After Its a Small World is finished with its complete rebuild and upgade, which ride would you like to see Disney completely rehab and upgrade?

I say Space Mt. for two reasons:
1. The queue. After Fastpass was added, the inside queue was left unused. I'd love to see a new queue layout that either uses this space, or re-themes this area. (and I kind of miss the silly newscasts/tv programs from space)
2. The ride. I'm with those that feel that this doesn't need to become radically different ride, but I'm sorry, I'm getting a little bit jerked around these days.

I'll admit that I tend to avoid the left track these days as the family jewels seem to get too much of a bashing on that side :lookaroun

I do love PotC, but it could really use some upgrades. I'm not saying they need to radically change it, but couldn't they redo some of the audioanimatronics. Some of those guys just jerk around like some bad '80's dance moves - not very fluid. And aren't some of the pirates too, fluid? I'm talking about the one chasing the women around (and being chased). Does anyone run like that? By the way, would it really hurt to have cannons that sounded more like cannons, not flatulence? :veryconfu

I think Space Mountain needs and upgrade. Too bumpy.

BUT something I think needs a rehab that is not an attraction but part of Disney is Poly!!!! I LOVE that resort, but it needs a rehab. :D

The first thing we need to consider is that we're dealing with THEME PARK ORIGINALS, and for that, they should be respected. All changes should be made in accordance with the spirit of the original attraction - not movies, tie-ins, etc.

In order of least-to-most:

5. Space Mountain - The ride is still popular, there will be a version closed at Disneyland for an entire more year, and because it still thrives off of thrill, other attractions should be given rehabs first.

Changes to be made - New track? Musical score? I'm not too sure, I'm not really digging the musical score, as the WDW version's darkness/screaming adds a little to the nostalgia factor. I would bring back the theme song and bring in an awesome new post-show. I am somewhat more impartial to this attraction. Whatever they do, just keep the building white. ;) :p

4. Pirates of the Caribbean - Honesly, I don't think this attraction needs a rehab as much as others. Show quality is excellent and can only be improved upon. Whatever is done -- no movie tie ins! Leave that for the theatre or DCA/Disney-MGM. :)

Changes to be made - New animatronics? Better speakers? More effects? Certainly! But be sure to keep the cooky pirates, and the overall atmosphere. Much can help.

3. Country Bear Jamboree - The original "Magic Kingdom classic," CBJ still draws in the crowds, and therefore a gut would be unfair. Disney should also know by now that "Under New Management" shows just doesn't work. But this attraction needs improvements.

Changes to be made - New sound system, first and foremost! That's the big one. The animatronics are in good condition, now that they are under a new digital system, but new animatronics with the latest features (will Disney INVEST in this?? I would flip in joy if they did), but, of course the same show, same characters, same spirit.

2. Haunted Mansion - No doubt this one needs it the most. The doombuggies sway from side to side after changing position and the sound system is horrible (especially in the doombuggies themselves). But the attraction remains one of the most definite Disney classics.

Changes to be made - New soundtrack system, maybe get rid of those popping ghosts - maybe ;), brand new track installed, whatever. Bring in the latest special effects, but keep the eerines (perhaps its sign of age MAKES it eerie today?? Perhaps).

But the biggest attraction that needs rehab the MOST - in my opinion - is no doubt

1. Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress - Walt wanted this one ride (dedicated to him, if he knew it or not - at least his vision) to be open as long as the parks existed. Successful seasonal (and even an upcoming year-round) operation and polling that guests love "progress," too. However, it won't have the same lines as Space Mountain - or perhaps even Country Bear Jamboree - because its hidden in Tomorrowland and isn't even advertised properly in the Tomorrowland Transity Authority.

Changes to be made - First -- NEW ANIMATRONICS! Second - reglorify the pavilion. Make a new outside sign have motion and banners (ala World Fair?) and retheme the pavilion to a more pleasing, more state-of-the-art design. Next is the theatre - glorify them. Make the sound system OUTSTANDING (especially the theme song tracks, which are in need of volume and more instruments). New script, new final scene, but one thing should remain consistent - and that's progress.

:D

So far, the only attraction on this list that is planned to go down for rehab is PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. This would happen later next year.

The HAUNTED MANSION was originally slated to have a rehab this past winter, after a Haunted Mansion Holiday premiered. It was cancelled.

Tough choices indeed. They are all classics that need rehabed. I voted for POTC, mostly because it is already set for a rehab after IASW comes back so I guess I'm getting excited to see a nice, clean ride, not something different. I don't want to see movie tie-ins. The movie is based on the ride, so if they re-do the ride, it would make it really cheap if they based it on the movie. A ride based on a movie based on the ride? It makes no sense.

