New Villains Attraction Rumor?

What I asked for is where all this princess stuff is? You're answer did not include a single ride or attraction. Just marketing campaigns and souvnirs. That's really what you're upset about? :brick:

First of all, the question I responded to was "I really don't understand where people get this (crazy) idea that there is too much princess stuff in the parks." And I explained to you that they get this idea from the oversaturation in marketing.

Second, I wouldn't describe it as upset as much as I would annoyed. The word "upset" connotates anger. And yes, single-focus marketing campaigns and reduced quality and variety of merchandise annoy me.

If you let the TV commercials and trinkets (that you don't have to buy) ruin your park experience, I think you're something of an outlier.

In Orlando? Probably. In Anaheim? Doubtful. On this forum?

Fair enough. I get that.

I suppose I was being a little disigenuous with the question. Because the point I was trying to make was that when you get down to it, there's not a lot of attractions in the parks that actually deal with the princesses. It's all marketing and trinkets.

It has created an illusion that the parks have been overrun by princesses, when in fact, they haven't. That's really the point I was trying to make. And I think that point stands.

If you prefer "annoyed" to "upset", fine.

Personally, I figure Disney (or any other company) can make money any (legal/moral) way they want to to and I don't have a problem with it. I always look at it as defraying my costs. I don't care for Duffy. But if Disney can make a few bucks off him, more power to them.

Anyway, I'll try to circle back to the topic at hand. I'm sure a lot of folks here on the forums would go nuts for just about anything that increased the presence of villains in the parks. But I'm not holding my breath. The villains have a very limited appeal and actually cause a lot of guest complaints outside of Halloween.

Maybe you would feel differently if you had sons?

I have a son and I don't feel differently! Outside of the merch and marketing (and I would even argue the marketing) there is not much Princess "stuff" in the parks. And most of what is there you have to pay extra for (over and above your ticket).

And concerning the merch... it's more than just Princess stuff everywhere, it's Cars, Toy Story, etc. Disney loves to put their franchises on the shelves. But the merch is another topic all together. I would be the first to welcome some varied merch and shops (and so would my kids for that matter).

Honestly, you only encounter a lot of princess merch if you seek it out. What bothers me is the ridiculous pushing of Vinylmation in every post-ride gift shop, in most other shops, and an entire store in DTD.

As far as the appealing to boys vs. girls goes, I don't see a problem. If boys were as desperate as girls to have something to dress up as, the Pirates League makeover would have boomed just as the BBB has. None of the rides are geared specifically towards girls, and any that seem more feminine are balanced out by attractions like Buzz Lightyear, the Speedway, and POTC. No attractions are just so inherently masculine or feminine that they aren't enjoyable to everyone, so the whole argument seems rather silly to me.

As far as a villains attraction, does anyone else think that this has also partially been spurred by the hope that if the Snow White coaster that languished in imagineering for so long is becoming a reality, perhaps the villain land could be too? I wouldn't at all mind a bigger presence of villains in the parks because it's fun and makes things a little more three-dimensional.

I got hooked on vinyls on my trip, they're not THAT bad once you get used to them.
