Went to the World's Fair in '64 and we stayed at the Waldorf. I pestered my parents to use the subway to get to the fair because I liked riding and thought it was fun. They did once or twice I think but what innocent eyes I must have had to think it was OK and not see it for what it was.
We had to drive... such fun :(
At least I got to go many times

But thats my exact point. It shouldn't be. Its transportation. Same with the monorail. They aren't meant to be an attraction, so stop treating them like they are.
So Test Track isn't an attraction because it's just a ride in a car?

Anticipating the argument: "But it doesn't take you anywhere, so, it's not transportation."....

So what about MK Railroad? You can use that to get to other parts of the MK. So... a ride or transportation?

Hogwart's Express takes one to a new location: ride or transportation?

What about the train within DAK?

I am so confused.

Am I supposed to tell my kids to stop enjoying the ride? That they’re wrong to like something?

I thought telling people they were wrong for liking something was only for the Mickey and Minnies runaway railway thread

Sadly telling people they’re wrong to like something is now commonplace in almost any thread. Maybe having fun is not trendy any more? 🙅‍♀️

This is an interesting point. I initially thought the determinant should be whether it is meant purely as a conveyance system (eg TTC to MK) or for amusement (looking at scenery). DL RR is - both?

Then I thought whether you could only ride if inside a park - but I think that shortchanges the amusement aspects of Skyliner and the Monorail.

I am a grown middle aged man and have:
Ridden the gondolas round trip - just for fun.
Have requested a clear gondola.

I can treat them how I choose.

Are you also the guy on an airplane that takes the window seat and then sleeps leaning up against the closed blind?

I feel completely certain that the Skyliner was always meant to be both transportation and a special mini-attraction...They are supposed to be fun... The view and flying above the ground are great. Just like the monorail... Yes it is transportation, but it is also a bit of an attraction.
If they wanted it to be viewed as purely transportation they would stick to the terrible bus system...
Monorail would have been the best option... More reliable, Faster and more efficient operationally. The Skyliner was cheaper on the front end... but closes every time there is a thunderstorm which is a huge problem in Florida.

It is absolutely ridiculous to make the statement that the monorail and a skyliner are not attractions. They are not basic forms of public transportation simply put in place to transport people. This is not the moving walkway at the airport. You don't see that in commercial saying come visit the airport and additionally airports are not theme park destination.

You do see the Walt Disney World's monorail system specifically put into its commercials and publicity shots over and over and over again. Because it's an attraction!

If you want to try to treat it as some utilitarian public transportation system you go right ahead and do so. But it's ridiculous to set the expectation that everybody else do the same.

You are clearly in the minority here and just pushing buttons to be controversial. The basics of being a troll.

now if we are taking busses...then yeah, that is just a form of transportation no one cares about them...
You’d think, but my friend’s kids LOVE riding the busses… 🤣

They will ride busses to just random resorts sometimes just because they love riding the busses so much! And there is the added bonus of being able to walk around the resorts you bus to, but they mostly just like the bus ride…

They also like the tram, but to a lesser degree than the busses…

Agreed! Its not a complete WDW visit without a monorail & skylinner trip.

The real question I have is when will they expand the skyliner service across the property? With resorts like Port Orleans having entire buildings vacant per @lentesta, it just makes too much ”cents” to add an extension here.

It had to help Pop/AoA and Caribbean Beach immensely.

Is it a question of when and not if IMO.

Skyliner was bankrolled by the extra money Disney could get by raising the room rates of Pop, AoA, and CBR as "Skyliner resorts" and so that Riviera could be considered a 'deluxe.'

Other routes dreamed up by guests are imagined for their benefit, not for Disney's ROI. And if it turns out that the Skyliner hasn't been profitable... no more gondolas, ever!!

While Disney has considered other Skyliner routes according to insiders, they certainly ain't moving on them. Dedicated lanes for buses or light rail is more likely.
