Matt left Starwood last year, I have no idea where he has ended up

Matt has not taken a new position anywhere yet, besides the boards he is currently on. Also, from my inside source he might not be taking another corporate level job again and might pursue other interests.

The only Disney job Matt would return for would be Jay's ... it was widely known that he coveted it while at TWDC and it's why he was run out of the company.

I believe he'd do a great job at it ... the proof is in the jobs he did at DCL and DL, putting aside all the fanboi drool.

But it ain't happening.

Don't be so sure about him wanting that job originally. He also probably would not come back for it.

Could it be they created this for him so they have someone to run the 40th????????????????

Nah... That's way to much advanced time to plan. He specializes in last minute celebrations requiring only 3 months of preparation as a response to guest letdown on Disney's lack of interest in recognizing their own milestones.

If he's going to handle the 40th I'm pretty sure he'll be notified in about 18 months.

Well, maybe since people saw how the 25th anniversary of Epcot was handled, they decided to do something about it. They moved Jimmy-boy into the position after seeing how well he handled Epcot's celebration thinking, "if he could do this in such a short time, imagine the grand party he can put together in 2 years!!!" Or am I giving management too much credit? LoL..

It is certainly possible. Right now, these celebrations and marketing tactics for park anniversaries continue to bring in an additional income that the book keepers cannot ignore. I certainly wouldn't rule out the possibility of Jim's involvement in a project such as this.

I'm flattered! :D Just give me an additional 4-6 years to get my degree, and possibly PhD; then I'll be ready to join the gang.

 I think your on to something! It's only 2 years away you know, and he knew what to do for Epcot's 25th.

No ... he knew what should be done.

It was actually fans (like Adam's org) that shamed Disney into acknowledging the event ... for one whole day, instead of what should have been a year celebration.

There's been no word from the inside that Disney has any plans of celebrating WDW's 40th anymore than it did EPCOT's.

Hell, there's one school of thought that says they'd rather placate 'fans' by allowing them to have their own small events that last a day, than actually do a major celebration that involves planning everything from new attractions and entertainment to new merchandise and shopping bags and music and logos etc ...

I really hope that WDW has a big 40th bash (like DL did) and actually gives folks reason to come/celebrate.

But I'll believe it when I see it.

He'd make a great consultant, unlike the ones that currently get paid huge sums to destroy the Disney magic.

I am almost 100% sure Matt wanted the job. That would have been the next logical move up the ladder really. Unless they were going to put him in Al Weiss' job, which I don't think would have happened.

I know Jay felt he was pushing for his job, which is why he tried to make life miserable for Matt.

As to him coming back now ... well, I have no idea. Running Disney's P&R is a very impressive job to have, even in bad times. I think it's moot though because JR ain't going anywhere soon.

Let's just say I have a big hunch he wasn't looking for the job, even if it was the logical next step for him. I can't really say more than that...

Considering the 40th is in 2011, there is plenty of time to get things in order... Maybe Gothmickey is on to something... Hopefully there is some sort of celebration, even if it is a 1 day event and not 18 months... And think about something... Do you think Disney wants to be shown up by fans organizing a celebration again??? I think not...

They aren't the only ones who will be planning something for the 40th. I just happen to have a hunch... :animwink:
