I heard a rumor that they are looking to replace Primeval Whirl. They want to change to a more maintenance friendly ride. By far, it is the most expensive ride to maintain even though it wasn't expensive to buy. We can all thank Paul Pressler for that!!

Also they should have known better than buy something from France. You never hear the words French Engineering together.

I really hope this is true.
In fact get rid of the whole Dino-Rama area.

Amen to that! Walking into this area almost totally breaks you out of the fantasy world that the AK park engineers worked so hard to create. The area looks like some travelling carnival set up in a WalMart parcking lot. In fact, the last time I was there you could see that the asphalt walking surface of the area used to be a parking lot, with the paint from old parking lines poorly removed. The whole area is an embarrassment to the park.

i might be one of the few, but i don't mind the primevil whirl, or dino-rama. i wouldn't wait in a long line for it, but i think it's a fun ride ( not attraction). and dino-rama's good for small children, and more rides in AK is better than no rides. i think its a quirky section of the park, no worse than say Toon Town.

I was always under the impression that it was SUPPOSED to look like that, with the parking lot paint and everything.

Hahahaha yes it was supposed to look like that. To the person who originally stated this idea, it's supposed to be a road-side tourist spot thus the parking lot and cheap look. Now I'm not excusing Disney for putting this area or anything, but I don't really have a problem with it in the end.

Hmmm... Well, I guess the aesthetic value of the area purposefully looking cheap to give the illusion of a road-side tourist spot was lost on my wife and I. To me it didn't look like a clever attempt to appear cheap - it simply looked cheap period. I can only imagine the kind of do-it-as-cheaply-as-possible planning sessions that went into creating this area. Let's hope they don't repeat this process...

Now don't get our hopes up on a whim.

Is that like French and win or backbone, or maybe even soap? Sorry for the non PC drift, :fork: flame myself.

Taken as a small area, I thought the theming was kind of clever with decent attention to detail. What I always had a problem with is that "mini-theme" has nothing to do with the overall AK theme...at least not as far as I'm willing to stretch it...

I agree, the look isn't great, especially the contrast going from DinoLand to DinoRama. The actual plan of the parking lot has been kept to, but it still doesn't look good. The ride is very enjoyable though, I think they should just change the theme!

Does anybody remember the previous tenant of the Dinorama location? While Dinorama isn't the best section of the park, it is certainly a step up from what used to be there.

There used to be a building called the Fossil Lab, where you could look at people cleaning up fossils (if they were even there). There was also a large walkthrough exhibit where you could look at dino skeletons. This building looked extremely temporary (it was a large, white tent) and was very unthemed.

Now consider the themed Dinorama area, that actually has things that people can do. I wish that they would have relocated the Fossil Lab, and possibly created an extension to the CTX queue to house the skeletons. But, all in all, Dinorama is a huge improvement over what used to be in the very same spot.

I disagree, I think the whole just looks tacky and cheap especially carnival games!! That is one thing Walt didn't want in his parks.

The original plans were much better though. They were going to build a real nice coaster themed around an Archeological Dig site it was called The Excavator. And the coaster would go through several dinosaur skeletons and bones and a dig site.

But they did things cheap and tried save money so they could get a bonus and/or promotion. It was cheap to buy and install, but now they are really paying for it now with constant breakdowns and heavy upkeep and maintenance costs.

Who wants to come to Disney to ride carnival rides that you can ride at a state fair or local carnival ? I don't. The Paradise Pier area at DCA is even worse.

I'm guessing with Everest going up, we won't see the Excavator any time soon. Too bad.

I am really not a fan of that area at all. When I was there a couple weeks ago I remember walking the bridge across from the Everest project, and then feeling like I walked into the state fair. All I wanted to do was get to Dinosaur, but the walk through that really confused me. I started to look around for RV's and for a rigged game where we could win some goldfish. I definatly will be avoiding that area of AK on my next trip there.
