One Camera / One Lens

Regardless of my past visits and my experience with photography, this June will be a huge hallmark moment for me… my first visit with my children, they’ll be 5 and 3.

Between now and then I’m exploring a new camera for this trip. I’m leaning towards a Leica Q2 or Q3, with the darkhorse Leica Q3 43. I think 43 is too tight for a Disney trip. 28 might be a touch wide but with 60MP in the q3 there’s some cropping power. I always try to work full frame without cropping, I’ll crop with my feet but given the kids etc I’ll need light and fast, run and gun style of camera.

I would definitely go with the 28. You can zoom with your feet to make the diff to the 43. Wider will give your shots better context, especially outside.

My wife has told me that I am 100% banned for bringing the M11 monochrom. Manual focus / black and white only… doesn’t bode with toddlers lol!

Do yourself a favor and skip the Leica. If you want high pixel ff get a Sony A7rV it wil give you 60mp just like the Q3 only you aren't forced to live with a 28mm lens. Frankly unless you are planning on making bilboard 60mp is serious overkill. I've done trips where I took wide angle primes along with standard and zooms and rarely found the wide angles to be worth it... especially if you are wanting photos of your kids. Beyond that, consider that when you take a Leica into a huge tourist trap like Disney your little red dot is a beacon to thieves to target you. I've a few Leicas but never taken any to Disney, at most I've just taken some Leica lenses and used them on a Sony cameras and lived with manual focus which still worked fine.
