Parking fees at Resorts

I am a huge opponent of this relatively new fee aka tax placed upon The “local” clients(Floridians especially) and the driving population to Walt Disney World. While they continue to raise entry fees, food prices, room rates, soon to be pay for Fast passes.... they decide to charge a fee to park at the resort..... so I asked a reservation specialist, Does Disney discount my rate for not using the Magical Express from the airport, I was told no. So why is Disney trying to charge to park my car on property that was paid for by Walt Disney 40 plus years ago?????
The answer: greed. The magic is fading ladies and gentleman. It feels like Gordon Gecko is running Disney lately..... very sad.

Welcome to the club. It's a shame your outrage wasn't available last year when they announced the parking fee.

But don't cool down -- many fully expect an announcement on the imposition of resort fees any day now...

Larry,
I apologize for not getting involved sooner!!! I am sincere about this. This is a total disgrace! Shame on Disney for even trying this! They should refund everyone those fees!
They had better retract those fees! What a slap in the face!

@firemanL25 If you use the search feature on the forums and the key words parking fees, you'll find several threads of people who are equally upset about the fees. Several of us contacted Disney and shared our phone call experiences. The conversations basically went no where.

Sadly, it seems more likely that new resort fees will be added, vs removal of the parking fees.

But, welcome to the forums!

Thank you for the welcome.
The corporation seems to have become deaf to its clientele. This will hurt them. Maybe not right this second but someday. I just wanted to get it out there again. If people don’t complain and keep complaining, then management believes they’ve gotten away with it. A nasty gram from every person once a month will keep their attention

If they complain and keep booking the resorts anyway, it won't matter. You need to make your voices heard by not going.

Welcome to the boards......

or what?? Remember the outrage when airlines began charging baggage fees? I'm old enough where I remember and then what happened? I remember when that use to be Southwest airlines claim to fame that they had no baggage fees, but now they have raised their prices significantly.
fast forward, now the airlines have a myrid of fees. sit in an aisle seat? extra. upgrade your boarding pass? extra

Now IMO the thing is Disney was the very last to the world of parking fees so no one is upset about them. In fact most people are shocked if you can book a hotel (not motel) without a parking fee.

Now of course someone will say how Disney is supposed to be "above" that and do things differently which I still don't get because Disney is a corporation, they will go along with industry "standards".

Disney is not going to refund those fees nor change their policy because they have absolutely no reason to. Hotels are still full and if you travel just about any popular vacation destination resort/parking fees are common so I'm going out on a stretch and say many of today's first time visitors wouldn't bat an eye. look at it this way, folks who are already dropping 5K on their vacation are not going to howl at an additional 200 bucks from fee.

Nothing to do with greed, just allocation of pricing to socially engineer its guests and get the expected outcome that they want. Trust me, a corporation is as aggressive as it can be with prices, don't worry about that. If they wanted to give away free parking, and make wash and wax your car for free too, they can and will... but you'll never an uptick in everyone's ticket prices, or they'll tack it onto the price of the hotel.

Think of it as you requesting for a reimbursement to park, and the park preferring to give a discount to those who can find other ways in. You can probably imagine that Disney does not keep enough parking spots on campus (including the resorts, hotels, waterparks, water treatment plants, parks, corporate offices) if EVERY park guest, employee, and contractor drove their OWN car and expected it to be sheltered by the park. So as an incentive to minimize the risk of running out of spots, you give people a reward for carpooling, taking a bus, Ubering, walking, etc. by not paying $25, and in the case of carpooling, only paying $25, and not paying her person.

Obviously in the case of the hotels, its the same logic. They're more than happy to accommodate your car, but they're much happier with you if you find a more practical way to get to the park.

One of the most precious economic resources that we have is land -- maybe the most precious resource. Disney could buy up more and more land around it to accommodate your precious cars, but that would be difficult and prohibitive. Plus, parking lots filled with cars are kind of ugly -- it goes against the image that it wants to portray.

So that's my lesson to you on why its important for parks like Disney to charge appropriately for the privilege to park.

The parking fees can justifiably be seen as being "greedy." Though it's billed more as Disney trying to control the volume of vehicles on property with finite limits on capacity. I don't like them anymore than anyone else (and honestly, am not affected as I make a point of not having a car or dropping off the rental upon arrival). The tiered approach to pricing though, leaves a bad taste in my mouth and makes me less inclined to believe this is an altruistic attempt at going green, if you know what I mean.

Now, if Disney decides to raise those parking fees and/or implement resort fees... All bets are off... Greedy, greedy indeedy!

I really dislike the term, "greed", as it relates to a business. A for-profit company has a primary goal of making profit. You can argue the ways of making profit, but greed is not a term I would use in the argument.

Don't get me wrong - I do not agree with any of the reasons Disney have given to justify the parking fees, nor do I like the fees. But, I am booked for four trips this year and understand the extra fees are something that I cannot avoid if I want to stay on property.

Not looking to change anyone's mind on the use of the term, just sharing my opinion.

D. J., I totally agree with you. Let me explain further. My wife and I booked a small stay cation at Port Orleans Riverside. It was like staying at a motel 6 with slight Disney theming. I did NOT attach a credit card to my reservation! They were unable to collect their “tax” for parking at the resort. Staff at 1:30 AM and 2:45 AM called and let messages for me to call and arrange payment!!!! The next day at the pool I confronted an Assistant Manager about the “Tax” and the phone calls. He took my name, sent me an email and an invitation to return. In the mean time I emailed my complaints about the fee. Well appparently, Disney is keeping a file on me! No BS! The woman who contacted me back knew all about me and tried to explain the parking fees as another “standard” practice by other resorts and Disney was just following suit. I asked, isn’t Disney better than “following suit” and she said she was sorry..... ☹️. BS!!!!!
We were comped $600.00 that we could use on anything. We just stayed at Yacht Club. They upgraded us too..... nice...... then tried to charge me to park!!!!! Lmao. It’s sooo sad how deaf they have become......

We've made our voices heard by not going in the last 3 years after one or more trips each year since 1996. You know what happened? Prices continued to go up astronomically across the board. Crowds keep getting bigger. Quality of the overall experience keeps going down. Unless a few million people a year vote by not going, Disney Management won't even notice, much less care enough to react.

Unfortunately, prices will continue to increase at dramatic rates till people get the “guilty” conscience out of their head..... meaning. Disney seems to have become a “rite” of passage and if you don’t do it...... you are a bad parent.... seems to be a social issue.... really sad! And Disney is playing this up really well!

A parking fee is not a tax. They disclose fees, just like Swolphin discloses it's resort fee on top of the parking fee. If you don't agree to the fee, don't stay there. Yes, calling your room at that time of day is not right. But you refusing to pay for a parking fee is also wrong. What makes you more special than anyone else who stays there.

I don’t think anyone should be paying this fee. Period. I’m not special, I just think Disney is wringing the water out of the rag. You do not like I didn’t pay. Oh well. Keep paying the fee. Good luck with that thought process.

I don't pay the fee cause I don't park.
