question about split stay?

Hello! 1st time poster! My family of 4 will be at Disney in September- 4 days on site and then heading to port canaveral for our 1st 4 day Disney cruise. While we are ap holders, live 3 hrs away and go up pretty often, this will be our first time staying on property. (We often go early on a Saturday and grab a cheap hotel and drive home early Sunday so we don't have to take time off work and get our money's worth). I never really heard of a split stay until browsing these forums. We will be staying at the all star sports on the first night because we will be heading up after work and probably won't arrive until 7pm and we wanted something cheap and then will be staying at the boardwalk inn the rest of the time. I booked the as sports on a whim when I saw the ap discount made it very comparable to the off site I was planning on booking. What are the rules of a split stay? Advantages? Will they bring our luggage to the boardwalk? We have 7:30 am reservations at Ohana so we will be leaving as sports quite early so how would we arrange it all? I was planning on dropping our stuff off super early ourselves when I realized this might fit what's considered a split stay. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yes, they will take your luggage for you. You will have to book and arrange your baggage move the night before. You need to ensure that the porters are collecting your luggage at least an hour before your breakfast reservation, leaving you with enough time to get to it in plenty of time

Fantastic thank you! I was planning on dropping it off early anyway so this will be less effort even if we have to arrange it at 6:30 in the morning.

Whenever we do a split stay with our own vehicle, we transport our luggage ourselves. At All Star Sports you can park practically outside your door, so we would not call for assistance and would load our luggage into our car ourselves.

It can take several hours for Disney to transfer your luggage to another resort. Sometimes the room is ready at our second resort, and then we can unpack right away if we have our bags.

At the Boardwalk, parking is less convenient than at All Star. But you can pull up under the port cochere and unload. If you room isn't ready, bell services can stow your belongings for you.

All great points! originally we were planning on going to MK after breakfast at Ohana and leaving when the room was ready and then going back for wishes. This instance your advice makes complete sense. We have a bit of a crazy first day planned (only because we know the kids can handle it so we jumped at the opportunity to do things we don't normally do on day trips).
we are having an early dinner at cinderellas royal table and when we were able to get fast passes, I just don't see us having an opportunity to leave until after wishes anyway or at the earliest after dinner which would not be until at least 5:30. At least if we have the luggage sent over we can head straight to poly for breakfast without having to make a stop at boardwalk at 6:30am. :)