After seeing Grizz's post I'm going to agree with him about COP. It really does need work, and is most deserving of a rehab to bring it back up to the class of a Walt Disney attraction. I agree that COP should get a new, more worlds fair style exterior. If they were to do that, it would attract more attention towards CoP and increase attendence to it even more (not like it's too bad now, always seemed to have people when I was there in June).

I agree with alot of what the Grizz said, but I'd do it in this order:

3. Haunted Mansion: repair ride track, upgrade the sound system, generally improve the effects with the latest tech., But, LEAVE THE SHOW UNCHANGED.
Oh, except I'd really like to see the Raven return to the branch over the stairs where he belongs (after the attic) and darken Madame Leota's room so you can't see the strings.

2. Pirates: I'd love to see some major upgrades here to put it on par with DLP and DL. Get rid of the silly "political correctness" of the chase scene, and add the sword fight from DLP. In fact, copying DLP's chase would be a good idea. Enlarge the treasure cave. Upgrade the battle scene and sound system. Change the end of the show to close the story a bit better so that it makes at bit more sense (why is the treasure kept in the dungeon with the criminals?). I'd move the dungeon a bit toward the burning village, then add a transition that shows the treasury being forced, say through someone blowing a hole in the wall. I'd also like to see an improved exit area, it has always seemed stark to me.

1. Country Bears: New sound is a given. I'd love to see a new show here, one that keeps the spirit of the Bears intact but with newer songs that today's kids can relate to. Something along the lines of the Vacation Hoe-Down, but not as 'Vegas. IMHO, the problem with the bears show is that most of the songs are at least a generation removed from today's families. To put it in perspective, my wife's 80 year-old Grandma went to the bears and sang all the songs the first time she saw it. My kids know "Davey Crockett", and that's about it. The show still captivates them, but an updated playlist would help keep them coming back.

Of course my real number one re-hab would be JII, but let's not go there.:brick:

IF they could rehab PoTC to be like the rumoured Hong Kong version with the flume drop into the skull at the end. But I don't see that happening. Also replace the AA's with the DLP kind.

After that a tie between SM and COP.
Just please no character/movie tie-ins with SM.

I say the Haunted Mansion. The past five or so times I've been in the graveyard part I got nothing but static. Give Haunted Mansion a new sound system.

*gasp* Bite your tongue! :) There were plenty of people there the last time we visited (a couple months ago). It is a classic and very entertaining. It is the Rocky Horror of Disney. If you don't like it, then walk right by it, but please don't take it away from the rest of us.

MK only?

Well, I didn't see anything in the initial question that limits this to MK, but it appears that that is the way it is set up. (Maybe we can do an Epcot list next).

Anyway, I voted for HM as its needs are obvious to all, not just us affectionatos. After that PoTC can be cleaned up without storyline change, give Grizz his new and improved Carousel, give the bears a bath and a new song or two, and somewhere well down the road, you can rehab SM.

Not to sound rude, but this is false. I've been studying attendance for this attraction for several years now and keep in contact with Cast members; there is no attendance issue.

Attractions like Timekeeper are much worse off (if CBJ attendance were horrible, it would go on seasonal operation, and this is not the case). . . but if you experience a bad day at bears, chances are it's a (very) off day, it's parade, or you're there early morning or evening or (again, this is generic).

Heck, I was at bears a few weeks ago and it was EMPTY in the queue area when I went in. But why? The show had just filled up! 18 minutes later, the queue area was back to capacity, with a full show. So near-full capacity shows (and lines, especially in the afternoon on more popular park days) shows no signs ofxtrouble at Bears. Great audience reception, I might add. If ya don't like an original, ya don't like it. . . but so many people do. :)

Again sorry if I sound rude, but this seems to be a general misconception. But to say nobody goes to it just isn't the truth. . .

*hopes he does not foresee another CBJ attendance debate..er..oops. :D *

I'd have to pick Space Mountain. Pirates, Mansion, and Bears are based on using visuals and their atmosphere to create the classic ride feeling. Space Mountain on the other hand is more based on thrills to create its feeling. Now I know Big Thunder is an older type coaster, but it still uses a lot of visual theming to accent its ride. Space Mountain however is in the dark, so its mainly built on sensation. Coaster technology is a lot more advanced now, we could use a new ride track in the mountain.

I'll say this, I'm sooo jealous of the version Disneyland Paris has. What a great coaster to have in the Magic Kingdom!

There is Magic Kingdom's big E-ticket that would satisfy the thrillseekers, plus a ride for the teens/adults. Come on, you took away Alien Encounter, give us older folks something!

I'm just curious Grizz...where do you get your attendance stats?
I have a few questions regarding attendance numbers on other attractions and would Love to know how to get a hold of the right people for the answers.

Perhaps you could share your sources with us so that we, too, might be enlightened.

I wasn't aware that these numbers were available to the public.

I am not one to give out the names of Cast Members who send me information about overall trends, but check out the backside of the turnstyles while at the park (granted, if they are not reset).

I put my word on my information
