To me it is a ride park. It is only a half a day park. Now with EE it has everyone coming there for it. Now with the Nemo show you are going to get all the younger kids coming to the park. More if any, kids from before the ride opens.

It all depends on your preference and what you like. I know people who prefer not to go just because it seems like a waste of time and there are no rides. I however enjoy the park because the rides they have a really well done, as well as in my opinion, it's oneof the best themed parks Disney has ever built.

If your upset about people not liking Animal Kingdom, I know people who don't like Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and MGM, so again, it all depends on your own personal preference.

well obviously there are ppl who don't like it, same as there are people who don't like disney. but most disney fans like AK, i do. i feel as if it's only a half a day park for two reasons, 1 not enough big attractions. 2. they close at what 6 or 7. but no i believe most ppl like it, and just believe it needs more things to do.

The problem with most of the people that think there is not "enough to do" is that the vast majority of these people dont consider relaxing and enjoying the theming and scenery as something to do. DAK can be a very relaxing park...same way that World Showcase at Epcot can be relaxing.

It just depends on the person. I for one enjoy the park.

Right, it depends on which character you relate to most in the WDW Planning Video.

Are you a Dave, Erin, Stacey, or Luke?

Definately Dave. Luke repulses me.

I kinda already knew that!

It was more of a rhetorical question for everybody.

Funny, Luke really didn't bother me in the video though. He kinda rounded out the cast and added a little over the top humor.

I personally wouldn't mind skipping AK...I think it's a great park but I would prefer to do it without kids (not an option for me :) ). It is more relaxed and the post that compared it to World Showcase is dead on...defininetly a "slow down" kind of thing. BTW, World Showcase is something I'd love to do as a couple or with a group of big people.

Last time we did AK we did the Safari ride and as we walked in the sign indicated a 15 minute wait. Well, it must have flipped to 90 minutes right after we went in because that has got to be the longest, most excruciating queue I've ever waited in. DH finally pitched a fit and didn't they offer to express us to the front? At that point it didn't matter because we were in the home stretch and decided to just stay where we were...I was mortified at the scene (it wasn't a huge scene, mind you, but I'm big on rule following) but I did find it interesting..the old squeaky wheel analogy.

My long-winded 2 cents.

It's interesting how your perception changes too. The first time we visited the AK was back in the late '90s. It was also the first time I had taken my family to WDW, and the kids were very excited and (I admit) I was even more so. We ended up very focused on hitting big rides, and there were very few at the AK. We spent over two hours at Conservation Station and couldn't get out! Who wanted to look at animals? Not us! We left very disappointed. The next year we returned and skipped it entirely. The NEXT year (now WDW pros) we decided to go back and REALLY enjoyed it! There wasn't anything new really, but our attitudes had changed. We didn't feel any longer that we had to pound the pavement and just hit the "biggies", but we took our time and try to appreciate the theming, the shows, and the street entertainment. We talked to the keepers. We saw Flights of Wonder. We got caught in the rain. Now on our annual trips we never miss going to the park. It still is a "half day" park to us, but we combine it with something else, or just take the evening off. (It's usually only open to 5 or 6 anyway).

So my advice? If you have enough days to devote to WDW so that you aren't frantic to NOT MISS ANYTHING (LOL!)....AND you have the attitude to appreciate one of the most unique and beautiful theme park experiences anywhere, you should go. It is unlike anything else around. The attractions that they do have are pretty spectacular. The Lion King show is amazing. Flights of Wonder is very interesting. But the place is huge (lots of walking between few attractions), it's extremely hot and humid during warmer months (It always reminds me of a rainforest hike in Hawaii) due to the huge number of plants everywhere, and some of the "attractions" are really long walking trails with animal exibits, similar to (though much more creative) many local zoos. I think if you have the right mind set you will really enjoy the park. If you are focused on the Magic Kingdom kind of atmosphere....you will be very disappointed. If you park hop, combine it with an additional evening in another park, or have a nice dinner out and spend the evening by the pool at your hotel. This year we are leaving at about 4:00 and going over to MGM to have dinner and see Fantasmic.

The park is a lot better than it was when it first opened. Everest is a major land mark and if more attractions like this are opened in the future it will soon evolve into a full day park

Another AK fan here

The people that dislike the park seem to be the sort that believe theme parks = rides, end of story. If you are not on a moving platform it's not a ride. Much of Animal Kingdom's attractions lie elsewhere - watching shows, looking at the animals, drinking in the environment and being able to eat something that is not ground beef in a bun.

I think this dovetails with Disneyfanman's comments "..our attitudes had changed. We didn't feel any longer that we had to pound the pavement and just hit the "biggies", but we took our time and try to appreciate the theming".

There are lots of people who enjoy the park, but there are lots of people who enjoy taking cheap shots at things others enjoy.

I for one agree that is is probably the best themed Disney park to date, everything looks amazing.....BUT also agree that at present its only half a day. When we go next year we probably wont go.

However with Disney's track record if they keep adding rides of the quality of EE they will get it right eventually:sohappy:

AK is our favorite park. I'm always bemused by the people who are hurrying by as we stop to look for the sloth and giant anteater on the way in. They either rush by behind us, or a few will stop, take a quick look, then say "Nothhing here" and rush to the next "attraction. They don't get the fact that sometimes you have to wait, and watch for a while, to spot some of the animals.

AK is like a fine wine vs a great beer. One is sipped and savored, the other is thrist quenching, but both are equally wonderful, depending upon the circumstances.

I love Animal Kingdom. The whole place just feels fantastic.

The themeing, scenery, animals and attractions really make me feel I am somewhere exotic, strange, exiciting and fun. Absoloutely love it.

Went to Disney World February this year and going again next April. Can't wait to try out Expedition Everest and just again walk around Animal Kingdom. In fact the only park I am not going to go back to is MGM Studios.

I have definitely become more of a DAK fan since I was a CM. Especially with the addition of EE. I used to think of DAK as dull but when you take the time to really look around it really is a beautiful theme park with alot to offer.

And here's an interesting tidbit, it became the #2 most visited park during the HCOE.
