New theme park or updating the current ones?

As a kid I always wanted to hear news of a new Disney theme park in the works (especially after they purchased Marvel) , but as time has gone on we have all seen the struggles of Epcot and even Hollywood Studios feeling a little dated. Would you like to see a new theme park in the future or just new attractions and lands in the current parks? Not to say that a new park will happen but the idea of something completely new is nice as well. Thoughts?

They have "space" to expand theme park wise. However, they are putting a lot into expanding DVC rooms but that is more at already established resorts.

Disney needs to fix what they have. MK is world class; new Fantasyland is nothing to write home about but its good enough. AK is fine where it is - regardless if Avatar comes or not. The addition of the nighttime entertainment will keep crowds through the day. Epcot while in dire need I would not consider priority. WS is excellent and makes up for the lack in FW. HS on the other hand is tragic. It needs some love ASAP - above any park it really is a half day park.

I agree with the previous posts, definitely refurb and update the current parks. Just look at what Cars Land did for DL/DCA. 4 parks seems to be more than TDO can handle right now- most people seem to agree that the late 90's-early 00's was rock bottom for WDW and that coincides with the opening of AK. I'm not saying AK was solely responsible for fall in quality, but it sure didn't help.

WDW needs a new theme park like the Disney executives need bigger bonus's. They are having trouble, legitimate trouble running the 4 that they have now. I'm not talking about intentional neglect, but neglect brought about by to much to do with to little time to do it.

That doesn't mean that they haven't made some intentional mistakes, like empty show buildings with nothing to replace them, but, the bulk of the problem is what Walt considered a blessing. Size! It would be nice if the idea that all they have to do is throw more people at it, but, that has never proven to be worthwhile. You've heard the phase, Too many cooks spoil the stew, well, that applies here. It is wasteful and most often non-productive.

IMO I think Animal Kingdom's name should Change to Disney Adventure Kingdom..With Pandora coming and not reflecting on Animals it seems like they are trying to make it more of an Adventure..That way you can also do a really decent Indy ride and for everyone who has mentioned it a Mystic Manor based attraction..

I'd rather have one anomaly than Disney just give up and water down the most concise park at Walt Disney World.

Absolutely they should focus on the four parks at hand before ever building a 5th. Considering the way WDW has grown to be run, I'm not sure it could even handle a full fledged 5th gate. I think from here on out, any new "gates" will not be traditional theme park formats.

MK has mostly been addressed, and DAK will eventually have more, but Epcot and DHS need so much help. Build up and fix up each park and make it a full day experience.

One thing Disney needs is more thrill rides. Imagine an entire Villain's park with the newest technology for large scale thrill rides. Not to mention doing Mickey's SCARY Halloween Party, Nightmare Before Christmas or other more mature themes. Frozen land would best fit in Fantasyland and continue to draw families there.

I posted this in another thread not too long ago. I was underwhelmed by the response. I think it would be a great way to preserve the drama of the classic movies as well as cater to an older crowd. I know, I know... Disney is not about thrill rides, but why couldn't they be? It would be very expensive, but I'd rather see that than Avatar land.

Because you're trying to force something that doesn't naturally flow.

I am glad to see everyone is on the same boat. Avatar and a possible Star Wars land would be great additions and a big help to the problem. I guess when I was a kid and had these hopes for a new park all the Disney parks where a bit more in shape then they are now. Then came AK and it was a little disappointing to me but it is getting better. Maybe one day my dream for a Marvel park will be realized but I agree, the priority is with the 4 parks that already exist. I would even take an Iron Man attraction in Epcot and maybe something Avengers like in Hollywood studios. Hope this was not a silly question and thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I'm going to step away from the group, just a bit. Obviously, I think that all of the parks should be kept to high standards. I also believe that a few more attractions in the non-MK parks would be a good idea. However, beyond that I would selfishly love an additional park.

I always thought Animal Kingdom was Disney's rushed version of Islands of Adventure...

Same with Hollywood studios being a rushed version of Universal Studios. Although AK isn't bad at all, I agree with you that it does seem they're making it more of an adventure theme park now.

Too many parks have the name "Adventure" in them. "Animal Kingdom" still makes sense as long as the attractions continue to fit the theme of the park: animals - existing, extinct, or imagined, and conservation. The lands of DAK are there to paint a realistic picture of the locations those animals can be found.

DAK may have been rushed, but it is nothing like Islands of Adventure. IOA is more like Universal's version of a Magic Kingdom park - themed lands that aren't thematically connected. DAK has a unified theme.
