Neither are a lot of the folks people use at home who are charging more for private sessions. They’re independent entities not attached to any photography company, some of whom are doing it as a side gig. Still $300-$500 a session.

Really? Are the photopass photographers just given a camera without any photographic instruction? What equipment are they lacking?
A camera?! Those are just props they’re carrying.
That question tells me you don't really know the difference between an amateur photographer. Photopass "photographers" are given cameras with settings dialed in and they aren't allowed to deviate. They don't have to know anything about deciding which settings will maximize which lighting conditions or create certain effects.
Oh definitely. And some who charge $1K aren't actual photographers either. Even nice equipment won't produce great effects unless you know how to use it properly.

Well, that was rude. You stated they were not professional photographers but provided no explanation for why. I thought clarification on what the term meant and what these individuals lacked was appropriate.
This is a group of hand selected cast members. Most are photographers outside of Disney.
There are indeed Disney Park photographers who have advanced skills and experience to handle these sessions. As is shown in this Disney commercial from years back. We have firsthand examples of his work from this commercial.
Does anyone know if this is the case or are they using the same equipment as photopass castmenbers?

It has proper gear, lighting, specially trained photographers for these sessions, and an assistant.

It's not the same gear. It's brand new Sony cameras, godox lighting, cast trained to use them.
