Imagineers! You have just completed your first visit to Disneyland. Now it’s time to visit its semi-ugly counterpart, Disney California Adventure. Here you can take a journey around the world, venture into Grizzly River Run, and become a movie star!

-Background Information-
If you didn’t know, Disney California Adventure opened in 2001, and was an immediate flop. It was unlike Disney to build a “hip” and “cool” park. There was no story to it, and the entrance was a big… postcard.

However, one land let you become a “moviestar”, and that was Hollywood Pictures Backlot. In the backlot, you could race from the airport and escape paparazzi to get to your debut movie premiere in Superstar Limo, learn how to draw your favorite Disney Characters, or dine inside your favorite soap-opera.

In 2007 with the announced $1.2 billion expansion project, the Hollywood Pictures Backlot was supposed to get a massive overhaul, bringing new attractions like Toy Story: The Musical, Mickey’s Philharmagic and more to this land. In addition, the Buena Vista Street facades were supposed to continue all the way down to Tower of Terror, bringing the Golden Age of Hollywood to the backlot.

Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, this idea was scrapped and the only Golden Age of Hollywood part is the Red Car Trolley.

Nowadays, this land is called Hollywoodland. It features many vacant buildings with nothing major going on in the land. It's the land most people who visit Disney California Adventure rarely step in.

-Challenge-
Since all the lands in Disney California Adventure got their makeover in 2012 or 2015, it’s time to give Hollywoodland its much needed makeover. We know that Paradise Pier is undoing their whole makeover, but that’s not the point :).

Since the lands are receiving upgrades, refurbish Hollywoodland and make a park jewel! Make it something people flock to go to. Add a ride… or two, and add restaurants and/or shops. Give new facades, knock some buildings down. Whatever! Reinvent this land while including the golden age of California represented.

-Bonus-
After Mad T Party closed, DCA has been lacking some nighttime entertainment. Sure there is World of Color and soon to be Paint the Night, but still something is missing. Add a nighttime experience like Mad T Party anywhere in DCA to be added for Pixar Fest. Breathe some life into this experience and bring the young adult crowd into DCA at night. Complete in one sentence and earn that extra point!

-Rules-
You may use between 1 and 5 sentences and up to 1 image. It’s an entire land you are going to need all the sentences you can get! The deadline is Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 11:59pm EST. Critiques will come following.

EDIT: The competition is now due 3 hours earlier, at 8:59pm EST!

-Please Note-
Critiques may not be posted immediately, since @disney forever and @Disneylover152 will be working on them together. We apologize for the inconvenience.

-Tips-
K.I.S.S. – Keep it simple, silly. Try not to complicate or overthink things too much. It’s a simple, casual competition – there are no eliminations. Propose as you please!

-Judging Criteria-
Creativity- Is it creative?
Detail- Do you make the most of your sentences allotted? Do I understand what your submission is about?
Realism- Is it (generally) realistic? Is it something Disney will/could build? Are there patents related to your submission?
Theme- Does it fit thematically? Does it fit visually?
Originality- Is it original?
Effort- Is effort shown?

-Reminders-
This prompt will be a points prompt. As a reminder, everyone who submits something as well as follows the rules will get 1 point. 3 awards are given for each challenge. The three awards are Bronze (+1 points), Silver (+2 points), and Gold (+3 points). Everyone who submits gets a point, but Bronze, Silver, and Gold winners get additional points.

Check the please note. Your reviews will not come in exactly after the due date.

Follow the rules, posted here!

Good luck everyone! If you have questions, don’t be afraid to ask. Now go imagineer!

The Muppets Take Hollywood

1521865521812.png

Having already been apart of Hollywood Land, the Muppets are back, with a bang!

The first attraction will be the return of MuppetVision 3D to the Sunset Showcase Theatre where it belongs (with a new, updated show featuring more Muppet characters including Walter from the 2011 reboot).

The Hyperion Theatre will get the facade redone to look like the El Capitan Theatre (Or Muppets Theatre as seen above) and replacing the Frozen Show will be a live-action Muppets Show themed similarily to the telethon seen in the film!

With GotG - Mission: Breakout becoming part of a Marvel Land, Hollywood Land is missing an E-ticket attraction; which will be fixed by replacing Mike and Sulley to the Rescue and Stage 17 with a scrapped attraction idea in The Great Muppet Movie Ride where the Muppets lead guests through a Muppets re-creation of many classic Hollywood films.

Lastly, replacing the Studio Catering Co. (and area) will be a replica of PizzeRizzo with actual good Italian food :)p) to have a QS in the area with indoor and outdoor seating.

Bonus: In honour of A Bugs Land closing and Disney loving to capitalise on closing attractions (ala GMR or UoE), A Heimlich Chew Chew Train car will be changed to go down the red car trolley tracks from Buena Vista Street all the way to the entrance of the A Bugs Land.

Does the bonus have to be Pixar? Or is it opening with Pixar fest? I am confused.

The bonus is for you to add a nighttime experience (like Mad T Party) to be added for Pixar Fest. So an experience to be set up for April 13 and be gone on September 4.

To answer if it has to be Pixar- It's Pixar Fest! TRON wouldn't make sense during Pixar Fest. So yes, it does have to relate to Pixar. Movie or Short.

