Pirates of the Caribbean

I just heard a rumor that my favorite attraction, Pirates of the Caribbean, has closed for the entire summer. Is this true. If so, why would they choose the busiest season, summer, for refurbishments. What are they adding if anything? If true, I will delay my trip.

Kept it open over spring break so they probably looked at it being the least impact given the downtime duration it needs, even though it seems odd to close it during such a time, but it definitely needed it...

That ride breaks down all the time, it broke down while I was on it a few weeks ago and was down for more than 10 minutes. Unfortunately the family in front of me was a 1st Visit family with a 2 year old and when it stopped we were at the pirate skeleton steering the ship scene. Holy crap that child was terrified, I bet that haunts her for the rest of her life. It needs to be fixed properly, I'm glad they took it down to do so.

Good idea. Delaying the trip over one attraction is a good plan, because, really, there is nothing else there to do.

Maybe that ride is the one thing they don't want to miss. I understand their point, we always check if it is open and if it is down we do DL instead... But for us we live pretty much perfectly between WDW and DL so it doesn't really matter much which one we do from a logistics standpoint.

If the entire trip is based on one ride, then OP is missing out on the true joy of a WDW trip. We have gone following a medical procedure, did not ride a single ride, and still had a wonderful trip. It is what you make of it I suppose. Personally, the issue of one, or even multiple rides being down for rehab while I am there is basically meaningless to the overall enjoyment of the entire trip, as there is so much more to the trip than rides. Of course, some people think it is all about rides. Some people know it is not. Some people complain about the rain while others give thanks for it. There is room for both.

The thing is one could postpone until the cows come home. There is no guarantee that any ride will be functioning on the day that one happens to go there. I brought a friend there a few years back because she wanted to see HM. So did I for that matter, but, as luck would have it, they were having mechanical difficulties the only day that we were scheduled to be in MK. I felt bad, but, it really didn't define my overall trip, just a minor disappointment.

My biggest disappointment ever was at HM during my first and only visit to Disneyland. I really wanted to see the difference, if any, between DL's HM and WDW's HM. The weeks before I got there it was shut down to do the cheesy overlay for Nightmare before Christmas. That was one closure that just wasn't necessary, but, none the less I had the distinct displeasure of riding through that cardboard cutout mess instead of the good ole HM.

We are all different and for some it is all about the rides, they don't "think" it is... don't put your own values on someone else... If someone truly finds a particular ride to the highlight of their trip then so be it.. People could just as easily say that some people know it is all about the rides and other people just think that it isn't.
To be honest you can find better a lot of things Disney offers that are better outside of Disney... the characters and rides are really the only thing you can't get elsewhere.

Enjoy the rides.

We've missed favorites due to refurb (Splash and TTA come to mind) but there is so much to do that you "forget" anyway. Go ahead and wait if POTC is your favorite ride, but if it's not- Just enjoy the summer!

It went down when we were on it twice in May... I really needed some love. Taking it down in Summer puts it back online for the week between Christmas and NYE, when they are at super max attendance. And then it's good for winter when they take the usual attractions off-line for their normal cleaning.
