Put the family dog down this morning...

Sheesh... it's been a rough morning! My mom had to put the family puppy down this morning. We got Jewell (named after 101 Dalmations!) when I was 7 years old. She turned 15 in September. Her heart had doubled in size and was pressing against her sides. She went from 27 pounds to 14. :( I know it was for the best, but it doesn't make it any less hard. She was the first and only pet I've ever had. I'm going to miss her so much! Could use some prayers to make it through this work day.

I had to do the same thing over the weekend to a cat we had for around 15 years. I have found that the words of Dr. Seuss comfort me more than anything in times like this.

"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." Dr. Seuss.

We lost our beloved golden retriever 2 years ago, and I still miss her greeting me when I'd come home. Pets steal our hearts for sure ((Hugs))

:( Well that really sucks. Pets are family, sometimes the best members of a family. They love you unconditionally no matter what. Sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry, I know exactly how you feel. My dog Daphne passed away at 17 in January. I still feel weird going to my parents' house and not having her greet me. We got her when I was 10 and I drove my family NUTS watching 101 Dalmatians over and over until we finally got her.
That was a pretty rough month for us, my boyfriend's St Bernard had to be put down due to cancer about two weeks before Daphne passed. I have photos of them up in my living room. It helps to remember how much fun we had.

There's just no substitute for that unconditional love of a wonderful pet. My heart goes out to you and your family. It's been a rough year.

Allergies preclude me from owning pets, but everyone I know that has gone through this experience has exhibited a very real sense of loss and sorrow. You have always seemed to be a very tenderhearted person, and I extend to you my sincere sympathy. I hope that you find enduring comfort in the days ahead.

So sorry to hear this Anna, I've lost pets over the years and they never leave your heart, sometimes it still hurts to think of them. 15 years creates a big bond, I can't imagine going through a loss like that. Jewell was a lucky dog to have you and your family.

Thinking of you, don't forget Jewell is still with you and will be always!

God bless to you all and RIP Jewell.

Sorry, kinda' late with this, but just saw your post.
Prayers that your day got better and you and your family are doing OK.
We have had to do this MANY times over the years and it never gets any easier, really. We have 4 (we have had as many as 3 dogs at a time at least twice) of ours that I buried in the back yard, and 2 others we had cremated (I'm too busy these days and getting too old to have the patience to dig through a lot of limestone with a pickax and a shovel, anymore ;)).
We lost another of my DW's most favorite (although, she loves them all) dogs last year, and the 2 we have left are getting very old and we know their time is not far off.
Although we know that they will probably go before us, we still love them while they are with us.
That's just what you try to learn to accept as a pet owner. :)

Awww...so sorry to hear. There's something special about the unconditional bond a family/pet have with each other and is so hard when it's time to say goodbye. Keep your chin up and just keep the good memories with you.

Thank you so much, everyone! Really appreciate you all and your sweet words. I'll always miss her, but it's so good to know she's not in pain anymore. That fur-baby really had a hold on my heart.
