I worked for a summer a while back, and actually ended up leaving about 3 weeks earlier than my scheduled end date. I did report it, and it was approved. However, it is my understanding that you can just work until the end of your "season" and leave. But, what would it hurt just to check in with your HM and let him know; especially if you want to work there again some day.
