Pokemon Go at the Disney Parks

No doubt. Near-term though the stock has had a very knee-jerk reaction. Up 23%, after a successful launch of a mobile game? I'd also say it would bode much better for Nintendo future-wise if they created the game in-house, but they didn't. IMO, Nintendo needs to scrap their handheld business (3DS), and focus solely on mobile (outside of console gaming). Casual gamers who enjoy playing Mario Kart, but who are by no means huge fans of Nintendo, make up the majority of Nintendo's customer base. I have no clue why the majority of hard-core Nintendo fans insist that Nintendo should stick to their existing product model. It's dead! To say it's not is to naively ignore reality.
The issue is that after the success of the Wii they tried to cater to casuals, and fell flat on their face.

In the Parks
Yes
Avatar's a film built on the idea that everything Animal Kingdom stands for was all for naught with the Earth a devastated dying mess and that we must become Blue Space Furries and start again.

I'd disagree. Avatar is about primitive blue space hippies vs an advanced civilization struggling with atavistic tenancies of some of its members. Its the feels vs the factuals.

This has evolved into a general thread about the game, so I'm moving it to Chit Chat. Please continue the discussion there. Thank you.

And why do I keep hearing the theme from "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World?"
You youngsters will have to google it. ;)

Nintendo and Niantic launched their new "Pokemon Go" mobile phone game today with massive success of the "So many people getting the app that the servers keep crashing" degree. Geocaching type stuff is a big part of the game with Landmarks, interesting points, or just arbitrary things being marked as PokeStops where you can stock up on free items or as Pokemon Gyms.

With Disney being such a high-traffic zone, thought a thread for compiling a list of PokeStops/Gyms on property would be a good idea. Feel free to chime in and I'll keep updating the list, I'm mostly basing this on what I can find on social media (Epcot being the most well documented park for this so far)

Magic Kingdom
Gyms: Cinderella Castle, Pirates of the Caribbean, Main Street Train Station, Haunted Mansion
PokeStops: Partners Statue

Epcot
Gyms: Entry gates, Spaceship Earth, Japan Pavilion, Germany Pavilion, Mexico Pavilion
PokeStops: Spaceship Earth (Gogo Boots Lady!), Fountain of Nations, MouseGear, Universe of Energy, Club Cool, Innoventions East, at least four Millennium Torches, Odyssey, Test Track, The Land (entry sign, Soarin' entrance, the balloons), Wonders of Life (Base of the removed DNA Tower), Germany Pavilion (St. George slaying Dragon), Morocco Pavilion (Towers, the Camel, one of the mosaics), Japan Pavilion (Bonsai, Samurai statue, Tsunami painting), Canada Pavilion (Mill Stage, Victoria Gardens), China Pavilion (Gates, Terracotta soldier minatures, bamboo signage), Norway Pavilion (Stave Church, the waterfall)

Animal Kingdom
Gyms: Expedition Everest
PokeStops: Tree of Life
Oddities: For some reason, Little Red and Camp Minnie Mickey's old fishing hole vignette are still on the maps as Pokestops despite them having been long gone/rendered inaccessible

Hollywood Studios
Gyms: The Great Movie Ride, Tower of Terror

Disney Springs

Oddities: Pleasure Island sign that's been long gone listed as a Pokestop

Little Red is in a backstage area.

They TRIED to cater to casuals, unsuccessfully though. Casuals don't have a loyalty to Nintendo, or anybody, they choose the game system that's right for them. In this case, XBOX and Sony have delivered a better product. At this point, nostalgic fans of Nintendo's franchises are the only people buying the Wii U. Not to mention, marketing. The marketing for the Wii U was/is extremely misguided. Instead of focusing on all of its gimmicky features (who's going to surf the web on a console? Nobody), they should have focused the marketing on a few of its useful features (of which there are plenty) and embracing what sets it apart from Sony and XBOX.

So yes, they TRIED, but swung-and-missed, spun around, and landed on their butts.

I think they learned though. The NX looks promising.

I never heard of this until recently, but apparently my 20 year old son is into it. I sent him the video and he replied that he was already planning on it! LOL Thanks.

Well, now that this thread is in chit chat I can say this. My biggest hope for Pokémon GO is that it pushes people to play the real Pokémon games. With Sun & Moon coming out in November, GO is a perfect advertisement.

I haven't bought a Pokemon cartridge game since Ruby/Sapphire. I was right at the right generation (middle school) for R/B/Y and G/S/C. Those were THE games for me and by the time I was in high school and R/S/E came out, I felt the game was becoming too spread-sheet-y (if that makes sense). I've followed the new Pokemon and the games and the regions and the mechanics, but haven't played the games in forever. The pinnacle of the series, to me, was G/S/C, but I accept Gen III Pokemon into the family. All the future 'mons are too Johnny-Come-Lately...

THEN ALONG COMES A SPIDER

I have been reliving the nostalgia of the original 151 in Pokemon Go, and remembering some of my favorites, and yeah it's bad y'all. I am even waiting for the Bluetooth-enable peripheral thing that will be out soon. And now I am even considering both buying a 3DS and Sun/Moon when it comes out in November... ugh. Apparently, the Pokemon bug never died, just went dormant for a while....
