I was just reading about Photopass photographers being replaced with automated box cameras at WDW. Has anyone heard about this potentially spreading westward? Please tell me that there isn't a plan for this at Disneyland.

It doesn't need to spread westward. They already removed Photographers from a bunch of meet and greets.

At least the product is far more reasonably priced at DLR.

Disney has 3 avenues to go with this:

1. listen to the criticism and make immediate changes

2. Ignore people and assume everyone will get used to it over time. Damn the bad publicity cause they are saving peanuts 🥜 (in the grand scheme of things) and that makes people in offices and suits happy

3. See if photo pass purchases actually plummet and react accordingly to that information. Damn the reputation hit, the less people employed the better is what they feel.

Unfortunately all corporations think of how to remove staff without ing off customers. So some combination of 2/3 will likely occur.

A major factor in how it would work at Disneyland is where the meets are set up. For the boxes to work it has to be in a fixed indoor location so they can keep the lights and sets in a fixed controllable position. It can't be outdoors because of changing lighting as the sun moves, clouds come and go, and other weather plays a role. That limits it to just a handful of spots in Disneyland, and those spots may or may not be worth the investment.

The other thing is that even though both coasts use the same name and variations of the same system, they are essentially independant of each other. So just because one does something, that doesn't mean the other will.
