I'm wondering if there is ever retail space to rent in the dwontown disney area, or is it all owned by disney? For example,the magic shop, and cigar shop. Are they owned by seperate operators that space is rented from disney or is everything owned by disney? Interested because we own a small chain retail concept, and would be love to be in that area.

It is a mixture. Most stores on the Marketplace side are Disney owned and operated. While most on the West Side and Pleasue Island are operating participants.

As far as how to secure a position? Good luck. I have no idea, but I do know that it's done on an invite-basis.

The retail location at Cirque Du Soleil is run by Cirque as an operating participant, you'll notice that the CdS retail staff wear a La Nouba logo'd nametag, while the other folks you might see in the theater all have the familiar Disney nametags.
The operations of the front of house (Usher, Food & Beverage & Box Office) at the CdS theater are run by Disney, as a part of the La Nouba/DisneyQuest complex. Disney also handles all ticketing for La Nouba.
The back of house (artists, techs, wardrobe, administration support) is all run by Cirque Du Soleil out of their Resident Shows division based in Las Vegas.
