Those weren't really the Beach Boys but I digress.
It's really cool he's in Kokomo video...and even cooler the video is in front of then-brand-new (pre-DVC) Grand Floridian.... and (as viewer of original Full House run and its re-runs more times than I'm proud to admit)...John Stamos arguably did a great deal thru his show/character to help keep the Beach Boys as popular as they are.

NB: I learned over the weekend that Paul McCartney's favorite song (ever) is "God Only Knows." Outstanding choice.
NB#2: Great articles on Beach Boys (the one's I've read so far) @HMF

I am happy to know that people are reading my non-disney articles and enjoying them. Also. Kokomo was released when there was still someone with the last name Wilson in the band, unlike the oldies act that is touring now. Anyway, back on topic.

I wanted to say the same thing. Without the Wilson brothers (Brian most especially), they're not really the Beach Boys, even though Mike Love does have the rights to the name.

It'd be a bit like Ringo Starr touring as the Beatles, which would be fine if he had the rights to the name to do so, but no one should really think they're seeing the Beatles.

Even if it were Paul , Ringo and a few sidemen, I am still sure many people would consider it false advertising. I am actually legitimately surprised The Who get away with it.

Agreed -- I almost used Paul instead of Ringo, but Paul had a much larger impact on the Beatles' output/quality than Mike Love and Bruce Johnston did for the Beach Boys.

But they're far from the only group touring under a famous name that is not actually that group. The Four Tops still tour as The Four Tops despite having zero original members, as just one random example.

Yeah, and to be frank, let's just say by a few minutes in, I was looking forward to when John Stamos was singing lead on some of the songs.

I was not aware of that.

I was not aware of that.

It seems to be a whole industry for 1950s and 1960s groups, sometimes with one or two original members (probably not for any of the 50s groups at this point). I think most of them are smaller groups that had one big hit or a handful of smaller hit, though (i.e. not remotely as famous as/on the level of the Beach Boys).

The Temptations still tour too, although they do have one original member remaining.

most of these groups were in peak popularity 60+ years ago. Frankie Valli still going, but apparently this is the "final tour." I'm happy I got to see him two years ago as I'm good friends with one of The Four Season's songwriters.

Strange, considering there are tribute bands to artists and groups with still living members.

When "Flower and Garden" started the "Flower Power" series, it was mostly '60's groups with at least one surviving member. Last one I saw was Fifth Dimension (severe thunderstorm forced them to stop the show before "Aquarius."). The one I enjoyed most was Herman's Hermits...they were sharp and they were all still there (this was 20+years ago), and they were the very last holdout before now where the lineups seem to be all 1990s and beyond.

"Tempus Fugit" (in Eeyore's voice)

The issue that I am having is most of the music I listen to was made by people who will likely all be dead before this decade ends.

I feel like I'm in the same boat. There will likely be some exceptions. Dion's still going very, very strong, just not touring. He just redid "Abraham, Martin, & John."

Frankie Valli now is like a marionette…I don’t know how there he really is, or even how much of his voice is coming out of him.

I can HAPPILY explain this one, as my Four Seasons songwriter friend has been Frankie Valli's BEST friend for about 70 years. Verrrry simple....the concerts give Frankie meaning and purpose in his life...it keeps him alive. Based on my professional experiences, I agree 100% with Frankie and my friend, and I wish Frankie many happy years (but realize either way not likely that many more years since he's already 91...I hope I look half as good at 91!).

The last time I saw Brian Wilson in concert back in 2022 felt really sad because I knew he was at the end of his touring rope so to speak.
