RIP Tom Petty

Most news outlets are now reporting this. He was taken off life support around 1:30pm eastern time having had no brain activity. Apparently there was a DNR.

I only saw him once but it was a great show. Petty, Dylan, and The Grateful Dead. 7/2/86 The Rubber Bowl, Akron OH.

The short lived Traveling Wilburys groupwas where I first got familiar with Tom Petty back when I was a kid hearing Traveling Wilburys Vol. on cassette tape before hearing him a lot on classic rock stations in the 1990s. The Traveling Wilburys was known as a supergroup that had Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty.
Tom Petty was a great talent in his own right and fitted right with the legends of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison as part of the Traveling Wilburys.

The cool thing is during the show they pulled the Goodyear Blimp out of it's hanger right behind the stage. The Deadheads went crazy.
