Ok..So I'am enjoying reading Oor wee Figgys trip report and I got to wonder a couple of things..Have you ever planned a vacation that back fired on you..Maybe the ADRs of the trip were a big let down..Or the resort wasn't as good as the last one you stayed at..Maybe the month you picked was hectic with more people than you expected. And one more thing I want to ask all of you that have been more than a few times..Was your last trip the best ever.? :)

Our 2007 family grand gathering was a disaster. Mother in law and sister in law stayed at POFQ, one brother in law stayed at Pop Century another stayed at the Saratoga Springs and we stayed at the Contemporary. Just trying to get together and agree on anything was a nightmare. Our last trip was our best where we stayed at the Grand Floridian, ate at all of our favorite restaurants and got to see all of our favorite attractions. Hopefully our next trip we be as good.

I'm happy to say I've never had a Disney trip that I would say back fired on me. Maybe because I put so much time into planning it ahead of time ( no surprises ) and I know what I want and what to expect. I have been on trips where the crowd calendars were off on some days by a bit and there were more jammed lines than I was expecting. But I managed around it. And sometimes the weather wasn't as perfect as the forecast was predicted, but thats not Disney's fault. And I cant say the last trip was the best ever, I'll reserve that for the first trip with my wife and son, cause nothing matches the first time I got hit with the magic of the place... But each trip I do more and add more to increase the fun element.

I have yet to plan a large family vacation for that reason alone. Plus I am the only expert of the group so them continuously asking me what next would drive me to drink!
I love the trips when it is just my mom and I or just my husband and I.
One year we took four other family members so it wasn't that huge of a group, and like you said, the agreeing and coordinating was just too much for me, especially since I was the only one who knew anything.

Well I would never say something completely back fired and the trip was awful, every visit to WDW was great. But I've had a few let downs. Last year we stayed at Art of Animation, which was a huge mistake. Because it was brand new, it was PACKED with little kids. Everywhere. We had a hard time hearing each other speak over all the crying and screaming in the mornings trying to eat breakfast before we headed to the parks. It was crazy. We should have expected that though, of course, because it was new.
And then we've had a few restaurant let downs, but who hasn't?

That was part of the problem with this past trip. We went with four other people, and the coordinating was awful. I'm not the only one in the group who knows my way around the parks (the three of us were on our 12th trip, and the four of them were on their 4th trip or so). But even so, I'm definitely the most knowledgeable when it comes to Disney, not to sound cocky or anything. But whenever I gave my opinion, it was thrown out the window because "I want to do that, it won't be a long line!" Then it turns out you wait 70 minutes for the Little Mermaid when it could've easily been avoided by listening to me.

Going with other people can be fun (this was our third time going with these people), but planning is awful. Just listen to me and everything will be okay! :D

Thank you @real mad hatter for taking the time to read my tr. I am quite lucky to say I've never had a bad day at Disney let alone a whole trip. The worst thing that ever happened was a bad meal this trip that Guest Services more than made up for! I think the fact that I plan well and go in with a good attitude is what makes having a really great trip super easy! May you soon get to have a most magical time there soon with much pixie dust and love!

We have never really had a " bad" trip to DW. The only bad thing that happened on my birthday trip a couple of years ago made me sad for a couple of days down there. I called my Mom to check on my sick grandmother and found out she had died that day. The funeral was going to be while we were still at DW so we were going to miss it. My Mom was really great. She told me that I couldn't do anything so to have a good time for my grandma. So after crying and getting that out of the way, I remembered the good times with her and tried to be happy the rest of the trip.:(
Other than that time, we have always had a magical time in the world!!:) I especially enjoy the trips with just my DH.

I think attitude has a lot to do with it. With that said, it is very easy to get upset and freak out and ruin a whole trip because you work sooo hard planning and wanting every detail of the trip to be perfect. The quicker you relax, let the pixie dust work its magic and just enjoy the moment the better. Large groups of people can be frustrating, but as long as you just communicate and do what you want to do and don't feel obligated to spend every moment with the whole group it can be fun. We went as a family of 7, 3 couples (my parents, my brother and his wife, and me and my husband) and my 78 year old grandmother. I had moments where I got frustrated b/c I felt people weren't listening and that I wasn't going to fit everything in (it was my first trip). Then I just remembered where I was and that everyone had different expectations and that was okay. It turned out to be so awesome that my love of Disney World has grown into what it is. Every trip is different and that is the beauty of it.

I have to admit, our trip in February was great. Not sure I can pick a favorite. Something special seems to happen every trip.

Not a big fan of family travel. In October we will be a party if 15. Thankfully we are staying at GF while all others at CB. We have a buffer

Never had a bad trip, but the last one in October was not what I expected.

We went with extended family, some proved to be more enjoyable than others. We rented a house off property and all stayed together, NEVER AGAIN! Besides being with family constantly for 10 days, which was way too much, the trips back and forth were a lot for the kids after long days at WDW. Lesson learned on that one, next trip with the kids we are booked at Boardwalk. Also, October was much too hot for the little ones, so this trip is in January. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

But of course the trip was not all bad. It was my kids first time ever at Disney World and I will never forget the excitement they had at meeting the characters especially Winnie the Pooh and Tigger.

Our first trip was so unprepared. We didn't realise just how big WDW was..We knew very little, but then we thought it was just another place to visit...Then the magic took over me and I was hypnotised into a world of fantasy, and since then, every trip gets more magical, and last years was the best ever..We ( sorry i mean myself ) had done so much planning and research,I was giving out advice to other holiday makers on a daily basis ( much to the annoyance of my DW ) But my next trip ( whenever ) will be even better as I've learnt so much from all you magical people from this site...;)