Oh, whoops. I had read your first post wrong too as just opening alongside Pixar Fest as an "adult" thing to go alongside the "kid" stuff of the Pixar fest. Glad you clarified lol

Animation Courtyard

AnimationCourtyard.png

We've been working on making Disney's California Adventure more timeless, more family friendly, and most importantly more Disney, and after the proven success of Pixar Pier and Superhero City, we've almost accomplished our objective, but there's one project that we've kept under the wraps, and today we're proud to present Animation Courtyard, a land where some of your favorite animated characters will come to life, and you'll be able to join them on extraordinary adventures; Hollywoodland will be closing in Spring 2021 for work to begin on Animation Courtyard, which is expected to open in Summer 2023, here's a special peak to the map.

At the entrance of the land, you'll be welcomed by everybody's favorite mouse, Mickey Mouse, whom you'll be able to join for dinner at the House of Mouse, where some of your favorite Disney Junior friends will pop up from time to time, or at Mickey & Minnie's Runway Railway, which is considered by fans to be one of the greatest and most unique attractions ever built at a Disney Theme Park!

As you continue to explore Animation Courtyard, you'll be quick to realize Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue! has been replaced by Ralph Wrecks the Arcade, a high speed coaster that promises to be a one of a kind experience, this adventure will take guests through some of your favorite games, like Sugar Rush and Fix-It Felix Jr., as you help Ralph and Vanellope vanquish a Virus that threatens to destroy the Arcade.

Next up is the former Muppet*Vision 3D theater, which will be used to create a brand new Walt Disney's Animation Academy, where both the young and the not so young ones can learn to draw their favorite characters, discover the story behind their most-liked films, and be inspired by the man who started it all, as One Man's Dream will finally return to the Disneyland Resort, and be showcased within the building.

And finally, the Hyperion theater will receive a brand new show, Coco: Un Musical Poco Loco, which will retell the story of a young musician, whose family has banned music from their household, but when he makes a surprising revelation in Día de los Muertos, he embarks on a musical adventure that will change his life forever; this musical extravaganza will include never heard before songs!

Bonus:
Joining Pixar Fest from April 13 to September 4, a Monsters University themed nighttime spectacular will be available for guests to enjoy at Pixar Pier; don't miss the Monsters Frat Party.

Welcome to Hollywood, take a ride on the Red Car Trolley, grab a great American bite at Flickie's American Cuisine, witness amazing effects as Catastrophe Canyon comes back as a small exhibit replacing Frozen Live, and grab your favorite Marvel and Star Wars pop culture objects at Soundstage 18 Prop Shop! Disney Animation will be replaced by Hot Set Studios, where you can film your own movie, which you can take home with you. Speaking of filming, take a ride on Tram Trouble, a new roller coaster where you speed through a film studio in a super-fast tour tram. Disney Junior Dance Party will be replaced by the Movie Hall Auditorium a large theater where an orchestra plays soundtracks to iconic movies. And behold the crown jewel of Hollywood, The Great Movie Ride shall make its spectacular return!

Bonus- A Monster Celebration, a show that involves the characters from Monsters Inc. having a "battle of the bands' ordeal, guests can vote for the winners on their phones.

Hollywoodland will become Animation Courtyard, featuring Mickey’s & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, a Wreck-it Ralph themed attraction (based on the trailer of the second movie it seems it’s located in Los Angeles), a Coco musical show will be replacing Frozen (Latin culture is part of California). More details soon!

HOLLYWOODLAND

The Golden Age of 1940s Hollywood lives forever at Disney California Adventure as Hollywoodland rededicates itself to the Hollywood that never was and always will be, a romanticized vintage world of starlets, gumshoes, dames and directors.

Travel alongside the interactive Citizens of Hollywood down Hollywood Boulevard, past the Art of Animation building remade to resemble Walt Disney's 1940s era animation studio, towards the revitalized Hyperion Theater, now redesigned inside and out as the fictional "Persian Theater" movie palace (like Grauman's Chinese and Egyptian) and home to the Big Band Revue of 1942, a live musical stage show of swing and jazz featuring Disney characters.

Replacing the MuppetVision courtyard is a Studio Backlot sub-area, home to the hilarious new Silent Cinema Stunt Slaptacular and the thrilling Beebop Blast enclosed coaster, a 1940s version of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster featuring up-tempo period jazz and vintage yellow cabs speeding past forgotten Hollywood landmarks.

Where Monsters Inc. once stood is a lush and inviting Hollywood Hills sub-area, where movie stars retreat to their palatial mansions, and where guests will enjoy the spooky Villa Vortex trackless dark ride, where a faded film actress's enchanted movie projector brings the worlds of movies to life in a whimsical Mystic Manor fashion.

New eateries include Ciro's (an Art Deco nightclub and speakeasy complete with lounge singers) and The Enchanted Palace (table service with live magic shows, inspired by Hollywood's Magic Castle), while new retail includes the Prop Shop and Oswald's of Hollywood.

BONUS
Coco's Fiesta de la Vida
is held nightly during Pixar Fest in the Wine Country Trattoria (newly rethemed to an old Spanish mission), where skeletal mariachis and neon alebrijes bring the night alive with energetic Mexican song and dance.
