Nextel to sponsor Spaceship Earth?

I hope that Nextel does sponsor SSE but there are still other companies out there that would fit the bill also such as Cisco, BayNetworks, Avia, and Lucent. These are the backbone companies of communication now and it would be nice to educate people on how communication actually works on the phone networks and the internet. Just a thought.

I always thought Lucent (Bell Labs) was the perfect sponsor for this attraction, but as they remain in poor financial shape, I do not see that this would happen.

From my experiences, Nextel is one of the worst providers. For all the people I know who use Nextel, I've only got about a 20% success rate when trying to reach them. A new sponser would be good for SSE, but I dont' want a company that may have financial problems in the future.

I have one because my employer provides it. I would not have one otherwise. Many companies are turned onto Nextel because the direct-connect feature, which is very nice. The network Nextel uses is not very great, I end up getting a lot of dropped calls.

After Hurricane Charley came through, I could not get a consistant signal for DAYS, as so many of the relief workers are on Nextel, the system was maxed.

Alot of rumors again I see. Nextel is no where around there and everyone I know always has problems with that service on property.
If they were going to be the next sponser they better get some towers there.

Maybe you can see the towers because they are disguised.

They’re popping up everywhere and
are visible almost nowhere.
Look closely at on-property trees and
architectural details, and you just may
catch a glimpse of new Nextel antennae
and equipment designed to boost the efficiency
of private and company communications
across the Walt Disney World
Resort.
Walt Disney World engineers, Walt
Disney Imagineers and contract workers
are working as a team to install this
equipment and infrastructure at 11 sites
and are scheduled to complete the project
in December.
In true Disney style, crews are
theming or hiding the antennae and
equipment where possible. Workers are
building two antennae that will look like
artificial trees for Disney’s Animal
Kingdom and Disney’s Grand Floridian
Resort & Spa, and the cupola (a roofline
architectural detail) at The American
Adventure hides one of the Epcot
antennae.

“Nextel also will provide extended
coverage and a large capacity, so any Cast
Member or Guest who has Nextel devices
for their private use will get better coverage,”

I have At&T Wireless as my provider( :zipit: ) so obviously they aren't going to sponser this. :hammer: . But personally I don't care who sponsers it, just GET ONE!

For the next year and a half nextel will possibly be having problems with the cell sites due to fact of how many they are putting up. My dad does a lot with Motorola so he knows what hes talking about. He has told me that this will happen. When nextel first came out they had these similar problems and they have passed.

When I was down there in april of 2003, i had altell and i had a hard time getting a signal all through the park. In nov 2003 i brought my nextel instead. the only place i had a hard time with a signal was inside parts of American Adventure. my brother in law also brought his nextel and sometimes he was only 2 feet away but had a signal.

i got nextel because the police department i work for went to it so everyone went to it. initally we had a problem with dropped calls so part of the contract was to install mini antennas through out the buiding. if they are willing to do that fior a pd contract...i can only imagine what they are doing for a big time client like disney.

quick word on nextel use at disney...as a CM i know that Nextel is in full use at Epcot and on it way to all the other parks. All bugs have been worked out of the Nextel as they have been testing them for the past two years. They have large Nextel Antenas all across property and the have repeaters everywhere. Even completely throughout the rides so operators and maintence can use them in the rides.

just wanted to set some things straight

It's funny because I was just at Epcot on Saturday and was talking to my wife about the "Global Neighborhood" being closed up because of AT&T pulling its sponsorship and who other sponsors could be. I mentioned that there had been a rumor of Microsoft sponsoring SSE, but felt that would lead to the "New Global Assimilation Chambers" being installed in the post-show area and that just wouldn't be good. :animwink:
