This is pretty much what i understand,

Yellow = Bridge and pedestrain corridor leading to main plaza.
Red area = anything within this red area is pretty much up for grab and demolition for proper future park development
green area = the roadways used for the toy story shuttles and possibly the drop off area now enclosed and within the secured zone and used for toy story shuttle drop off only. These guests have already been pre-screened at the oy story lot.

View attachment 352607

what i do not understand is why even have the toy story buses drop guests off here and have the need for another security check point? Why not just have the buses exit the toy story parking lot like they do now and go up clementine and go directly into the new security zone that will be built. The distance the buses will travel will be much shorter allowing for faster turn around times. Buses would be completely eliminated from having to cross Harbor BLVD which will still carry plenty of tourist crossing DIsney way to access the new pedestrian walkway that will lead to the new gateway.

Is it to split the amount of traffic away from the eastern gateway in regards to the amount of shuttles that could create a bottleneck entering and exiting the new area?

Pretty much, one key point is the size of the bridge and the amount of people per hour it is designed for. By splitting the volume of people, you can stay under the current rating of about 20,000 guests. (Remember, PEAK hour), to widen the bridge costs a lot, not just in the bridge, but the size of the landings, and needed emergency exits needed on each end. Heck, what happens if a over-sized vehicle runs into the bridge? Where will the people go? Well, that green bus loading area suddenly becomes an escape path, and then at Disney Way, the APD can direct vehicle/pedestrian traffic to let folks head to the Pumbaa Parking Structure.

And yes, the amount of vehicles on Manchester is also an issue. The corner of Disney Way and Clementine will be a LOT busier, with it being the main access to/from Pumbaa and the I-5.

Since Disney has to pay for all APD traffic control, they want to work with the city to reduce the traffic issues. The city pretty much mandates where the entry/exit points will be to private property, and Disney will have to pay for any street modifications that the city wants. You are seeing that at Cleo and how Disney has not changed any access points to/from the M&F/Cleo area. Any change would have required city approval, and when the project was designed, Disney KNEW that wasn't going to happen.

so that does mean that this area is getting a covering?

I just hope it doesn't make the section feel cavernous. there is something about the rest of the eating area that make it feel too enclosed and dark. Although i would be glad to see another area that would eliminate those annoying umbrellas that seem to be popping up everywhere in the resort. Sometimes umbrellas work and sometime they look tacky

Yeah I was looking at the park Monday on the Mark Twain and thought “bye bye Umbrellas.” I’m pretty sure it’ll look better but I do have a thing for umbrellas. More particularly the ones on Main Street like Plaza Inn and Jolly Holiday. I feel like some of the more classic DL pictures of my family and others were taken in those areas.

Just one of those Disneyland things that have nothing to do with theme but just say Disneyland to me.

i do agree that the ones in those areas fit the theme, i think the ones they have scattered around the parks look tacky but at the same time i understand they are needed in some areas to help keep the excessive sun from castmembers working ODV
