Relative Says She Believes Walt Disney was Racist
January 15, 2014

The grandniece of Walt Disney is weighing in on Meryl Streep's recent comments about the entertainment mogul, saying she has no doubt that Disney was racist, anti-semitic and misogynistic.

During a recent speech given during an awards gala, Oscar-winner Streep referred to Walt Disney as a "gender bigot" and person who "supported an anti-Semitic industry lobbying group."

Walt Disney's grandniece Abigail Disney -- a filmmaker, scholar and social activist -- addressed Streep's comments last Friday on her Facebook page, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "If you are going to have mixed feelings about a family member (and we all do) take it from me, you really need to be as honest as possible about those feelings, or else you are going to lead yourself into many a blind alley in life!!" she wrote.

She continued her candid views about Walt Disney, who is the subject of the current film Saving Mr. Banks, starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson.

"... Anti-Semite? Check. Misogynist? OF COURSE!! Racist? C'mon he made a film (Jungle Book) about how you should stay 'with your own kind' at the height of the fight over segregation! As if the 'King of the Jungle' number wasn't proof enough!! How much more information do you need?" Abigail wrote. "But damn, he was hella good at making films and his work has made billions of people happy. There's no denying it," she added.

In another Facebook post, Abigail explained her position further. "I feel I have to clarify. I LOVED what Meryl Streep said. I know he was a man of his times and I can forgive him, but Saving Mr Banks was a brazen attempt by the company to make a saint out of the man. A devil he was not. Nor an angel. That's the point and if you read ALL her remarks you'll know that's exactly what she was getting at. She said exactly what I said about how in spite of it all, his vision was amazing and he brought joy to so many around the world. So I say Brava Meryl. I don't believe in bashing for bashing's sake but whenever we see a misplaced attempt at hagiography we need to speak our minds!"

Louis Prima (King Louie) was Italian. Proof of what, exactly? Disney was, like anyone, a complex man with his share of faults, but I'm not sure why a film that depicts mostly the good side of someone who was, in general, a decent fellow, should make anyone angry. It's not like someone is whitewashing the life of Pol Pot or something.

Hella? How old is this woman?
She was 6 when he died and is from Roy's side of the family, which seems to have a history of being bitter towards Walt. I don't believe the two sides of the family get along very well.

And Prima was chosen because it was pointed out how unintentionally racist it would be to cast Louie Armstrong in the role, who was the studio's original choice. A racist would've gone with that casting and never given it a second thought.

She's so far on the loony left she would consider Shere Hite a mysogynist and Simon Wiesenthal an anti-Semite. When our billionaire heiress is not squandering the fortune her hardworking capitalist grandparents and their brother made for her on her very public feel-good narcistic philantropy, she apparantly chastises them in public for not sharing the values of her class of spoiled Hollywood heiresses. Pft.

There truly is a weird Hollywood ultra-left subculture, as exhibitionist in its public display of post-material values as the flashy cars and fist-sized diamonds of the first generation of Hollywood wealth are of material values. If Madonna adopts two Africans, the Disney heiress adopts an entire village. It's the culture where Roman Polanski can rape children and be considered a cultural hero and Disney can erect a thriving entertainment empire and be considered a cultural disaster. Whatevs. These people are completely removed from mainstream America. And they would have it no other way.

Shrug... this woman is just trying to get some attention. She probably never even met the guy.
Headlines begging for clicks by pointing out someone vaguely related to someone else agrees with another person about a non-issue.
