New Tomorrowland @ Disneyland? Is this the year it finally gets announced? Yes and that’s still just OK

Being in Walt's Tomorrowland ,it is more about the message and hope. "You can see colorful murals celebrating the joyous spirit of children everywhere a reminder that tomorrow will be built by our youth"

It is not the TL murals, but the one found at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. Im assuming the process and info are the same

Haven't been following the thread too much so sorry if this has already been talked about. Disneyland is getting electric cars for autopia, tomorrowland is getting a complete rebuild sometime after. Seems likely that they wouldn't just buy a whole fleet of electric vehicles and then never use them 3-4 years down the line when tomorrowland closes. I guess in theory autopia could stick around, but with the talk of new attractions and spaces the most likely thing is autopia closes and they have way more land to use. My guess is they ship the electric cars over to disney world and the speedway gets them afterwards.

I’m hoping for a restoration of Tomorrowland more than anything truly “new” - that’s what the artwork hints at but it’s only a hint

Autopia and nemo take up a huge amount of space, in a space constrained park. Hard to get over that and the "new open spaces" line. Maybe i'm reading into it too much...

"New open spaces" could be elsewhere. I'm thinking like the old Motor Boat route,Autopia can get shortened, cutback there. (not the dock & pond.) The Cosmic Wave/ Ball/Park can go. Turn the TL theater into an open-air theater like the Space Stage. Remove Astro Orbitor, (relocate a new spinner on a new tower), would open up the entrance. Or maybe "spaces" are location that are currently closed or are not used as often. Like open all of the Carousel Theater, TL theater, Starcade, Rocket Jets/ Peoplemover tower, Space Place.

Yes, if it were just one ride taking up all that space, but it's two rides and long ones at that so think of it as each only taking up half the footprint and it doesn't seem so bad.

They take up as much space as all of Toontown including Runaway Railway!

But then there would be the matter of the monorail beam being in the way. Cost alone would make moving that a no go.

I just hope we don't see them bring back the dated 60's TL with the murals and old aesthetic. If all of this is to turn TL back into something that felt dated when I was a kid, then we are in trouble.

Well, to a point.
I agree Mary Blair’s murals were not futuristic, even for the 60’s.
But gosh would I love to have pieces of Adventure Thru Inner Space back.
They may not have been quintessentially futuristic but they did a better job of establishing a sense of time and place than the self referential space murals they have going on now.

Mary Blair's Tomorrowland murals were not intended to depict the future, but rather inspire a sense of hope and optimism for the future.
If the theme of the reimagined land is "Yesterday's Tomorrow Today", I'd argue that they fit perfectly

I'd love a new take on the same concept, 100%. The idea of exploring not just space but also delving deeper into understanding our world on a molecular level. But they shouldn't just try and rebuild the same-looking/feeling attraction as the previous version. I love a Peoplemover-style attraction, but hopefully its not just the 67 Peoplemover back again.
As badly as TL 98 has been remembered, we have to also remember the reason we got TL 98...because TL felt incredibly dated and bland in the 80's. Going back to the vintage bland isn't a TL I hope we get saddled with for 40 years.

Sure, if you want the land to be set in the 70's and feeling like a dated vintage land from the opening. But now sure TL should feel dated and dusty off the bat.
I'll give you that they didn't feel as generic as the 90's school folder art style we have currently. I'd rather see interested facades and visual storytelling than two giant flat murals. Mary Blair's murals felt like the kind of thing I see at big airports when traveling. The new ones are very regional theme-park-y. I just want a TL that feels as charming as the other lands and not like a terminal or convention center.

Personally I hope both of those buildings are knocked down to make way for something totally new, so I guess my opinion about the murals is irrelevant anyway.
But I do think "Yesterday's Tomorrow Today" will be vintage retro-futurism inspired. I'm with you that I don't want just a recreation of Tomorrowland 67. Part of their challenge will be how to create a retro futuristic land that doesn't feel dated
