New restaurant area @ Fort Wilderness

Interesting. I've always wished that the campground had a quick service restaurant. I always figured a lot of people cooked in their campers so there wouldn't be a huge demand for it, but when we're at Disney we're all about the parks and never want to spend time making our own meals. I'd love to be able to grab some Mickey waffles before catching the boat to the Magic Kingdom in the morning.

They do have a quick service restaurant that's take out and open for all meals. They also do have Mickey Waffles on the menu in the morning too. The QS location is called P&J's Southern Take out.
Also there is the Meadow Snack bar at the pool that has salads, sandwiches, etc. ;)

I think I found it, but looks like the application referenced by the article is withdrawn.

What. On. Earth. We've stayed there dozens of times and I've never heard of such a thing. My parents are going to kick themselves for never knowing about the carryout chicken dinner on the menu. It doesn't appear to be on any of the campground maps that Google Images turned up and it took me a long time to figure out where it even was. I do still like the idea of a regular QSR place with a seating area and a full menu though.

It only became known as P&Js within the last year (named after some long-serving Cast Members I think), before that it was just the take-out window at Trails End and therefore wasn't separately referenced as it was just a window as part of Trails End. Yeah a full seating area would be nice and some added items. ;)

Yep it didn't used to have a dedicated name until recently but was always there as far as I remember. People I guess never realized it was there so they maybe felt they needed to give it another name on its own. ;)

I am not sure how I missed this one. Below is the plan from the permit. The permit was originally submitted on 5/3 and the SFWMD requested further information on 5/27. The permit was withdrawn by Disney on 7/27. I presume they are re-working the plan to address the SFWMD's concerns and will eventually re-submit it.

You "missed it" because that permit is from 2011, and was part of a Fort Wilderness DVC near where River Country was... I believe there's an old thread on here somewhere about it...

The reason it showed back up in permit searches is because new documents were recently added to it (the withdrawal documents). If the author of the BizJournal article had bothered to check dates or do just a simple Google search for the project number, they could have avoided reporting on an old/abandoned project...

EDIT: Here's a thread from 2014 with a nice rendering/video from a construction company showing off the planned construction timeline. The "new dining area" (BBQ Pavilion) even makes a small cameo at beginning:

Why would that worry you? In a site full of petty complaints, DVC is one of the biggest ones. How will the presence of DVC at Fort Wilderness impact your experience in any way whatsoever?

DVC at Ft. Wilderness would bring the following to Ft. Wilderness: Overcrowding. Destruction of natural resources. Increase in automobile traffic in a location that was deliberately (and brilliantly) designed to minimize the presence of the automobile. Possible destruction of classic structures (Pioneer Hall). Elimination of experiences unique to Ft. Wilderness (relocation of the stables, elimination of the petting zoo, possible elimination of the nature/biking/jogging trail between FW and the WL). Strain on existing infrastructure.

DVC has wrought so much overdevelopment and unnecessary destruction to the WDW landscape in recent years that it already impacts our experience in many ways whatsoever.

None of that is unique to DVC. What you seem to be objecting to is expansion in general. The same "problems" you identified would be present if they expanded with non-DVC cabins or additional campsites.
