Deal now official: ESPN and Turner Sports will be the broadcasters of NHL for the next seven years.

Like ESPN, Turner's Bleacher Report will have exclusive highlight rights to NHL material. Games will air on TNT and TBS depending on content. Winter Classic also included (that was not part of the ESPN deal).

HBO Max will also be a partner. Unknown what games they'll pick up or if they'll be simulcast from TNT/TBS, though.

Here's Turner's press release:

Interesting tidbit: much like CBS/Turner's deal for the NCAA basketball tourney, rights to Stanley Cup Finals will alternate between ESPN and Turner for the next seven years, with ESPN getting first dibs (after all, they got the bigger deal AND made it first).

All this talk of the rangers/isles, meanwhile the rangers/capitals game tonight might be the most must-watch game of the entire season.

And now the rangers have fired the gm and president. Dolan is entering the hockey realm. Wilson may have just single handedly turned the rangers into the knicks.

Reports going around that ESPN and Turner are now formally setting up their NHL teams.

Eddie Olczyk is planning to join Kenny Albert on Turner's NHL coverage as color commentator. He'll still be at NBC part-time covering horse racing.

Ray Ferraro is ESPN's top candidate for lead NHL analyst. No word yet on commentary team, though.

Well, all that NBC NHL talent has to go somewhere.
I can think of a few places. Albert is good. I like fordlund better but I think he's already signed to Seattle, so im good with it. Bring boucher. Probably a couple others I'm missing. Pierre, Eddie, milbury can all stay at nbc.

An Endeavor rep says ESPN hasn't bowed out yet, but in all fairness, the Great One deserves to be on Turner. Given how Turner doesn't have a hockey department (since they're in a city that twice bailed on NHL), they need Gretzky more than ESPN does.

Not sure how he is as a reporter, but he was a great human, and a great player, so glad to see him getting the chance. Just wish he would have gotten that cup in Tampa (stupid refs and boston).
