Question about Marvel Day at Sea

We have our Disney Dream cruise booked for next year and we got an email the other day saying it's now a Marvel Day at Sea cruise. I'm not super thrilled bc I'm not a Marvel fan. I'm hoping this doesn't impact a lot of our cruise and most of it is optional (the meet & greets, the show which we might actually attend) but will it be taking away anything from a "regular" cruise? Like will the regular trivia and movies in the cinema be replaced with Marvel themes/movies? I don't want the whole day to be just Marvel stuff. Thanks!

The MDaS, is limited to a single day (for the most part) as a part of your cruise itinerary, and as the name implies it's during a Day at Sea. It features a LOT of Marvel character Meet and Greets, themed menu at dinner (but it's all normal food, with Marvel names, and actually it has many more entree options than typical menus so it's pretty nice). The movie theater will feature all Marvel films the entire day (but the rest of the cruise is normal). Beyond that, aside from decorations and small nods toward marvel at the cafes and such, and of course gift shop merch, the rest of the cruise will be pretty standard.

It's not a deal breaker for the non-Marvel fan, in my opinion.

@ChuckElias did a podcast about MDaS about a year ago that gives some more in depth insight which can be found here:

(or anywhere you get your podcasts)

I don't think it takes away anything from a normal cruise, unless you absolutely HATE anything Marvel and seeing it around the ship will dampen your mood

We just got back from a cruise that had Marvel Day at Sea. I’m not a Marvel fan either, my husband is but is not into characters or shows. Yes, pretty much that whole day is Marvel. There are tons of Marvel characters and the main characters like Mickey and Minnie wear Marvel themed costumes. There are several live shows throughout the ship and two big ones on the pool deck stage. One is Mickey and the gang in Marvel costumes (which I saw and it was fine but not my fav) and the other was Marvel characters that ended in fireworks. I skipped that one. There are Marvel movies playing all day (my husband saw one, I didn’t see any) and yes, some of the trivia and games are Marvel themed.
It didn’t ruin the cruise for me or anything like that. I definitely would have preferred a regular day at sea or something like Pixar Day. We chose this cruise for the dates, not because it was Marvel. We still had a great time and the day was still good overall. This was more of a relaxing day for us. We hung out at the pool, explored the ship, played some shuffle board, my husband went to the gym and I did a stretch/yoga class. There is still lots to do.

Here's a recent Personal Navigator from a January 2024 Marvel Day At Sea cruise, so you can get an idea of the types of events each day

Day 1:

Day 2 (Marvel Day):

Day 4 (2nd at sea day):

Thanks for the info guys! Our Day at Sea is Valentine's Day and my bf and I do not like Marvel so I just don't want all of the activities and things to be Marvel. Talk about unromantic lol. We are going to try to get a reservation at Remy or Palo for that day so hopefully the dining won't affect us but if we wanted to see a movie or play a trivia game or something I really don't want it to be Marvel. I wish Disney didn't change it, we booked the cruise we booked for a reason.

Another option to avoid the Marvel (and possibly more romantic than Trivia or a movie) you could get day-passes to the Rainforest Room (or perhaps spring for the full-cruise passes) and just hang out in the spa. Scented/themed showers, multiple types of saunas (the Hamam is my personal favorite), salt scrubs, heated ceramic lounge chairs on a semi-private balcony, etc. - and book a couples massage for later in the afternoon.

Or one of the mixology/tasting classes.

I checked a few of the past navigators and there's usually non-marvel trivia and/or game shows like Match Your Mate in the adult areas in the evening (the one I posted earlier shows 80s music Trivia at 7:45pm for example).

I get that it's not what you were planning on, but I don't think it will ruin your day either. Hope you have a nice time!

We do plan on doing the Rainforest Room!! We did it on the Wish and loved it and we love day spas. This is great/helpful info, thank you!!

You’ll have no problem avoiding most of the Marvel activities. The Grand Hall will have characters during the day, but we had no problems keeping busy without Marvel involvement on our MDaS cruise on the Dream last March.
