A new permit filed for Tangaroa Terrace at the Polynesian Village Resort raises the possibility the building could return to guest use. The Notice of Commencement, with KHS&S as contractor, runs until 12/31/27 - an unusually long window that suggests more than routine maintenance.

I'm not getting excited b/c maybe they are just demoing this or something, but I would love throwback ideas like an arcade....They could also consider some kind of dinner show to replace the Luau, like Moana. Anything Moana here, like a character breakfast (at the home of Tonga toast) would be popular.

The ultimate throwback would be to bring back the old school wicker look and chairs. Another cool idea might be a more classy/relaxing, but causal Hawaiian dinner themed spot, darkly lit with a ukulele player.

Two of those ideas seem to duplicate Ohana with a Character breakfast and Hawaiian dinner.

I think a Luau replacement type show might prove to be popular though.

agree - the double character dining could be a blocker, although Grand Californian does it so not totally unheard of. I was just trying to work in Moana which I think would be a popular fit there.

The see the vibe of a ukulele relaxing cafe dinner with potentially some outdoor exposure to the tiki torches, etc so different vs hectic Ohana that it might be interesting. Kind of that Luau vibe without the show.

What about moving Trader Sam's over here for a larger space in the old Tangaroa Terrace space and expanding Captain Cook's into the current Sam's location?
While it would be a shame to mess with such success the coolness of the current location - I could see the motivation here.

Don't get your hopes up. Tangaroa was recently refurbished into current interior layout where all space is currently used with offices, warehouse, and kitchen.
