit and got some Pina coladas (gotta love um!) anc I and my best friend Josh jumped on the monorail to Epcot now being 6:00. We headed directly to Test track did not pass go or collect $200. We rode it once and looked around at M:S and some stores (Test track exit store and Mouse gear) and headed to Houney I shrunk the Audiance and it was down for referbishment.. apparently they are putting up new screens. For this they kept the photo lab open late and we were in there for about an hour messing around with stuff, great fun. We went back to Test track and I got the middle seat and i came off the ride with INCREDIBLE back pain (And I am 13 BTW) They let my friend get back on this it was about to close and i just sat in one of the cars at the post show and I also bought a pair of Halfpint oakleys with a black frame and flame lenses just because. My backpain got worse and by the time we got to the park exit the illuminations croud was there and I had to have the security gaurd escort me to the monorail and make sure I had a seat and did'nt wait in line (whoever you are if your out there thank you a bunch) We got back to the Polynesian and I was just like out.. the pain was so unbelievable. We called the hotel main lobby and they called the manager of the entire polynesian resort to come to our room and check things out.. somehow it got canceled and they offered to havea ambulance take me to the emergency room on them.. we wanted to wait awhile to see if it would get better. I took some tylonol and my mom put hot towels on my back and lots of pressure and it got alot better. We ordered room service and went to bed...

Thank you for your neat report--the Polynesian is my favorite resort.

I have a question for you---I posted this in another forum here and I guess I got the wrong answer.

I read on another messageboard that Pal Mickey must be "programmed", but then when I asked the question here everyone said that he did not have to be programmed, that he was automatically programmed when you walk through the turnstiles.

So which is it? I'd like to know what to do with him once I get there. I already purchased him through the mail. If he has to be programmed where exactly do we do this at?

Thank you!

Okay... Here is the scoop. When you first buy him you need to take him to a certain location location in the park (in DAK its the outfitters store), And get it activated. It takes about 5 minutes and thats it. Everytime you walk through the turnstiles it activates it again.

We woke up at around 7:45 and ate breakfast at Kona Cafe. I had two eggs and the fried potatoes. I did not like my meal so I ate a frosted donut. We hopped on to the monorail to the Contemporary resort to Sammy duvall's for an hour of wakeboarding and tubing. We had a great driver/instructor Kim, If anyone goes there I recommend her. We did wake boarding for an hour and then bought an extra 30 minutes for tubing. Then after that we swam in the Contemporary hotel pool for about 15 minutes and headed out to the Magic Kingdom. We headed towards Alien Encounter. This was a first for my best friend, I am not to fond of this ride but he seemed to love it. After that we got fast passes for Space mountain and went in the regular line. We waited about 20 - 25 minutes and got right back on after with our fast passes. We headed towards Frontierland and got Fast passes for Big Thunder Mountain and went to Tom Sawyer Island for the first time. We stayed until our fast passes were ready for BTMRR. The ride was great. We ate our last big meal at the Christal Palace It was a great time and the food was great. We had gotten fast passes for Peater pans flight which had a 65 minute wait. so we headed there and did it ( I love that ride ) and did small world. I realy hated that ride I'm sorry:lookaroun . We headed to Adventureland and did Pirates of the Caribbean, It was an incredible ride I never realized it had a drop like that! After that we took the fairy back to the Polynesian and swam for a little and I got my last Pina Colada and we headed for home :(

It was a magical vacation and the polynesian is defidently the best resort on property IMHO.

Thank you for the info about Pal Mickey, I was getting the wrong answers elsewhere.

I think the Poly is the best resort as well, I stayed there during my past 3 trips.

This time we are trying AKL and I'm already regretting it. I know my son will want the slide from the Poly because I guess the AKL slide is not as good. And I'll really miss being able to see the MK at night, it's so magical there!

I hope we have a good time at AKL though. I wanted to try something different, but I think I'll be wishing I was "home" at the Poly.

Hi.......

After you let us know that Pal Mickey has to be "programmed" I posted another thread asking everyone if they knew where he could be programmed in each park so I wouldn't have to run around finding this out.

Everyone said that he does NOT have to be programmed. I don't know what to think. I have a Pal Mickey right now and he talks and tells jokes and the whole 9 yards. But to work in the park does he have to go through this "programming"?

Everyone else says no. I don't know what to think?

Whatever they say... I still know he didnt rumble at all in the parks or say anything (but jokes and games when you squeeze his hand) until we got him activated. Basicly they plug him into the computer and upload some type of information or something. Ask any employee in any park and they should be able to tell you where to go.

When we got Pal Mickey at the Main Street Cinema they put him next to a Palm Pilot like device and "uploaded" the park information into him. They told us when we went to another park they would have to upload that park's info. When we went to EPCOT he immediately knew we had entered the World Showcase but we went and had them "upload" the park info for us at the stroller rental at the International Gateway.

The next day at Animal Kingdom when I asked about getting the park info they said it was not necessary, once he got the info "uploaded" at one park he would recognize any park we took him to as soon as he went in the front gate. Sure enough he commented on being excited about going on a safari as we entered AK and boy was he active in that park. Today when we went to MGM he was excited to be going to the movie studio and again made numerous comments through out the park without him having to have park info loaded again.

So it would seem that he needs to be initially loaded/activated at one of the parks but then he should be good for all of the parks. He has worked in all 4 parks with no problems for me.

Here are the locations I know to get him activated:

MK - Main Street Cinema
EPCOT - Stroller Rental at the International Gateway

Not sure where you go in AK or MGM as I did not need to activate him there. If I can find out I will let you know.
