NHL lockout… your thoughts

I have been meaning to post this for a while, but I finally got around to it tonight! I think the owners need to give some up to the players… after all, they aren't the ones playing! I an also 13, so if my idea is stupid for the "grown up" world, please tell me. What is your stance on the lockout? Do you even care?

Blackhawk Jerseys might be the coolest jersey in all of sports. I root for them after the Rangers. Love the Cubs too. Hate the Chisox.

We are the same at heart. I believe my son has most Blackhawk Jerseys. I sent them to him in Florida so when the Blackhawks played in Tampa last year he road tripped with friends and proudly wore his jersey. Said they were not alone. I love my Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks. Done. Sox ewe. As sick as it sounds, I bored with the Bulls when they won so many times in the Jordan days. Kinda hate athletes that think the game is about them, it gets old.

Haven't missed a beat personally, there's football to keep track of! But seriously, I tend to side with the players in these kinds of situations. The owners aren't hurting for money and if you knew the kinds of things that they pulled from time to time...

It really is like choosing the lesser of two evils though. We're talking about a game here. The only thing that really concerns me is the people who have a business that is based around the NHL and are getting screwed without games to watch.

The players already gave up a lot the last time the owners initiated a lockout. The players are offering to give up more, but it's still not enough for the owners, because the players want existing contracts to be honored. So yes, I blame the owners.

Since the NHLPA has given into a few concesions and the NHL claims they won't back down on their demands because they say offered them their best offer, it's a game of who blinks first. However with Donald Fehr I don't see the players backing down.

Now as a Maple Leafs fan I was very disappointed when the NHL cancelled the Winter Classic because I was happy to see them being selected to play in it. Although at least they will be in the 2014 one, assuming the lockout ends by then.

If you want to see even more upset fans talking about the lockout go to www.hfboards.com It's the best message boards out there for any fans of the NHL.

I never have watched and NHL game. This lockout affects me in zero ways. However, as a fan of many other sports, I feel for the players, their families, the league, the venues, and most importantly the fans. Something of this nature is truly bad for the sport. I hate to see this happen in ANY sport regardless if I am a fan or follower of it.

The amount of jobs lost beyond the NHL is phenomenal. The haunts, bars and restaurants surrounding the arenas are dead now. The security officers and concession workers, liquor distributes and their staff, the trickle down effect is depressing.

I've been watching hockey since I was a little girl with my Dad. The good old days when the more fights the merrier.

That is flat out terrible. I hate to see that happen anywhere. What is the latest on financial talks? Why will these disagreements not find a common ground? They are allowing themselves to implode.

Talks are going nowhere. They even had a mediator come in and that did absolutely nothing. There is an AHL game at the Verizon Center in DC on Thursday and they are promoting the heck out of patronizing the businesses around the arena as they have been in desperation mode for customers since the NHL games aren't going on, so all of the locals are being hurt as well as fans.

The area of Chicago Stadium sits in isn't an area of Chicago that people visit beyond the sporting events.
The only saving grace is the Chicago Bulls also use the same stadium. So basically they have only lost half of their business. Not too many business can survive a 50% downturn.

Originally I thought both sides need to negotiate, now I'm annoyed as heck with the ownership. Hockey finally came back as a real Pro Sport here in Chicago after the weird ownership rules about not televising home games unless the House was sold out well in advance. They are loosing the fringe fans rapidly, the die heart fans they will likely keep but they didn't fill the stadium.

Thats kind of how I feel. While I love my Blackhawks, football has kept me occupied. The sad part of this whole thing is that once everything is settled, the damage will last for a much longer time. I love hockey but lets face it, its barely a blip on most peoples radar. A lockout like this could take years to recover from, just like last time. I know both sides right now think they will win this thing. Unfortunately though, what ever happens, both sides will lose in the end.
