I'm all for this new bar, although I don't understand the reference to "drunkytown". The vast majority of drinkers know their limits. There are a few bozos that tend to ruin things, but for the most part I think drinkers behave pretty well. And while I understand Walt's initial desire to not have booze at his original park, I think he would have been fine with alcohol in the parks as it is today.
drunk bozos spend a lot more money!

i'm pretty sure last time i was there i bought a beer just outside the exit at a little stand. it was mainly a coffee and muffin stand but i saw a beer listed and got one. if I'm mis-remembering this i know i got one just across the street from the fantasmic entrance...either location just means they're moving the alcohol just a little closer from where it was, for the person that just can't wait another 100 paces for a drink.

I don't want this thread to devolve into a drinking / not drinking thread. But I reiterate that I think drinkin' folks for the most part govern themselves pretty well. So I would look at the new bar not as a place for people to get really tanked, but just another beverage option.
I completely agree. I've never seen a single person "tanked' at Walt Disney World and I was a local for three years who would visit Epcot pretty much every weekend during Food and Wine. I'm not saying it's never happened, but it's certainly not the epidemic that people are describing.

Separately, I don't think I could come up with a more immature and embarrassing term than "drunkytown" if I tried.

I'm for it! I would love a glass of wine in the evening after riding tot!

And while I'm sure someone will end up going too far with the drinking, for the vast majority of people at Disney, getting drunk is not in their plans and quite frankly, hard to do with the Florida heat, the amount of walking you do, and the high cost of drinks. By the time I've finished a drink in EPCOT, I've already walked so far that I've burned off any buzz I could of aquired. So unless people camp out at the bar all day drinking one after another (I wouldn't want to see that bill), I don't think this will cause as many problems as people may think. There of course is always someone who will abuse it but Disney will definitely take care of them accordingly.

I've seen people tanked in Epcot, my visits are only annual and I missed last year - but I've seen it.
On my last trip, there were two drunk guys rudely hitting on one of the girls working in the gift shop near the entrance to Beach Club. Bad enough that my sons, 12 years old at the time noticed it.
There was also a group of really drunk Norweigans staggering, yelling, and even collapsing around Epcot.
There's a place for everything, and I don't believe this is the place.
Again, there's a difference between being able to grab a beer here, and another one there vs being able to hit a bar where hard liquor or shots can be downed.
It's a matter of degrees and opportunities.

Agreed, so why add a bar and make it easy?

I'm sorry, who is "downing shots of hard liquor" anywhere at Walt Disney World? I think people are jumping to some fantastical conclusions when they hear the word "bar."

Well, as one who spends way too much time in the Rose & Crown, there are definitely those who are downing shots. On my last trip about a month ago there was even a guy who passed out cold (and I mean down to the floor), got up, and big-time ralphed all over the bar. So yeah, there are some folks out there. I just think they're in the minority, and I don't let them ruin my evening.

I might feel differently if I was traveling with a family, but I'm a solo park stormer, so . . . . .

Like I said, I get that it happens, but as you're pointing out it's a small minority. I've seen way more vulgar or offensive t-shirts or women in way inappropriate clothing than drunk people.

Actually the correct terminology is "Drunky land", it's going to be the next expansion after Star wars land & Toy story land. I believe it's going to be a Vegas theme......

We obviously disagree here.
But, a rude t shirt in my opinion can never be more offensive than an obnoxious drunk.
I'm not against alcohol in the parks, but I like that it's generally a here and there offering rather than something people can belly up to.
I agree that generally drinking isn't bad in the parks, and I'd like to see it remain the way.

I can go either way on this topic as I'm not a big drinker, but do enjoy a cold one on a hot day as I am on vacation to relax. As for this location, it seems like it would be better than to have a stand outside, at least on those rainy or blistering hot days. I'm actually more concerned about the theming. If it looks as good as the rest of ToT, I'm on board. Especially since it's an old hotel.

We should note that there was the bar at the back of DHS across from the Backlot Tour. (Darned if I can't think of the name now!) Based on it's location, it's closed along with the rest of the back of the park. So this bar would only be a replacement, not a new addition, as far as drinks go.

I've never seen a single person "tanked' at Walt Disney World and I was a local for three years who would visit Epcot pretty much every weekend during Food and Wine. I'm not saying it's never happened, but it's certainly not the epidemic that people are describing.

I mean this in the most polite way...You my friend are one lucky individual to not have experienced this then. We visit WDW once a year and are not local. For quite a few years, until more recently, we always loved going to the Food & Wine Fest, but began tweaking our plans to avoid certain days due to the level of intoxication we've witnessed. We've seen a few people every year at the Fest "tanked". Most of them are folks who got dehydrated during the day and hit their limit much faster then expected. (You can tell by their behavior to hide it while their family helps them exit the park are sit somewhere with water or coffee.) Most often it's a much younger crowd who's gone there on the weekend specifically to drink it up.

There are numerous places where you can get shots, including at EPCOT. While I agree with you that this does NOT seem to be the cause of drunk & disorderly when it happens, you can indulge in harder liquors at various locations.

I hate to say it, but I've witnessed similar situations around EPCOT. I understand that people getting sick and drinking is not always what it appears based on the conditions, so I don't think much of it so long as they get assistance. But the folks that drink at the F&WF and get belligerent are the ones ruining it for many. I've seen a lot of brawls or scuffles for no reason other than "a fool that can't handle his drink".

But that happens everywhere it seems. Just makes for a slightly less magical day when you're too close to it and traveling with kids.

Keep Moving Forward
The choice in the poll to vote yes for the bar has the insinuation that all people who drink must drink until they are plastered and acting like idiots. Really? I can't just get one TOT themed cocktail while I wait for my family to ride that evil ride? It's a fancy hotel, most fancy hotels have a bar so it doesn't break theme. As for Walt not approving - well he isn't here to ask but since he had a women's lingerie store on MSUSA in Disneyland I doubt there is much that he would say no too shopwise

I'd go for a bar and area serving ToT themed snacks. I've always thought opening a Sunset room with creepy band music as background would compliment the ride. As a non- drinker I'd even dare to try a ToT beverage once. I'm always looking to purchase more ToT merchandise, so maybe they would expand on items available.

I voted other, because I wouldn't mind a bar going in but I don't know if I would buy a drink there or not. Why do people post biased polls? A simple yes or no to the question is much easier to vote on and people can post what they want as to why, what is the use of loaded questions?

Nothing is necessarily wrong with the 4 answers, I just feel it is simpler to give a yes or no choice.giving a yes but....and a yes but....and a no....if you are going to qualify a a yes or no then you better figure out every possible response and give an option not just get lazy and put other.Because as I said people can vote yes or no and give reasons in a post after.
Edit sorry this was in response to Doug Means question of my post

I agree with you regarding the conclusions some draw. However, I have seen shots being downed many times as the Tequila cave, though I don't know how the heck people afford it. The tequila offered down there is very good, but extremely expensive. However I've not had the pleasure of witnessing what @danyoung56 has at Rose and Crown. Still, just because there's a bar, doesn't mean everyone will be staggering away from the ToT. I haven't seen barfing all over taking place that the lounge outside the Hollywood Brown Derby.
