Nickelodeon Coming To Universal

Hearing rumblings that the reason the Holiday Inn owned Nickelodeon Suites Resort is being de-themed to Holiday Inn Orlando Water Park is because Nickelodeon did not renew its contract that is scheduled to expire in April.

According to "friends," Universal will purchase rights to the IP once that contract has officially expired and it will be used for, not only a new resort somewhere in the I-Drive corridor, but also for theme park attractions.

There is also talk there may be a new park in the works that will be a bit more kid-oriented and will contain IPs like Nintendo, Nickelodeon and Hello Kitty.

I have a bit of trouble believing this, but if it's true, I don't like it. Universal saw Nickelodeon's heyday, which was great and all, but while I obviously don't watch it anymore, I'm still under the impression Nickelodeon is just a sad shell of its former self. Basically just Spongebob and...uhhm... Spongebob. Who is already in the park. What is Universal supposed to do with Nickelodeon as an IP?

Yeah, sorry. Not buying it. Nickelodeon is a shell of its former self. I don't see why Universal would want anything to do with the IP, outside of Spongebob.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Depending on the price, Nickelodeon could be a good acquisition. Not for anything major, but just so they could use the characters more, open a Krusty Crab, and maybe one or two attractions.

Nick is still neck and neck with Disney Channel as the #1 kid's network.
Yeah, but sadly they both offer the same style of generic, obnoxious sitcoms in place of imaginative and innovative programming for kids. Almost nothing you can do anything interesting with at a theme park.

TMNT would be great and I have long fantasized on the idea of bringing them to Universal. I would swap out Transformers for the Turtles on any given day. As for the rest of what Nickelodeon has to offer... No thanks.

I still haven't forgiven Universal for closing the Jimmy Neutron ride and the subsequent meet and greets. Hopefully stuff like that will come back under this arrangement.

I may be in my twenties now, but I get the chance to meet all of my favourite characters from my youth, I'll leap at the opportunity. ;)

But we don't want rides based on Best Friends Whenever or KC Undercover now do we?
Of course, that doesn't mean a SpongeBob land would be bad, but most shows on those channels are not suited for theme parks.

So just your personal preference of not liking shows that are not targeted at you?

Breaking news: kids like different things than adults. Just because you don't like Nick's current line up doesn't mean their target audience (to whom they are #1) doesn't love it.

As for the actual rumor. The Nick hotel got purchased by a new owner about a year ago. Talking to staff there my understanding is that the new owner wanted to move away from the Nick branding. The decision wasn't based on Nick wanting to move back to Universal.

No idea how Nick feels about it but they license their properties to entertainment venues around the world so maybe they would be interested if Universal wanted to do something too?

I have no problem with any of those shows, but they aren't suited for theme parks. I don't want a ride based around The Middle or Modern Family either, but those are 2 of my favorite shows. I also said that a Spongebob land would be perfectly fine, because it's something that I think could make a good attraction. I mean, who doesn't want to eat at the Krusty Krab?

This exactly. @Rider- he's not saying that Nickelodeon doesn't have a popular or attractive line-up that is appealing to kids. He's just stating that those shows and line-up isn't conducive for a theme park experience or ride outside of TMNT and Spongebob. As for me- I think, if the price is right, they should absolutely partner with Nickelodeon and incorporate both of those marketable franchises into their parks.

Its not like Disney needs a High School Musical ride, even though it has a fan-base and was wildly popular. Live Action Sit-Coms as an attraction is begging it to be outdated within 10 years. Even Talk Shows are a bad idea for longevity... :D
Imagine if they made a Jimmy Kimmel attraction or something... :p

You wouldn't want to ride a version of Cranium Command set inside Phil's head?
