Old news now but....(SGE news)

Just got home from what amounted to a 30-day vacation. Actually, got home on the 30th but haven't had time to post till now.

Anyway, I was in Florida from July 29 to August 10, as many of you well know from my old, whiny posts about the attraction opening. ;)

THE attraction: Stitch's Great Escape.

Well, it wasn't open. As expected. So it really didn't take us by surprise but it WAS interesting watching the construction of the queue area.

Firstly, we didn't actually get into Tomorrowland until July 31. On that day they had the construction wall between the queue and Merchant of Venus pushed pretty far back. You could see all the way back to those doors behind Merchant. I sneaked back there to see if I could see anything but no such luck.

Rode the TTA that day and saw that the XSTech sign was still up. Tried to take a picture but it didnt turn out. No major work appeared to be being done to the queue.

After that we were in the MK on alternating days. I think it was around..oh...August 5 or so (somewhere around there) that the XSTech sign finally came down. The day afterwards, they started MAJOR construction on the queue. They broke up the pavement and passing overhead on the TTA we observed what LOOKED LIKE them putting stones into the wall. There were buckets of what I think was paint, stacked up against the wall. Tons of them.

Over the course of the trip the construction wall was pushed forward as well. By August 6 you could no longer see the doors behind Merchant of Venus. They had walled them off. And by the time we left on the 10th the wall was enclosing much more area than it had when we arrived.

The queue was still in the process of being torn up.

We did not stay long enough to see the addition of the replacement signs for SGE.

With luck, and I do mean luck, I can go back to Florida in late October or sometime in November depending on how quickly I can find work. But it was interesting watching construction of the outside areas progress.

As far as an opening date, I got into a conversation with several cast members at Merchant of Venus and word on the street is that they're currently having some software problems with the animatronic. These could have the potential to delay the official opening until mid-November.

Cast members I spoke with said that they've been instructed to tell people, when asked about the opening of the ride "November". Perhaps as a precaution in case opening is delayed.

I'm not sure how much of that you guys already know. But there you have it. Hmmm, I was on the TTA the same day as Sean judging by the SGE news section, hows that for a coincidence. :D

Oh no, of course not! I was absolutely blown away by how much there is to do in WDW!!!

I mean no offense to Disneyland of course, which I visit annually, but there just really isn't much of a comparison between the two. I went to Disneyland for a week immediately following the Florida trip, in fact I was in DL when Charley hit. Had just left florida.

Overall, the sense of going from WDW, to Disneyland...was utter surprise. Before going to WDW I never believed people who said that DL was in less-than-perfect condition. After being at WDW for 13 days, I can now fully understand and agree with that claim. I'm glad they're refurbishing much of the park for the 50th.Tomorrowland in MK is beautiful. But tomorrowland in DL is really in sad shape. It's kind of shocking to see for someone who's loved DL their entire life...to see that contrast.

Another thing is I found Florida a lot more "warm" and I don't mean the weather! I mean the people. Florida's cast members were so outgoing and seemed happier for some reason. And STITCH was everywhere...mascots in MK, AK, and MGM, and all of them very much into the part. The one in MGM got a very emotional tribute from our group. I won't go into detail on that here but let's say a lot of tears were shed the day we met him.

I can't wait to go back. I'd like to make Florida instead of DL the annual thing for me now. It's so much more fun there.

It also, I think, had an effect on my personally as I'd like to look into CP now and possibly become a WDW cast member down the road. I think that's "the one place I belong".

Major drawback to WDW: Bus transportation. Highly inefficient sometimes esp. when the busses were running every 30 min from MK on the day we had to catch a flight out. We just missed the bus had to wait 30 min and missed the airport shuttle and got to the airport with about 30 minutes to spare tioll departure. Made it by the skin of our teeth we did. Yeah, JUST GETTING from hotel to park or park to park can waste half your entire day!

Next time, some better planning will be in order, now that we know what to expect on the Disney bus system.

Anyway this is off topic but it was a WONDERFUL trip I can't wait to go back!

Our group took it pretty well. We knew well in advance (thanks to you guys) that it wouldn't be open, so when we got there, there weren't any tears shed. Of course we were all disappointed but how disappointed can you really be when you knew it wouldn't be open and there was no way to change the dates?

You just, make the best of what you have. And we did. We had a blast at WDW and can't wait to go back.

So, if it's not software issues affecting the animatronic as I was told, then what's the delay supposedly about?

Anyway, I figured you guys probably had heard November by now but that's what I heard in WDW too from the CM's at Merchant of Venus.

Useless trivia:

During our entire 13-day stay at Disney World, how many "rude" cast members did I encounter?

A: One.

Mission: SPACE

I'm hearing November too, from management.

Sofware issues weren't the delay with Stitch. It has to do with the Imagineers being forced to go 'on the cheap'. I don't want to get into the issue, because it's not really something that I feel comfortable giving too much information out... It essentially has to do with the financial end of the company trying to save money, and it turned out what they approved didn't meet certain quality standards...

"Certain quality standards?" Yikes. I won't ask you to go into detail, but I hope that they've realized their mistake and this isn't going to be another JIYA.

Which means that guest safety might be a part of it?

I am curious for more details on this but I don't expect you to talk about it publicly. And understand why you wouldn't.

My email is alohacooldude@yahoo.com if you feel comfortable chatting off the record. If not, that's fine too.
