Package Delivery

I know this happened a year or so ago, I just never asked the question before. Does anyone know why they stopped the direct to your room package delivery? It was always so cool coming back to the room and finding a package on your bed. Picking up a package from the hotel gift shop is not as much fun. Sure it is convenient. Who wants to lug stuff all over the park when you don't have to. I miss the old way, coming back to the room and finding your stuff on the bed.

Sorry that I can't answer that...but I'm glad you brought this up because I thought that it was just because I stayed at the moderates and value that they just had pickup at the gift shop and not direct to room delivery. (I thought you had to stay at a Deluxe resort or Home Away from Home resort to get direct to room service)

I don't mean to jump into your thread nansafan but since the name of the thread is Package Delivery...there's no sense in starting another thread...

So, I add another question to this thread...How long should it take a package to get to my house if I had it shipped from WDW? (I live in MA) but...I didn't know what the "timeframe" was...because I'm still waiting for my miniature "Partners" statue.

I'm fairly certain that in concierge you get your packages delivered to your room.

We had to pick stuff up in the gift shop at Wilderness Lodge last January, so I know it's been at least a year.

My guess is budget cutbacks are the reason.

I would think it would also be privacy/security related. It would be very easy for guests seeking to take advantage of a situation to say that a CM took something when they dropped off the gifts or could be embarassing if a CM walked in on a *cough cough* private moment in a room.

I remember reading around here a while back it had to do with security reasons. You know, nowadays, after 9//11, some people may not like having strangers in their room. And I think there was also something along the lines of people saying they hadn't received their items just so they could be reimbursed (sp?)...

As far as I know, I think remember being told shortly after 9/11 that it would become "Resort Delivery" for security reasons.

As for how long the shipping takes... I beleive it was 2-3 weeks after you had it shipped. I had something shipped a few years back (My monorail) and I remember it took awhile. Still, it was better than having to lug everything on the plane. :) Also, I'd imagine with the holidays and whatnot, it might take a lil bit longer.

Hmmm...I purchased it on the 7th...I think I should start to get worried

Yeah Freak... I would be giving them a call soon!

I think the room delivery was stopped for safety reasons first; I personally don´t like having more than one person (the maid) coming into my room. I can see how having to put packages in rooms could get confusing, specially if the guest doesn´t know his room number by heart, or confuses it and then front desk doesn´t double check, or there are two guests with the same last name, or the room is under someone else in the party´s name, etc etc etc. Not to mention mean people complainning they didn´t receive their packages when they really did. This way there is proof they recieved them. See what I mean? :animwink:

Maybe you could get one of the digital imagery wizards we have here to make it wink for ya... :p

Back to the topic at hand... FREAK... Give it about another week... The two holidays right in the middle of the week probably slowed everything down... if you don't have it then, give 'em a call.

WOW!
The Package delivery service is one of the best things Disney does for Resort Guests!

I love buying stuff in the parks and simply saying...."send it to my resort!" I have found it always very timely - it's there when they say it will be!

As far as picking it up in the Gift Shop, I found this to be a great help, as they could then send stuff for me right from there without me having to lug it from the room to the shop!

Delivery from the parks to your home should take no longer than any other delivery! I bought stuff on December 2nd, had it shipped via UPS GROUND from the Resort Gift Shop on the 3rd, and it was at my home on the 10th! Technically, they were only supposed to be doing FED-EX after 12/1, but I knew the Groiund shipping would be there before Christmas.

The Best part is....those ladies that helped me did a MUCH better job at wrapping and boxing up my stuff than I ever would. I have never received anything broken when I let them ship it!

:sohappy:

I was caught off guard by the new system. No one told us to pick up our stuff at the gift shop. To make matters worse, the package never got there. Thankfully they corrected everything before it was time to leave.

Anyways, I was told it was also a matter of cost savings. They were losing money to dishonest people claiming the package never got to their room. This makes sense to some extent. They said there truly was a drop in "lost goods" thus proving that the company wasn't so cynical after all.

And Maria, I agree with the others. Nice avatar! :)

Will do Tyler, thanks :)

Heading for the great escape.
The Resort delivery had started pre Sep 11 because we used it that May. All changes are about cost wether the cost to deliver or addressing guest claims of damage

I can relate, WDWFREAK53. I ordered a shirt the week before Christmas (I believe it was on the 18th) from the Disney Store with "delivery by Christmas" splashed all over the website. Got it today. If you ordered on the 7th, I'd give them a call. Maybe it was out of stock when you ordered, but it wasn't showing yet in their system. Good luck.

Since I started the thread, I'll add something more. My cousin was in the College Program from August, 1998 until sometime in Jan. 1999. He worked at Port Orleans and said that one of the things he enjoyed the most was Room Delivery. They were always instructed to knock first (just like a maid or room service). I miss the room delivery and always will. We too were surprised when in 2000 we had it and summer of 2001 it was Gift Shop pick-up. Oh well, the times they are a-changing. Thanks for all who answered my question.
