I went to buy a pack of gum @ the Exxon by PI and the clerk said they don't sell gum on the property? Is this true? I find it hard to believe...

Gum is a horrible mess when it gets on the sidewalk since that hot Florida sun will keep it soft and sticky. All those high school and college kids who get stuck in Custodial are very glad that gum is rare at Walt Disney World.

Want proof of why gum shouldn't be sold in amusement parks? Go to a Six Flags and look at any tree unfortunate enough to be growing near a queue pathway. I've seen christmas trees that were less colorfully decorated.

Forget the sidewalks and queues, how about the attractions? Attractions are much more costly to keep clean then a sidewalk that can be powerwashed every night.

I rode Splash Mountain after work yesterday and there is a point where the rock outcroppings are very close to the cars and you could see a few pieces of gun and gum residue. I find it irritating that people will desecrate an attraction just for the h*ll of it.

[End rant] lol

Thanks for bringing this up! I saw that when I was there in June and actually wondered if it was real, even though I KNEW Disney would not have put it there. It was everywhere on the rocks in Splash Mountain.

I for one, am SO glad they do not sell gum anywhere on Disney property!! However, why, why, why do people have to bring it anyways???? I hate when people give the advice to BYOG. Why? Can't you stop chewing for the week or so that you are there??? How adicted are you? Have a mint or something, but keep WDW clean! And don't say "I always throw my gum in the trash", cuz someone MUST have put it on Splash and everywhere else it gets. Maybe your kids, maybe an accidental spit-out, whatever, but it wouldn't happen if you kept it home!

I also heard gum isnt sold at MCO...I have yet to verify this (I keep Forgetting LOL)

I tried buying gum at MCO several years ago and the woman in the gift shop told me they didn't sell any. When I asked her why she looked at me like I was insane and said "The airport is carpeted". :brick:

The airport thing is crazy. Gum really helps me when flying.

I'd much rather have someone chewing lots of gum rather than smoking cigarettes. I'll chew some after meals and stuff in the parks as well.

I do understand why Disney doesn't sell it, but I don't see why someone shouldn't be told BYOG.

I am addicted to gum and that kissably fresh breath feeling. I do bring my own gum to WDW, but I do dispose of it in a proper fashion. I am guiltly though, on rare, rare, rare occasions of spitting my gum in grass or something that I know won't get stepped on.

*awaits the gum spitter bashing*
