Pre-Trip "Please don't get locked out of the hotel room naked again!" - A quick pre-trip report

Hey all. So, we leave for the world on Thursday morning for the "days that dare not speak their name" on this board, but let's just say that there will be lots of red shirts involved. We are not going to any of the big parties this year, because my partner thinks we are getting too old. Grrrr.

Oh wait. I am getting ahead of myself.

Here are the participants.

Me and Phil (or Phil and I?) - we don't look too old to go to parties do we? Sheesh! Give us a rocking chair.

Actually, now that I'm looking at that picture, it does look like I have no teeth in my head but I assure you that I have an entire mouth full of molars and bicuspids and so on.......so I should be able to go to the parties, dammit! But Phil says no. Grrrrrrrrrr..........I'm not sure how I am going to feel on Friday night when every other self-respecting gay --- errrr --- I mean every red shirt wearing boy in America is at Beach Ball at Typhoon Lagoon and I am having a polite dinner at Biergarten before retiring to my room.

Well....it might not end up quite that way. I have few tricks up my sleeve.

Anyway, here are the current plans:

Staying at Boardwalk Villas - check in on June 4

Arriving in Orlando at around 1:30

Car service to the world with 1/2 hour grocery stop (we told them we need to stop at a grocery store that is adjacent to a liquor store - are you getting the idea what this report will be like?)

A few fast passes in Epcot followed by dinner at California Grill at 9:20 PM, because nothing says I love Disney more than dropping $300 on a meal (I am not rich - I have been saving for this trip for a year). I still cannot believe we are going to do this, but I need to just get over it and enjoy my $40.00 chicken, dammit.

June 5 plans -

Breakfast in room - Phil forced me to get a 1 bedroom villa, even though it is too much space for two people, and insists on breakfasts in the room- more on that later. I made him pay the upcharge from studio to one bedroom.

Today will be MGM day. I am expecting enough crowds between the days that dare not speak their name and Star Wars Weekends to send me straight into the booby hatch, but here are our reservations:

Lunch: Brown Derby - I wanted Prime Time, but Phil had a bad experience last time we went, when a family next to us let their three kids run wild over to our table, entertaining us with their drawings, stories, etc. I thought it was cute but Phil did not. We ended up basically babysitting their kids through the entire meal while the parents sat and ate in peace. Phil won't go back even though I assured him that was an isolated incident. Grrrr.

Afternoon - we scored a coveted spot at the Rebel Hanger at 4:30. Can't wait.

Evening: It should be Beach Ball at Typhoon Lagoon ----oh wait...maybe I am an old grandpa. I think the 20-something whipper-snappers are now calling it Riptide. I want to go. Too bad Phil thinks we might break a hip. ARRRRGGGHHH.

But anyway, the plan tonight is dinner at Biergarten and Illuminnations. If I don't get to go to Beach Ball a/k/a Riptide, I am going to drink so many beers at Biergarten that it is going to make BuzzKillington's head pop right off of his body and roll into the lake.

Annnnyway........moving along......

Saturday the 6th is the red shirt day at the Magic Kingdom. We have a breakfast planned at Chef Mickey's that I am still freaked out about. It was my idea, but every video I have seen about this place looks like Romper Room on steroids. I do not know if there are enough breakfast cocktails in the world. But Phil insists that since we have never been, we need to go. This is from the person who was annoyed by the kids bothering him the previous trip at Prime Time Cafe. See what I'm dealing with?

Anyway, after that, it is on to the Magic Kingdom, which will obviously be incredibly crowded with our red shirted bretheren......and siterethren (is that a word?).......

Phil does not do well in crowds. I'm thinking we won't be here for long.

We have a 2:30 reservation at Be Our Guest, and Phil pitched a fit that we had to decide what we wanted to eat for lunch a month in advance. I made a video about that little experience and it is on here somewhere - not sure where.

Again, there are a few fast passes, and then I know I am getting dragged back to the resort.

Dinner that night is Ohana. 9:30. I hear that we will probably not be seated until 10 or so, but we'll see. Magic Kingdom is open until 2am so that will be interesting to see how getting to bed at 3am or so works out for:

Sunday June 7 - Drink around the world day!!!

Again, there are parties today that I am not allowed to attend. But in this case, Phil is probably right. Drinking around the world plus an extra party is a recipe for disaster. Especially since the Tony Awards are tonight. I work in theater, and so we want to be back in the room by 8PM to see the show. We are debating doing take out dinner, an early dinner at EPCOT (we have a tentative res), or ordering room service. We will see.

Monday June 8 - The days that dare not speak their name are over so this is just a recovery day. We decided that we will go to both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Assuming that I do not get sunburned to the point that I need to be hauled to the ER, we will go to our ADR at Via Napoli that night at 8:30.

And that is the skeleton on which we are going to hang the insanity.

I will post a trip report when we return. I am still trying to find the best app for iphone6 that allows you to pause a video on a phone and then continue filming later rather than a bunch of individual videos. If anyone has any tips, I would be very grateful.

The sad part is that a week from today, it will all be over and I'll be sitting right where I am now. Well, hopefully. As long as the plane stays in the sky and there are no disasters. Hey, maybe it won't be such a bad thing if i am sitting here a week from today after all.

Anyway, I hope to post a full trip report upon our return.

And thanks to everyone on this board for being so cool and friendly and just plain awesome. Cheers!!

Have fun! Looking forward to reading the report! Enjoy California Grill- it is expensive- but I think the food is above and beyond, so the price tag won't sting as much when you're in food coma heaven! And the drinks are pretty tasty (I recommend the Sake Martini and The Monte Ray). Plus the fireworks view bonus!

Have a great trip :)

What a fun trip you have planned! Just remember to try and leave a bit of room for spontaneity; you may end up changing a "scheduled" plan or two, here and there. Vacations are for enjoyment and relaxation, so just go with the flow. I got a chuckle out of Phil's more laid back approach, versus your more high energy shenanigans! :p It sounds like the two of you are a good balance to each other's personality! :)
